Ajit J Deshmukh

Was sent to Dr. Deshmukh by my primary care doctor when I complained about hip/leg stiffness. I didn’t even know he was a surgeon. My x-rays showed bone on bone in both hips, and that I was eligible for full hip replacement on both sides. I was flabbergasted, although I’d been struggling for years. He didn’t force surgery on me. At first we decided to do nothing, because pain was not that bad. But over the course of one summer, I felt began to reconsider. I met with Dr. Deshmukh again for a consultation, and he patiently took me through what to expect and what improvement was possible. Because of his positive, competent, kind energy I decided to have surgeries on both sides. My right hip was replaced in October, and I had the left one done a few weeks ago. Dr. Deshmukh has been incredible throughout—he is not only a great surgeon, he really cares. The surgeries have changed my life for the better and I am eternally grateful. This is a physician who probably would receive the ultimate humanitarian award for being the best overall orthopaedic doctor of all times. This outstanding physican gives patient time, provides full explanation of surgical procedures, and makes himself available while you are in his care, etc. The complements given here are from my own experiences having met Dr. Deshmukh over 1.5 years ago. And no wonder since making future appointments with him has made him into NYU Langone's rockstar in orthopaedic medicine. A physician truly you can count on and you will not be disappointed.

I underwent a total hip replacement operation on March 2, 2023 at the Harborside VAMC Hospital in Manhattan. I was up and walking with a walker 4 hours after the operation. I went home 4 days later and required minimal pain relievers thereafter. I started using a cane as soon as I got home. Two weeks later for my Post Op visit I was walking freely barely using the cane at all. I was given the green light to drive my car which allowed me to return living in my cabin in Penna. I strongly recommend Dr. Deshmukh for anyone considering a hip replacement. He comes highly recommended and I can see why!

I chose Dr. Deshmukh to replace my hip - the second one to go - foremost because he was highly recommended AND he was hands down the most down-to-earth and respectful physician I had consulted about having that surgery. I appreciated how he listened carefully to my concerns and fully included me in the decision of whether and when to have the procedure. He totally advocated that the decision should made on the basis of both current level of pain/functionality, as well as the impact any limitations were having on my quality of life - rather than any suggestion of restricting activity he supported my priority on being able to be as fully physical as I wanted to/could be. The surgery went absolutely smoothly and Dr. Deshmukh's warmth and understated confidence was the perfect balm for my pre-op jitters. I sent my husband to him for knee surgery and we can't sing his praises loudly enough. A lovely person, excellent communicator, and top notch doctor.

Absolutely the best surgical and office team

In Sept. 2022, Dr. Deshmukh did a total knee replacement that i recovered from within weeks. Two months later, I fell and damaged that knee. Totally my fault. It required corrective surgery two months ago. I was in the middle of the Caribbean Sea when i emailed him. He immediately contacted me. By ship, ambulance, a hospital in florida, a flight to LaGuardia and a dear friend delivering my husband and me to NYU Orthopedic Hospital on Wed., Jan. 11, i was processed immediately. At 7:30 am the next morning I was in surgery. Now less than 2 months later, he did a miraculous job repairing my knee. I am so blessed to be taken care of by the best. On 12/14/2022 my mother had a total hip replacement done by Dr. Deshmukh my mother could not have been in better hands. Dr. Deshmukh is a very caring compassionate surgeon towards his patients and patients family. My mom was a high risk candidate for this surgery and I had a lot of questions and concerns, whenever I had a question or a concern about anything I would send Dr. Deshmukh a message and he would clarify any concern that I had which put my mom and myself at ease. My mom was evaluated by multiple orthopedic surgeons in the past and she postponed having surgery because she was afraid and didn't feel comfortable, after the first visit with Dr. Deshmukh my mom decided to have surgery, he made my mom feel very comfortable and explained everything thoroughly. Dr. Deshmukh is definitely and excellent surgeon and I would recommend him to anyone that needs a wonderful, caring surgeon. I always felt at ease in my visits. Dr. Deshmukh is not only an excellent surgeon, but a compassionate human as well.

Dr. Deshmukh performed a total knee replacement on my left knee in early December, 2022. I am a very active mountain climber, and it was very important to me that I regain a maximum amount of use of my knee after surgery. I am pleased to say that I am well on my way to attaining that goal. I found Dr. Deshmukh to be thoughtful, articulate, compassionate and above all an excellent surgeon.

My mom had a right hip replacement done by Dr. Deshmukh in January of 2023. The doctor called me the morning of my mothers surgery just to go over a few things and then he called me as soon as the surgery was over to let me know what a success it was. My mom is 82 years old and within a few days maybe even less, she was walking like a pro. And lets not forget to mention doctor's kind and courteous staff, Kimberly the surgical coordinator and Michael his PA, well lets just say my mom couldn't have been in better hands.

Very pleasant. The staff was professional and polite. Dr.Deshmukh did a fantastic job replacing my hip and answered all my questions.

I had total hip replacement Feb. 2020 right before COVID shut down NYC. Dr Deshmukh was kind, courteous and took time to listen to all my questions. The surgery was a huge success! My life became pain free within a short period of time. I highly recommend Dr Deshmukh. you will feel like he is a member of your family with his remarkable bedside manners in the hospital and office!

I had a very complicated knee replacement case. I was so impressed when I first met Dr. Deshmukh because he knew my entire case, he obviously took the time to go over it before walking in. He ultimately discovered a severe infection in my knee that went previously undetected. 2 surgeries later I have my life back and I am able to walk again pain free Thanks to Dr. Deshmukh. He is kind and caring, his bedside manner is above and beyond. He treats you like you are his only patient and talks to you like you are a human being. I would highly recommend.

I feel so lucky to have found Dr. Ajit Deshmukh. The idea of having hip replacement surgery for my second hip was terrifying because I was in a lot of pain from my first hip replacement performed at another hospital. The recovery was very difficult. After just the first visit, Dr. Deshmukh put my mind at ease. He was kind and empathetic, and took his time to clearly explain everything. After my first surgery (at the other hospital), my recovery time was a full year. After Dr. Deshmukh’s surgery, my recovery time was under three months, and I feel amazing! Thank you so much Dr. Deshmukh! You gave me my life back!

Dr. Ajit J. Deshmukh was highly recommended by a family member, who recently had a procedure done by Dr. Deshmukh. She stated he is kind, caring and great bedside manner. My husband needed to have a procedure done and we went to Dr. Deshmukh. He is the best Orthopedic Surgeon. We have recommended him to many others who have accepted him.
