If your loved ones have Alzheimer's/Dementia, Dr. Molchon is not the right doctor for you. I'm sure he was a great doctor in his young age, but he is so old (sorry had to say it) and past retirement that complicated cases are not his forte. He doesn't answer back phone, he forgets ALOT, and he pretty much has a not-so-helpful front desk gentleman that pretty much just sits there doing nothing. He is kind and sweet and just lovely to talk with, but unfortunately he is not on the top of his game anymore. Time to retire doc and have some rest. One visit -- a fine initial visit -- tried to book a follow-up and anticipated subsequent meetings but he missed THREE re-scheduled appointments ... and in each occasion, I was the one who had to call their office to try to resolve the situation. There is no resolving such situations with such a disorganized and/or uncaring provider.

Pros: Highly intelligent, competent both in general and neurogeriatric psychiatric psychiatry. Dr. Molchon studies continuously, stays up to date with both technical and therapeutic interventions.Expert with medications. Very kind, good listener, tailors treatment to individual patient. Good sense of humor. Decades of experience. Models healthy and well adjusted behaviors. Modest. Good boundaries. Much better than most psychiatrists one can find in Northern Virginia. Doctor Molchon is a kind person but not reliable. He doesn’t return (multiple) phone calls; he doesn’t respond to faxes from pharmacies requesting permission to refill a prescription. He is very distractable and is fond of repeating old stories and theories. I don’t feel he knows me at all though I have seen him four times. It’s great that he takes Medicare, but I’m going to have to switch to a psychiatrist I feel safer with and trust more, even if I have to pay full price.

After seeing multiple doctors and trying many medications, Dr. Molchon found a medication for depression. Forever grateful.
