Dr. Abbas A Jowkar

Doctor Jowkar or his staff altered my permanent medical records in a suspicious fashion after I accused him of discrimination. I reported the incident to Patient Relations. The situation, Dr. Jowkar or his staff went through the peer review process because of these issues. I was never given the findings. I feel this physician acted in a suspicious and careless manner. Memorial Healthcare Institute in Owasso, Mi is a far better choice.

If I could give 0 stars, I would. Not only did he medically gaslight me, he completely missed my diagnosis. I had to have EMG testing elsewhere, to find that I had a chronic demyelinating disease. He delayed my ability to start treatment and was extremely rude and judgmental. I have never felt this mistreated in healthcare and I am a healthcare provider myself. I called to discuss my experience with the office manager, who was just as rude and dismissive.

Because my diagnosis was for a rare condition and the treatment being a series of infusions over at least a year I wanted a 2nd opinion. So I reached out to the Mayo Clinic. After sending them all of my test results and the treatment plan that Dr. Jowkar suggested they agreed with him 100%.

The comedy of errors made by Dr. Jowkar and his staff would be funny -- if it was not my health and well being we were dealing with. On more than one occasion it took the doctor/staff more than one attempt to get my labs ordered correctly (up to three times before they got it right) which was not only frustrating, but also wasteful of my time and gas to go to the lab only to discover the doctor had screwed up yet again. The communication to/from the doctor and staff was lacking, at best. (When I finally saw him again three months after my previous appointment he was unaware that my symptoms had progressed - even though I had spoken with the nurses/staff about it on more than one occasion.) The staff was sometimes rude, did not return phone calls when they said they would, and I even caught the customer service manager (Sarah) in an outright lie - again, this is my health we are talking about - this is simply not acceptable! After waiting three months to see the doctor again, he told me he had nothing for me - that he was stumped - that we could proceed to the next level of testing but that it would require him to redo testing we had done previously (EMG specifically) but he really didn't want to do that/think we would find anything new. (Despite the fact that my symptoms had progressed.) What a waste of my time and money. My primary doctor fully supported me in seeing a second opinion with a different neurologist/office in hopes that this time we would find one who was interested in my health care. I had multiple visits with Dr. Jowkar. I found him to be straight forward and kind. He obviously was very experienced in his field of practice.

Outstanding physician.

I appreciate his efforts to address my medical issues which he did methodically however he to provide an adequate medical record summary of what he has done and what I need to do.

I practiced for 30yrs before loosing most of my sight. I was referred to Dr. Jowkar for an EMG due to loss of sensation, proprioception and muscle tone / hyperreflexia lower extremities with frequent falling without dizziness. Before asking me any questions or examining me, he walked into the exam rm. and stated, I have reviewed your chart and it is your Retinitis Pigmentosa that is causing your balance problems, that is all. I explained to him that I did not have that type of RP. He accusingly stated how could you possibly know that. I explained that I had DNA sequencing and that I know the exact type of RP I have and that is not that one (over 300 types). He shook his head in disbelief. (I write an international research blog on the disease.) He did EMG, became somewhat apologetic, stating that I did have Peripheral Neuropathy after all. C-4 Lesion. Technically skilled but Zero kindness/personality & very arrogant.

Terrible experience. His staff was great! From the front staff to his MA, they were great. Unfortunately, Dr. Jowkar was not. He did not address any of my concerns but focused on one of my conditions that is treated by a different doctor and went on about the medication they put me on was wrong. Instead of addressing the actual issue I was referral for. Very disappointed.
