Dr. Mahmoud Gamal Nagib

After years of pain and 2 surgeries at other places, I was referred to Dr Nagib at Abbott to get looked at. I've been to a number of spine clinics/hospitals. Meeting with his P.A. Eric and having him review everything with me was so awesome and considerate I was blown away with just how down to earth everyone on his team was. We basically weighed the pros and cons together, made me feel like I was on their team. I've never experienced that anywhere else and I want to share that here. Truely a unique experience. Dr Nagib is so kind hearted and nice. I will be recommending him and this place to anyone. Just had a multi level fusion and every single person at abbott was amazing. Dr Nagib is fantastic. Everyone on his team is fantastic. I have nothing bad to say and am so happy that I chose to have my 3rd surgery with him. He fixed it all and I am forever grateful for his kindness and compassion he showed me. Thank you for everything you do, you are truely a wonderful human being.

This guy needs to retire. He was trained in the 70's and has not kept up with state of the art modalities and my outcomes suffered from it. He performed a routine lumbar discectomy/laminotomy in 2015 on me using an open approach because I "was not a candidate for minimally invasive approaches." I was left with permanent neuro deficit which has negatively affected my quality of life greatly. He knew it within hours of recovery and down played it. I have since consulted with other surgeons who have more experience with microscopic/endoscopic approaches who would have treated using such approaches. After many years of pain and transient radiculopathy I am scheduled for a redo procedure to clean up this mess Nagib created. Again, this guy needs to retire.

Many years ago doctor Mahmoud M Nagib performed surgery on me I have a rare disease that causes tumors to form on nerves in back and brain . He bascically played god on me he took out 15 tumors at once and I later had brain surgery to remove another one and he had terrible bed side manner ! He always came in at 1 or 2 in morning to avoid talking he was a man of very few words and never really asked how we felt about things! The last straw was when he performed a surgery to remove a tumor by the neck he told me he had removed all of it but weeks later because of pain we went to Mayo and they took mri and they said he basically opened me up found out it was to difficult and lied!! 3 surgeries later to correct his error I now have nerve damage in my right arm! I would not recommend him to anyone and if you have a rare disease go directly to Mayo or a specialist!! Dr. Nagib performed surgery removing a tumor(lipoma) on our at the time 10 year old son. Said he would be great after and as a great young athlete could no longer run the same again. When he removed his tumor he severed his nerves which caused paralysis in his whole right leg and foot. Which then caused him to have a drop foot which then we had to reconstruct his foot to learn how to walk and run again. Not only was this A long road but our son would never be the same again for the rest of his life. His bedside manners were terrible and was very rude to myself, must have issues with women! Dr Nagib is the best Neuro Surgeon. Very good at what he does & cares! He removed 3 brain tumors in 10 years for my child & brain tumor on my moms neck/ spinal cord this year too! Yes, there’s post surgery after affects but I would choose Dr Nagib instantly!

I had a c6-7 spinal fusion in June 2020. Dr Nagib and his staff were amazing. Recovery has had its ups and downs, but his staff has been very responsive to help support my comfort through recovery. Dr Nagib may be a man of few words but he answered my questions and fixed my issues. I look forward to a normal active life once completely healed. When others couldn’t figure out why I was in pain, Dr Nagib found my spinal cord tumor and removed it. He and his team always treated me kindly and professionally. Dr Nagib also saved our daughter’s life when she was 8 years old and had a brain tumor pressing against the midline of the brain. One morning, I randomly woke up with very little feeling in my legs. My chiropractor sent me for an MRI the next day, found severe herniated discs causing nerve damage, and referred me to Dr. Nagib. Dr. Nagib is absolutely fantastic. I read some of these reviews beforehand and was riddled with anxiety. I thought he would be cold and rude. He was so kind and welcoming. He performed a lumbar laminectomy on me 4/21. I was up and walking within 4 hours and off narcotics within 4 days. Many other surgeons require their patients to lay flat for days. My scar is barely noticeable and my pain is gone. I cannot thank him enough and highly recommend him. Oh! His one nurse kinda sucks but that’s not his fault. He didn’t hire her. His PA is great too. They’re a solid team. You’ll be in great hands with them.

Nagib is a highly skilled neurosurgeon, he has been practicing for many years. However, don't expect to see him personally other than before surgery or if a decision needs to be escalated in order to have surgery. Nagib is great with cases that tend to follow textbook, depending on what your condition is, he may be a great fit, he has performed some complex surgeries. But some conditions, he sticks to textbook symptoms and will only act until symptoms become life-threatening. While I can't recommend him based on past experiences with him, he is good at what he does if you are not an outlier of your condition.

Dr Nagib and his team took such amazing care of our son who had skull surgery at 4 months old. His heart is in his job.

Back in 2009 Dr. Nagib did my cervical spine fusions. I had three levels done with prevail cages used as the new discs. He is an AMAZING surgeon! Very kind hearted.. compassionate about his work and his patients! He is the BEST surgeon in my book! I felt so safe with Dr. Nagib doing my surgery. He was so caring and concerned about me. Totally puts his patients first! He is a very Humble man and only cares about making you better and to make sure the best is done. His 47 years of surgical experience and his expertise gave me the confidence to go forward with my surgery. He did a remarkable job! I am so thankful for Dr. Nagib! I wouldn't go anywhere else !! Thank you Dr. Nagib for giving me my life back and making me pain free!?? I am so grateful for his special skills and being the top neurosurgeon!

Dr Nagib saved my life not once but 4 times. He has no ego, has the best bedside manner, takes the time to explain things to you. His PA Sharon is extremely knowledgeable, also takes the time to make sure you understand everything you are going through. I have had 3 crainiotomys to remove 1 large meningioma and 3 other aggressive chordoid meningiomas and a 4 surgery due to skull infection and had to have my right skull reconstructed and a titanium plate put in. I now have 2 chordoid meningioma’s and either Dr Nagib or Sharon always call me back in a timely manner when I have questions. I would and have highly, highly recommended Dr Nagib to anyone. In my opinion he is the best neurosurgeon out there.

Amazing ! successfully inserted a vp shunt and took out part of my brain tumor ! Relieved me from throwing up every and came to visit me asking how I was . Amazing very good!!!!!

On August 7th I had ACDF surgery. Dr. Nagib performed my surgery and did a fantastic job. I have to say from the time we walked threw the doors at the hospital everyone was so friendly and nice and went out of there way to help you. When I was in pre op the nurses all had smiles and was there if you needed anything, then my anesthetist came in and explained everything to me what was going to happen what to excepted when everything was over. He said I was in very good hands and I was. Then the head nurses came in and told me also what would be going on and before I knew it I was going to surgery and then I woke up in the recovery room. I had a little sore throat and that was it. I stayed the night and all the doctors, nurses and helpers were also so very nice and good to me. I was scared to death having this done but by the time I got none talking with everyone they made me feel so good. I thank them all from the bottom of my heart for everything you did for me. Dr. Nagib saved my life when I had a large meningioma tumor that needed immediate removal. It was in a challenging location, but he was able to remove the entire tumor saving me from needing radiation if there had been any left.

After 4 surgeries on my neck Dr. Nagib is the only surgeon I wanted to make things right again. I had seen him before and he had done the 5th surgery. I can say he has been a life saver for me. His staff has been outstanding!! He even took the time to see me after my last surgery and help me with pain issues. Junia is Outstanding and caring about my pain issues. Knowing as we get older it is harder to get back life actives. Dr. Nagib and Staff was always there when I had questions and issues.

I had an awful experience with Dr. Nagib. I had a consult with him after finding out my baby had a neural tube defect. Maternal fetal medicine told me my baby had an encephalocele from a neural tube defect and referred me to Dr. Nagib to find out the severity. He told me he did not see a neural tube defect and that my baby would be fine. Two weeks later, I went back to the maternal fetal medicine clinic and was told my baby’s encephalocele had gotten worse. I was confused and got a second opinion at the U of M. They confirmed the encephalocele and also gave me additional information. I was given so much hope after meeting with Dr. Nagib and he was wrong. I had an awful experience with Dr. Nagib. I had a C5-6 discomectomy with fusion in 2006. I was in a lot of pain. They said I would be paralyzed if I did not get the surgery. I am glad I did get it. I woke up screaming in pain. SCREAMING! They gave me 10 mg of Perocet every 8 hours while I stayed at the hospital. Keeping in mind I was already on a higher dose before the surgery. The pain when I woke up was unreal.... I have never felt pain like that. I sobbed and the nurse smirked at me. She was Dr. Nagib's personal nurse. Horrible person! I believe her name was Sharon. I checked myself out after telling her to get out of my room and not to come back. Let's see. I got thrush from the breathing tube. My tongue swelled twice it's size. My throat was horrifically sore for a month. My pain was so unbearable I would cry in my sleep. They have NO follow up care. None. And the ONLY thing Dr. Nagib said to me was I said I would take care of the disc, I never said anything about the pain. I could not walk and swing my arms for six months. I could not drive. When I was in a vehicle (I took the bus and train a lot) I had to hold my head because every bit of movement was excruciating. I had to drop of out college. I could not work. I could barely sleep and take care of myself. My family grew to hate me and I lost all my friends. During my recovery my PT involved ultrasound for the first four months and light massage. No one ever warned me the recover would be a solid year. Now 12 years later my disc is still good but the pain has never gone away. I now have a herniation of the C6-7. I would NEVER go back to Dr. Nagib. He is not a nice person. His nurse is a rotten soul. He has NO beside manner. He never came to see me in the hospital. And I had to demand an appointment with him after the surgery. They only send you to nurses after the surgery. Thank heavens I had a great general practitioner who helped me through the pain. Now I have to work with chronic pain centers and it is a nightmare. But alas, I have a good life, two kids, and I can work. Rating Breakdown I had a C5-6 discomectomy with fusion in 2006. Dr. Nagib saved my daughter's life!

Had 2 back surgeries-different years for cyst on my back. He and his staff were WONDERFUL!! I would HIGHLY recommend him and this hospital. I wouldn't go anywhere else

A very kind and brilliant neurosurgeon!

When I was told that I had a spinal cord mass, Dr. Nagib was the only Neurosurgeon I considered. He is the best in the Twin Cities. The excellent post surgical outcome that I've experienced is due entirely to the skill of Dr. Nagib. I will always be thankful and feel gratitude for his kindness, compassion and talent as a surgeon.

Dr. Nagib has an amazing God-given gift...He preformed spinal surgery on my daughter in 2009, and also shunt surgeries in 2012...He always has the patients best interest in mind, and treats them as if they were his own...His nurses and staff that work with him, are also amazing! May the Lord bless you for using your gift to benefit so many...we are eternally gratefully for the love and care our daughter received from you and your staff.

This doctor has negleted to return my calls since my spine surgery. Totally incommunicado! I have symptons that I need clarification on but get no response from him. I recommend you find a surgeon with follow through and a heart.

Dr Nagib damaged my Vagus nerve leaving me with vocal cord paralysis. VCP affects my breathing, swallowing and the inability to speak with a normal voice. Three doctors have confirmed the damage was done by Dr Nagib but Dr Nagib refuses to return calls or acknowledge his error. So patient beware: This surgeon is a good surgeon but a spineless man. Absolutely love this place! Very caring, compassionate, and understanding doctor! They took very good care of me before, during, and no after my cervical surgery that was on 08-15-17! Dr.Nagib and his team will go above and beyond to take good care of you! I had to wait for my insurance to approve my surgery,he wrote a letter to my insurance and they called me two days later and the surgery was approved! Exactly 25 yrs ago today (1992) Dr Nagib saved my life by putting 2 clips on a giant aneurysm in my brain.

Dr. Nagib had been a God send to my family. First , my husband had his neck surgery with him back in 2007 then my brain surgery back in 2009. Can't say enough about how wonderful and miracles he brought into our lives after suffering for so long with chronic pain, black outs and more. It took me a while to write a review but after 6 years I believe ..he is worthy more than the review, but only God can reward him for his caring. Dr Nagib is an excellent neurosurgeon. He is considered by many neurologists and primary care doctors as well, to be the best neurosurgeon in Minnesota, and the Midwest. I have heard from several other doctors who have said he is in the top 10 of neurosurgeons in the WORLD. Dr. Nagib has done 3 surgeries on my cervical section of my neck. He has kept me not only alive but walking talking and breathing on my own. Without Dr Nagib, I would not be here.

Dr. Nagib is the best and his team is wonderful, we have choices to go to other hospitals that are closer to our house but we will always drive here to chiLdrens so Dr. Nagib stays my sons Dr. My son is 19 now and Dr. Nagib is the one that saved his life when he was first born and continues to save his life. Dr.Nagib is a neurosurgeon sent by God to save lives. His professional expertise on the field of medicine has saved many lives like me. I have had trigeminal neuralgia for 15 years until it got worst last year of June. The surgery has extended my life. Dr.Nagib is very accommodating,kind and dedicated to his profession....May God give him more power and blessings to accomplish his mission on earth..to CURE PEOPLE.
