Dr. Alan Patrick Chun

Over the past year, we have been trying to find the right oral surgeon for my son's wisdom tooth extraction. I wanted to make sure we found the right surgeon because there is risk involved. One of my close friends, for instance, had an extraction which resulted in the loss of taste and permanent feeling in half of her tongue. The situation devastated her because she was an aspiring chef, who ended up changing her career. Finding a highly skilled surgeon with substantial experience, but who also has reputable training and educational background, are therefore qualifications I feel very strongly about. (I learned that Dr. Chun has been practicing in San Ramon supporting the community for over 20 years, and received his education and rigorous training from Harvard Medical School.) It was recommendations from my son's friends which made us aware of Dr. Chun. Two of his friends at DVHS were patients of Dr. Chun's over the years, and described their operations as very smooth with absolutely no complications and a fast recovery time. At Dr. Chun's office, the front desk assistant Stephanie went over all of the billing details for us after contacting the insurance company while we were receiving our consult. One of the nurses, Jill, was so kind and patient with our questions, helping to fill us in in terms of what we would expect before, during and after the procedure. When Dr. Chun came in, he was very kind but direct in terms of his prognosis, giving us the confidence that my son would be in good hands. The surgery went smoothly the day of. Everyone in Dr. Chun's team was so supportive. Stephanie went above and beyond to share her updated findings with the insurance company without my further asking, she had found a way to decrease the overall expected out-of-pocket total. When I noticed my son was a little bit scared and just mentioned this to Stephanie matter-of-factly after he had already gone in to the operating room, Stephanie told me not to worry - and quickly rushed to tell the nurses so that they could take further steps to assure and comfort him prior to the surgery. After the surgery was completed, Jill proceeded to carefully detail all of the things we needed to think about, such as how to best fold the gauze, position and replace them, and when to plan all of the different medication (including medication for pain relief, anti-nausea for patients who may be sensitive to the pain relief medication, and for anti-swelling.) The team also suggested I could repark my car so it would be closer to the back exit so my son wouldn't need to walk as far. Jill helped to support him every step of the way back towards the car. Although Dr. Chun had another patient, he came out to meet us again just to make sure everything was ok and to give me an update that everything went smoothly. He even thoughtfully noticed that my son didn't put on his seatbelt and suggested he not forget to do so. My son's operation was 10 hours ago. He is essentially fine right now, no bleeding, minimal swelling, is already talking to me, laughing and playing video games. I very highly recommend Dr. Chun and team without hesitation.

I wish I could give 5 negative stars. The worst doctor visit in my life. TERRIBLE & UNPROFESSIONAL service. From the receptionist to the surgeon, they are all unprofessional and not helpful. Dr. Chun even showed his attitude raising his voice to explain the situation to me who’s a first-time patient…”I have 99.999% patients….” I couldn’t stand it and I walked away. They told me to pay $131 out of my pocket for the panoramic X-ray which the insurance didn’t cover. However, I checked my insurance co and my insurance covers 85% of the panoramic x-ray. They lied and I did ask them if they had checked my insurance and they said they did. What a liar!!!!!! Is that how they do business without any integrity?? I wish I could give 5 negative stars. What a bad service from the Alan Chun and additude it's amazing when a dentist still goes back and refer him self to be a former Doctor.... Maybe a head doctor but not a doctor but I guess in his mind he is a patient person who cares ........Not........ attitude and trowing a temper tantrum better to leave to him and not take care of the caverty Canot recommend at all What a bad service from the Alan Chun and additude it's amazing when a dentist still goes back and refer him self to be a former Doctor.... I have taken 5 family members to see Dr. Chun and have always been extremely pleased with the outcome. Dr. Chun personally has followed up after the surgery of each to ensure all is well. Dr. Chun is knowledgable, professional and truly cares about his patient. The staff is very friendly and professional. I often recommend his office to others. Unfortunately we had a very bad experience. Our 17 year old daughter had 4 wisdom teeth taken out. The Dr started her out on Norco and that wasn’t enough. He then prescribed something much more powerful that caused our daughter to lose control of herself. We called the dr and he called back...he knew we were having an awful time and then he NEVER checked back with us to see how our daughter was doing. We had to take her to the emergency room twice. Both drs questioned the pain killers he prescribed. One of the other drs called the medicine he prescribed synthetic heroin. I did call and the dr and he apologized but the fact he never checked back with us when he knew we were under severe duress really bothers me. We have 2 other kids and they never had this problem. Too bad you can't give people negative stars. No issues with Dr. Chun's medical knowledge, but after a recent visit we find out they lied to us about our insurance. We find out a day before they procedure, and cancel because the fees are much higher than they should be. So now after they lie to us they want to charge a $200 cancellation fee! Not sure how people this deceptive can stay in business. If you are referred to Dr. Chun just make sure you ask a lot of questions about exactly how you will be billed and which insurance he takes. If you have a choice to go somewhere else, I would recommend you do. Not worth the time, stress and effort to make sure you're not getting hosed. Too bad you can't give people negative stars.
