Firstly I would like to say a big thank you to all the staff that helped with my care in the Emergency Room and Stacy J Floor 9 you are a phenomenal guy . Now comes the sad part After being transferred from ER to floor 9 things changed, I was diagnosed as requiring a pacemaker which came as a real shock due to only feeling bad Friday morning and having chest pains and hard to breathe, By Saturday afternoon I was informed i would have surgery Tuesday to have the pacemaker put in Dr Minton informed me the specialist electrician for the procedure was a Dr Norris. On Tuesday I went for surgery. When I woke up I could hear voices but I could not speak or move. I was in extreme pain on my right side. I heard the staff saying he clearly has a problem. He is tearing up and groaning. All I could do was lay there and hope but no one helped. My friend who was with me was informed at 5.30 all had gone well and I would be returned to my room shortly. She waited and I finally arrived at 8.40pm she had been asking where I was and was not getting any information, all she had heard was there was a problem waking me up. So she started to think I had not come round. I finally managed to tell the nurse i was in a lot of pain, she gave me medication but it did not help, throughout the night i repeated to the nurse i need someone to check me and the meds were not helping, The next morning the nurse came in and he noticed immediately that I was in trouble, he then found that no medication had been getting into me as the IV line was no longer in my vein all the fentanyl was in my flesh! . He addressed this issue immediately. Norris showed up and said "Ah I finally found you" what were you muttering about last night about your side? I then informed him that he left me in pain for over 13 hours and he threw me under the bus as he was well aware I had something wrong yet he did not inform anyone to check on me and contact him and let him know, I then had the pleasure of him saying one of the leads needs to be relocated, i was taking back to have this done fully AWAKE and with no medication It was a barbaric experience. Throughout the procedure i felt everything he was putting in my chest and i was petrified that any small move from me could have meant death as he was right there working on my heart i did groan a few times and he would loudly say what are you groaning about, maybe he should have this procedure done twice within 24 hours with no sleep or pain relief He may, just may have an inkling of why i groaned . I suffer from PTSD. This has not helped me at all. My PTSD stemmed from a previous incident in a hospital some years ago. I made myself very clear after the procedure that i found it unacceptable and barbaric and i will be seeking legal advice. I was discharged the next day and a few days later I called to say I am not well I am worse now than before the implant ,this all fell on deaf ears they were not interested, I called the advocate ( total waste of time) Norris was not interested < i stuck it out a few more days still not feeling any better i called several times again. I went to my follow up and Norris was in the room a matter of seconds he clearly was not interested in anything, I returned home 150 miles north and everyday feeling worse I was sent to my local hospital and they sent a tech to check the pacemaker He thinks I am footing that bill erm no its mailed to Baptist, Pacemaker turned down from 50 percent to 3 percent Hello alarm bells going off here 50 down to 3 and just what is this in me for exactly? I still had issues and returned to ER at Baptist. I was seen and Norris and Minton refused treatment so I was told by the ER to seek medical attention within 2 days! HUH what exactly am I doing right now!. I spent the rest of that day and the following day making calls and begging for help, I finally got a call on Wednesday. I told them the whole situation. Dr Norris did a great job on my husbands pacemaker. He always had a smile when he greeted you. We were strangers to him but not treated as one.
