Dr. Victor Hayes

In mid 2021, my 78 year old mother woke up and was suddenly unable to walk. It was as if overnight her legs stopped working. With all of her grown kids out of state (and her not wanting to worry anyone), she and my father kept it to themselves, hoping that it was a temporary issue. Over the next few months, she continued to get worse and finally told the family. She was referred to Dr. Victor Hayes who advised that surgery was her only option (she had severe spinal stenosis in all areas of the spine). The plan: Cervical laminectomy with fusion first, followed by thoracic and lumbar. While the cervical surgery was a success, no one could prepare us for the challenges to come. After 5 days in the hospital (Trinity Surgical Unit was great), she was referred to LifeCare for inpatient rehabilitation and physical therapy while awaiting the next surgeries. Whether it was due to covid, or holidays (this was December 26th), the rehab at LifeCare was non-existent and my mother's recovery was set back (lack of PT, lack of nutrition). My Dad is hard of hearing and Dr. Hayes kept me as the point of contact and listened to my concerns about the facility and her recovery. Dr. Hayes moved up the timeline for my mom's subsequent surgeries and completed the remaining just 3 weeks after the first. At her age and the complexity of the surgeries, she had a rough few weeks recovering in the ICU, but was finally strong enough to transfer to a spinal rehab hospital (Encompass at Spring Hill - *this is the place to rehab). Dr. Hayes continued to reach out and stay in touch with me each week between her follow-up visits to get updates on her care while in rehab. After 2 long months of hospitals and rehab facilities (bedsore, catheter, nausea, pain), my mother was able to come home with Home Health care in February. She has a long road ahead and is still building up her strength, but we can already see the progress she has made toward walking with a walker and gaining some independence. I don't wish this on anyone, but Dr. Hayes went above and beyond with keeping me informed as well as meeting each of my siblings along the way! Dr. Hayes spent this year on me with a bilateral fusion in my neck AND three level fusion in my back. His care with me was both successful and personable. His staff was always warm, welcoming and professional. Ive had a good experience here.

Dr Victor Hayes is amazing! I found him through workers comp He is the most caring doctor I ever saw. I had a pinched nerve in my left leg and several disc issues. as soon as he seen my mri he said it needed surgery. I was so scared he explained everything to me on a level that I understood. Took the time to do without plates and screws he is truly a surgeon with unmatched skills! He has a heart of gold and his staff are amazing as well! I'm giving Dr. Hayes 5 stars because they don't have 10 stars. I'v been going to Dr. Hays since 2008. He has massive compassion for his patients. Every time I've gone to him he has always expedited the process knowing the pain I was in. He has always tried the least invasive treatments first. That's because he actually cares. Doesn't jump right to "you need surgery" unless you need surgery. He has done 3 surgeries on me. 2008, 2012 & just a few days ago July of 2021. (Always on different discs). Unfortunately I have terrible discs. This time the herniation was absolutely crushing the nerve in my left leg & the pain was unbearable. Other Doctors Immediately told me I'll need Fusion (plates & screws.) This is the only Dr. who did it Endoscopicly & in the most minimally invasive way possible. He did it with confidence knowing I would be fixed. I was stricken to a chair for weeks leading up to the surgery. I was up & walking around within a few hours after surgery. The man has a heart of gold for his patients & as a surgeon, his skill level is unmatched. He called me personally twice just a few days apart to check on me. I will forever be in debt to this amazing man. His entire staff & team are incredible. Everybody cares. Without question, there is not a better spine specialist than this man. Dr. Hayes performed spinal fusion surgery on 06/08/2021. I have been seeing Dr. Hayes since 2009 for herniated discs. Because of other medical conditions, Dr. Hayes refused to do any surgery on me. He recommended epidural injections and physical therapy. I followed his advice and recently herniated 2 more discs. I also improved all of my other medical conditions to the point where Dr. Hayes said we could do the spinal fusion. It has been a month now since the surgery and I am doing very well. I have almost no neuropathy pain and my disc pain is gone. I would highly recommend Dr. Hayes to anyone with a back problem. I am proof that he truly puts surgery as the last option.

In a nutshell, Dr. Hayes took a terrifying experience and turned it around into something I should’ve gotten taken care of along time ago… He genuinely cares about the procedure, the recovery, and your pain after recovery… He was ahead of the game 100% of the time, even up to and including discharge from the hospital… Thank you Victor

Amazing Doctor! Victor Hayes did my husbands surgery and was honest, clear, and very detailed in his expectations along with what will occur. He personally called me after his surgery was completed (because I couldn’t be there due to COVID rules ) to let me know he did great. He was up front about timelines and process. Dr. Victor Hayes operated on my neck + back. I hesitated, sought 2nd opinion, told yes. Hesitated -he handled accident injuries, in it for the $? I COULD NOT HAVE BEEN MORE WRONG! Dr. Hayes is not only truthful, caring, but an Excellent Surgeon! Friends discouraged any surgery. MakeYourOwnDecision! I made the right decision with the Right Doctor! The back operation took longer than anticipated as he took the necessary time to do it right. Dr. Hayes conveyed because I am a small person the surgery was more difficult due to my small bone structure. My surgery required the delicate precision of a highly skilled surgeon. Dr. Hayes is strong in body and spirit and possessed the endurance and courageousness to get the long, arduous job done and done well. Graduated from Cornell - Very impressive. If I could give him 10 stars, I would. I have had 2 back surgeries by Dr. Hayes. In 2017, I was diagnosed with a burst L4-L5 herniated disc with bilateral radiculopathy (shooting pain down both legs/toes). In normal person terms, my herniated disc blew open and the fluid was obstructing my nerves and causing severe pain & mild urinary incontinence (because when it happened, I didn't know I needed to go - the nerve signal was cut off and didn't get to my brain). I interviewed 4 orthopedic surgeons that were recommended to me, all of which advised I was close to being paralyzed and needed to have surgery. Dr. Hayes was the most qualified and he gave me the opportunity to attempt to rehabilitate my back -- he conducted surgery as a last resort. Dr. Hayes also offered and performed a "soft fusion" -- he had to remove the disc fluid, but instead of putting in plates/screws, he cut a piece of the lamina from my hip and put it in my low back to "fuse" my own bone together and give me the highest likelihood of getting back my full range of motion. It worked! Within 9 months, I was doing "full wheel" in yoga and had incredible, no pain flexibility! Unfortunately, I was born with a bad back. 4 years later, April 2021, I blew out the disc again, this time in a different place, and I had a nerve impingement causing 24/7 pain. It happened all of a sudden after weeks of training for a half marathon. Dr. Hayes visited me in the hospital and determined I was eligible for immediate surgery. He gave me the option of one session of injections prior to surgery. When they didn't work, I was on my way to a follow up appointment and my body went into shock (I lost full consciousness, broke into a sweat, heart rate soared -- all from 10/10 pain which felt like 20/10 pain). I had to be rushed to the ER. Dr. Hayes performed emergency surgery that day. He never asked for my insurance information or asked how he'd be compensated. He just agreed to perform the surgery and did so AFTER HOURS that day so that I could be on my road to recovery. He quite literally saved my life. I am almost a month out from my second surgery & I'm recovering nicely. With any other doctor, I'd have plates and screws in my back. Dr. Hayes is an incredible surgeon and I unequivocally recommend him!!!!

After walking around in severe pain for months and a trip to the ER,I was referred to Dr. Hayes at Trinity Spine Center. Dr. Hayes explained to me what was wrong with my back and what needed to be done so I could be back to living a pain free life. Dr. Hayes and his staff made me feel very comfortable with the decision to move forward with surgery on my back. Once the surgery was conducted, I was able to walk around my home pain free. I will forever be thankful to Dr. Hayes and his outstanding staff.

Dr. Hayes gave me back my life. In October 2019 I hurt my back I thought. I began to see a Dr. near my home with no success. That Dr only wanted to provide me with pain meds and not get to the root of the problem. A co-worker referred me to the Trinity Spine Center. I originally met with Dr. Saldin who while reviewing my MRI brought Dr. Hayes in for consultation. Long story short Dr. Hayes provided my surgery and I have my life back. Dr. Hayes and his staff have been fantastic to work with and I am 100% pain free after being in constant pain for almost a year. Thank you to Dr. Hayes and his team I appreciate each and every one of you.

Dr Hayes was able to perform surgery to remove two herniated discs that were pressing on my spinal cord. I no longer have pain in my arm and can perform all my normal functions again.

A dear friend of mine needed neck and back surgery 6 years ago. She chose Dr Victor Hayes. Not only did he perform her surgery he and his wife brought Thanksgiving dinner to her in the hospital. So when my husband needed back and neck surgery we chose Dr Victor Hayes. I would say he is the most compassionate and competent surgeon in the southeast. This place is the worst place for any medical paper work they will not support there finding s in writing or help you to get dissabilty they refuse all paper work period your better off somewhere else

Not sure how anyone could rate this place a 5 star. Called about 2 weeks ago for an appointment. Gave insurance and information. Was told I would get the new patient paper work in the mail. Never got it. Took the day off and showed up. Walked up to the desk and said I had a appointment. "I'm on lunch, if you want to have a seat and wait for me to get back, I can help you then" Wow just wow people. Then someone in what looked like a nurse uniform walked up to me and said to go to the second floor. So I went to the second floor and found out I still had to wait until everyone got back for the "call center" before I could do the paper work. The lady on the second floor was super nice and honest with me but there was no appointment. I told her I would go get food and come back. Yeah, I never went back. Who the f*** runs a business like that? How are these people still in business? I'm reading these 5 star reviews, they are all fake. This place is a con. avoid it. This is one of the worst offices I have ever dealt with. The staff is beyond incompetent. After weeks of trying to book an appointment, being told daily someone would call me back to book an appointment only to never even once have someone call me back, I have given up on this facility. I would never want to have a relationship with a practice like this. I have met with the doctor prior and feel he could be a good doctor but with a faculty this terrible it does not matter how good the doctor is when the staff is this terrible. Saw Dr.Hayes.Very informative and thorough in review of my MRI, explained the procedure I needed and my heal time.He was compassionate and went above and beyond for me.Thankful to be in good hands.He took my pain away from a ruptured disk.

Told me I had to have neck surgery after looking at my MRI or I would be in a wheelchair within 10 years and that it had to be done within 3 months. Had a second opinion and found out my problem was Carpal Tunnel. Neck surgery would have been an unnecessary mistake leading to potential loss of strength for life. Not recommended.

I saw Dr. Hayes for a crushed L2 vert following a sledding accident. He recommended Kyphoplasty, but I didn't want anything surgical. Instead, I participated in their PT and saw him again at 12 weeks post injury & I was still in a great deal of pain so he again offered the benefits of the kypho... I did more research, agreed & kicked myself for not doing it at 4 weeks. I had it done with a local & while it is not a fun procedure (& you are more sore for a day or 2 after) it improved my overall pain level by 50%. From my first visit, Dr Hayes addressed my needs and concerns with his delightful demeanor, charm and professional courtesy. He made me realize through his confidence that he was the right Dr for me. Less than two weeks after procedure I can say honestly that I haven't felt this good in my back in twenty five years. I now require very little pain medication and look to require none at all in less than a month. God bless this fabulous Dr. I highly and heartily recommend him.

I was in car accident . I am very active with a florist. The accident left me in so much pain but I had to be sure surgery was absolutely necessary. I met with Dr Hayes after a referral from my chiropractor. I was very comfortable with him. He did an amazing job and I feel better than I have in a long time. Getting stronger every day. Dr. Hayes didn't spend a lot of time going over the recommended procedure which made me uncomfortable at first and so I delayed surgery for a couple months. While he is very confident and does these surgeries every week, for myself it was a scary prospect. However, the surgery itself went smoothly and my recovery has been very good so far. I had an anterior cervical fusion at C6-7. The surgery seems to have alleviated 95% of the symptoms I had from the injured disc. I would recommend him.
