Dr. Alina Michele Mcdermed

I go to Dr McDermed for primary care and sports medicine. She is very compassionate and a great listener. Very thorough and it is refreshing to finally have a doc I feel great going to for my health!

Worst doctor ever. Does not listen to what you say. Talks down to you. Acts like you don't know your own symptoms. Does not check your file to see if you had this illness in the past and how it was handled, to achieve getting well. I only went to her because my primary doctor was out on sick leave, I will Never go to her again. I don't know why the office has her down as part of my "care team" but I have been trying to get her name off my information. I will not give up until I do. I have been a patient at Spectrum in N. Muskegon since they opened their doors, and have never had a doctor like this EVER.

1st visit and am impressed by Dr. McDermott's method of introduction - She had thoroughly read my file, but still took the time for personal greeting and discussion of my medical history.

For the second time Dr. McDermed's office has called to cancel a scheduled appointment for my 85 year old mother-in-law. We have tried for 6 months to get my mother-in-law in to see Dr. McDermed, but there is ALWAYS an excuse like they overbooked patients or an "emergency". We have been pushed off on PA's & NP's in the past but every single time we have requested to see Dr. McDermed some thing comes up and we are asked to reschedule again. The last visit, we were pushed off on a NP who told my wife that he had all the skills and training of a geriatric specialist doctor but couldn't even remove skin tags correctly!!! We have had to endure ignorance from minimum wage receptionists like being refused service to my mother-in-law and my wife because the HIPAA paperwork had lapsed even though their record indicated that my wife has durable power of attorney and medical power of attorney because my mother-in-law has Alzheimer's disease. Spectrum Health and Dr. McDermed are terrible!

We are constantly ... CONSTANTLY ... calling the office to set up appointments but get no answer. We have waited on hold as long as 30 minutes and no one will answer! We leave messages AND NO ONE RETURNS CALLS! We have found it safer and easier to take her to a Medicenter or in to the Mercy ER rather than wait for them. The final straw was when a nurse refused to discuss my mother-in-law with my wife despite us having durable power of attorney and medical power of attorney (which is on file with Dr. McDermed's office) because the HIPAA document had expired and no one from the office informed us this had happened. The PA in the office has failed to send x-rays and other information the the nursing home after telling us she would. The ONLY way we have been able to get information to the proper people / places is to personally deliver it. I would warn anyone thinking of using Dr. McDermed to please rethink that decision and in order to save your life or your loved one's life.

I have written before, but this is a new twist to my review. She claimed there was no record of my asthma and other lung problems (which are hereditary) that I have been experiencing. Why, these are not on my records, I don't know. Glitches in the system? Not recorded as they should have been? She proceeded to talk down to me as a child, as if I don't know my own health records or that she may think I am senile. Some of the emails, she wrote I thought, were written by her medical assistant, but she quickly said that it was she who wrote. I told her I could not believe any doctor would talk to their patient like that. No compassion, no understanding and no handle on a patient's health problems. With the covid-19 virus going on, I feel I do not have a doctor I can depend on. A very scary thought considering what is going on right now.

I've been under Dr. Mcdermed's care since 2013 and since she has transferred to North Muskegon ( in 2016) her level of care has diminished. She had an MRI ordered which had to rescheduled due to a panic attack. The MRI is the deciding factor on whether I have MS. Dr Mcdermed sent me back to work full duty before seeing the MRI or the cardiologist report. She is also unwilling to discuss the situation and sent her Physician's Assistant in to do her dirty work. When things became tense the PA went to go get Dr Mcdermed who magically "vanished" when she was there 5 minutes prior as she was seen sitting at her desk. Do yourself a favor DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME!!!!!

Apparently she only wants to treat people with sprains or strains that will recover quickly and be gone. I am a senior citizen with chronic hereditary health issues. She misread my health history and tried to have me take drugs that I’m highly allergic to, didn’t follow up with a full prescription for 10 days for my infection, didn’t culture the infection, was very brusque in manner, didn’t listen to my issue. I ended up going to the E.R.

Dr McDermed is one of the BEST family health providers! I had a difficult time finding a dr who would take me as a patient when my other dr left practice. It took me almost a year to find her and she accepted me right away. She's very theral and personal too. So thankful to have her as my dr!

She was nice, however she did not listen to me when i told her i have a respiratory infection and i needed antibiotics not steroids. I woke up the next day gasping for air and called the office only to get a call hours after i already went to urgent care (where they gave me antibiotics because i had a severe respiratory infection, unlike what dr. Mcdermed had said), telling me that these things can take several weeks to go away and to just take over the counter cough medicine. Never again.

Takes time to explain things caring manner

I would recommend Dr. McDermed to anyone very helpful and knowledgeable and follows up with me on my health and medications or anything I need. very good doctor to work with.
