Knowledgeable, thorough, courteous…in other words, all you want in your doctor.

My primary physician sent me to see Dr. Schafer for a question of a possible blood disorder. I must say I was very, very impressed. I barely sat in the waiting area before I was called into the exam/consultation room. The medical assistant was friendly and efficient in taking my temp and bp. Dr. Schafer came into the room within 2 minutes after she had left. He had already reviewed my chart and the labs from my primary. He took a very careful history and explained to me very clearly what his thoughts were. He was open to any questions I might have. I left the office with a feeling of relief that I was in the hands of a wonderful physician. I give him and his staff my highest recommendation.

Dr. Schafer is an outstanding doctor who listens, informs and researches. I am always impressed by his warm, caring approach.

Besides whatever technical knowledge he brings -- not being a hematologist, I'm in no position to really know, but he IS the head of hematology at Cornell Weill, and so far my slightly complicated case seems to be well managed -- he's a doctor who truly listens and engages w/ the patient. Incredibly empathetic: he has perhaps the best "bedside manner" of any doctor I've ever encountered. He also is not in a rush to push medication on me, in fact seems to be doing whatever he can to avoid prescribing me anything, which, in this day and age, is fairly miraculous. Just an altogether fantastic doctor. Can't recommend highly enough.

Is always a pleasure to meet with him. Is one of the most knowledgeable, professional and careening dr that I have encounter. I always receive great service and info of my situation. Can’t thank him enaugh.

I do not hesitate to give Dr. Andrew Schafer my highest recommendations. I would have never figured out that my many symptoms were due to IgA deficiency without Dr. Schafer. He is a Master of the Blood, attentive to detail and has the disposition of a kind and patient gentleman (he reminds me of Santa Clause- seriously). Testing my blood with Dr. Schafer changed my life; understanding what is going on, the core cause, is a huge step upward-- I now turn to supplements which successfully remedy my symptoms. I feel lucky, even privileged to be under the care of Dr. Schafer, my hematologist.
