Dr. Wakefield and everyone in the office are amazing to work with! I went in for a procedure that was NOT planned! The transition was as smooth as smooth could be during the current state of our medical system. I had the best bed side manner and was accommodated appropriately for the urgency of my situation. My recovery has been smooth and I'm able to do some things that I've never been able to do! My neck fusion has improved my quality of life substantially and I couldn't be happier.

Dr. Wakefield was thorough in his description and treatment of my issue. He proposed other non-surgical options that I took advantage of before surgery which I appreciated. I am now scheduled for surgery and look forward to a positive result.

Dr. Wakefield and his staff are fantastic. I had lumbar fusion over a year ago and I’m doing great. They have been attentive & caring throughout the process. I highly recommend Dr. Wakefield - I trusted him with my back & life. My quality of life has returned after many years of pain.

Dr.Wakefield was on time, and was very patient in answering questions and reviewing MRIs. He gave us a feeling of knowledge and experience as well as confidence. He answered our questions thoroughly. Was a Great experience. I highly recommend him!!

Dr Wakefield explains things to you in terms that you can understand. He does not push surgery in fact he wants to try everything else first. The staff are courteous and efficient and his PA Sean Brennan is great. I am due for my second surgery in June and I have complete confidence in this whole office.

Dr Wakefield and his staff are all very kind and caring. They take the time to carefully explain things and are very responsive. I would highly recommend Dr. Wakefield for neurosurgery. I had a very good experience with him for a spinal laminectomy. He is excellent!

I’m a 54 year old with chronic pain due to degenerative disc disease and by now I have seen my fair share of doctors. Dr. Wakefield is one of the two best physicians I have ever met or been treated by. He is exceedingly patient, willing to answer questions, and clearly cares about his patients. He is also an extremely talented surgeon - the discectomy and fusion surgery he performed on my neck was stellar. It alleviated the excruciating pain down my left arm immediately and left only a small scar, much smaller than the first instance of that surgery I had 3 years prior with a different surgeon, and with a shorter easier recovery. Last point - his staff seems to have been hand-selected to match Dr. Wakefield’s personality and attitude towards patients. The surgery went well. The meetings before and after surgery went well. The discussions were very informative and I left feeling very satisfied with the outcomes. My regular doctor recommended Dr.Wakefield when I asked for a doctor that would give me a second opinion. I'm very glad that I got the second opinion..

Having made the best choice in my life when I found Dr. Wakefield and his awesome staff. He performed a bi- level ACDF C5-C7 spinal fusion that gave me my life back. I'm a little over 6 months post op but I was doing things just weeks later, very painful still no doubt about that but I was determined. Dr. Wakefield is an extraordinary surgeon. He sincerely cares and has provided me with his unhurried, supremely experienced attention. I would have no qualms referring anyone that I care about to him.

Dr. Wakefield is the best! He takes the time needed to diagnose and be clear at educating on the problem at hand, and advising on recommended next steps. Couldn't be happier having him as my back doctor!

Everyone during my visit was very courteous, helpful, knowledgeable and professional. I felt very comfortable with everyone from start to finish.

Everyone in the office is so nice. I've been going there for years and I've never had to wait too long but the most important thing is that Dr. Wakefield is THE BEST neurosurgeon!! I wouldn't trust anyone else....I had back surgery a year ago and I knew I was in the perfect hands. Dr. Wakefield is also kind, confident but not one bit arrogant! Dr. Wakefield has an excellent 'bed-side' manner, who listens carefully to each of your questions and responds with thoughtful comments. Besides, he is an very good surgeon who resolved most of my lower back and leg problems.

Dr Wakefield is Compassionate & caring and explains everything about the procedure , the effects snd side effects. He personified the kind of docter I feel comfortable with and made me part of the decision making process which few take the time to do anymore.

One of the best surgical experiences I’ve had. From the staff in the office and the pre-care at BJI to interacting with Dr. Wakefield and Greg....I felt very safe and confident that I was in great hands. The Staff at the BJI...from the Pre-op, OR, PACU, and the overnight stay...thank you very much!!!!

I have had serious back pain for years that had been getting progressively worse. My quality of life had been seriously compromised. My last option was a triple back fusion and as you can imagine it was a difficult decision between going under the knife or living with the pain. Thank goodness that I decided on the fusion. I went into the hospital with a pain level of about 7 and miraculously coming out of surgery the level was no more than 1(no pain meds). I was out of the hospital in 3 days, still with minimal pain and 6 weeks later I am feeling normal and will be golfing in another 6 weeks. I have my life back. Thank you Doctor Wakefield. Dr. Wakefield is a treasure.He is a skilled surgeon. Dr. Wakefield is a kind, caring, empathetic, patient and funny person. He performed an emergency cervical fusion. It was a great success. In less than a year I received a lower back fusion surgery performed by Dr. Wakefield. Again a great success. His staff had set up my surgery within weeks after a MRI showing lumbar damage. They are amazing. All of them are sharp as tacks.competent, kind and personable group. It is a pleasure going to my appointments.Recently I went to Dr. Wakefield for neck, head and entire body pain.Dr. Wakefield had ordered neck and back X-rays. I could tell it wasn’t related to my surgeries.But it was comforting to tell Dr. Wakefield my extreme health problems.He listened in a compassionate manner. He prescribed short term steroids allowing me to get further testing.It ended up that I had Lyme.The downside of visit was when I was told I was all set with my surgeries. I didn’t need to come back. I’ll miss him.

My husband received a cervical fusion. Dr. Wakefield explained the procedure and the surgery was a success. We highly recommend him. He really takes the time to answer questions and concerns.

Dr. Wakefield had MRI and X rays taken and explained procedure and possible problems to open a vertebra to stop pinching of spinal nerve. I was standing the day of the operation and walking the next day and the old pain was gone. With physical therapy I am now (3 months later) able to do what I did years ago. I recommend Dr. Wakefield for all spinal problems.

I recently had surgery with Dr Wakefield. I have been impressed with the services provided by his office start to finish, from the well-organized and friendly person at the front desk, to the efficient and kind MA, the PAs, and Dr. Wakefield himself. My surgery went well and I am recovering appropriately. The office is very well organized and patient-centered. My concerns about my condition were consistently listened to and addressed with my values and opinions always being considered. Both Dr Wakefield and his PA, Sean, have a deep understanding of my problem and what I have been experiencing. Therefore they have been able to guide me every step of the way. The office was incredibly prompt in addressing things such as forms and medication refills. I am so glad that I as referred to this office and I would recommend Dr Wakefield and his staff without hesitation.

Dr. Wakefield, Sean and the office staff are wonderful and a blessing. I was in so much agony and pain for over a year, when a client of mine recommended Dr. Wakefield. I meet with him and Sean at different times and they were both honest and let me know my options regarding surgery vs. non surgery and let me tell you, I'm so glad I had my surgery. I am a new person. I had ACDF C5 and C6 and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Dr. Wakefield was actually a second opinion surgeon and I'm so glad I went with him and not the first surgeon. I didn’t get to meet with the doctor but I wasn’t disappointed, as this doctor office has a wonderful team. The girl at the front desk is just patient, sweet and has a great attitude. Debbie the RN who took my info was compassionate, professional and personable. I met with Sean and I was very impressed with his knowledge, his realistic recommendations and sensitivity to my weight. I walked away with a plan that is design to help me with my pain without having to go the surgical route right now. I have been in pain for almost two years but due to a different doctor telling me that I was just to overweight for him to even consider helping me I stayed away from doctors and have been living in pain with fear that I wasn’t going to be able to be helped. Dr. Wakefield performed surgery on my back in November 2017. I am pain free for the first time in 20 years. The surgery was a major success! Dr. Wakefield was cautious in his approach, first trying less invasive procedures. Only performing surgery as a last resort. He is very professional as well as an excellent surgeon. I thank you, and my family thanks you. However, the front office is poorly managed. But if you can overlook that, you won't be sorry.

Dr. Wakefield and his staff are very caring and provide excellent patient care. Dr. Wakefield explains how your procedure will take place and if he feels that he can not help you to become better for having the surgery he will tell you right up front. I have only good things to say about the care I received... from the front office staff who were warm and welcoming, to the consultation that was thorough, informative, and not rushed in any way; the surgery itself, that was not the awful experience I feared, and was 100% successful; and finally the recovery that was monitored and well managed. Dr. Wakefield, his PA Sean Brennan, and his entire staff, are professional, comfortable to talk with, and really know their stuff! Highly recommended

I just had my latest surgery with Dr Wakefield and I've had a few previous surgeries with him. He has always taken time to explain procedures and options He even rearranged his schedule to fit my surgery in before my insurance changed. I trust Dr Wakefield fully and I recommend him highly. His staff are all friendly and helpful. I put my full trust in him.

I met Lauren, the PA, at Dr Wakefield's office first. She was professional and personable. Being personable and caring is very important to me. Then I met Dr. Wakefield- top notch! He cared about me as a person and listened to my concerns. He did not rush me out of the office. An excellent surgeon! His office staff is excellent also. Professional! I would recommend him to everyone!

In March of 2016, I went to Dr. Wakefield and his assistant Lauren Sawarynski with terrible low back pain and pain running down the back of my left leg. After examining my MRI, Dr. Wakefield told me he could take care of my issues without fusing me. In early August of 2016, Dr. Wakefield operated on me and decompressed my pinched nerve, removed a large bone spur, and widened the canal that my nerve root exited my spine through! My leg pain disappeared immediately and my back is much better!

Dr Wakefield was not a good listener,nor was he thorough. He dismissed the CT Scan that showed neural foraminal narrowing & spurring. "Its just a muscle spasm, this office is not going to help you." It was NOT a muscle spasm at all. Funny how they make $250.00 and we leave no better off. What a waste of time, co-pay to continue to suffer. Some would even call this a malpractice. I left disappointed and again the appointment did not address everything I relayed to him. I then went to Dr Joseph Aferzon who ordered a new MRI of my ENTIREr spine. Turns out, I now have scoliosis, the WORST SPURRING he has ever seen and every lumbar disc is bulging and there ware "too many tears to count". Nucleous pulpous was leaking into my spinal canal causing the worst agony ever. Dr Aferzon sits with you and shows you exactly what is going on. He and Dr Bash preformed a 360 degree fusion with 2 artificial discs. The L-4-5 nerve was frayed! They had to mend it and wrap it during the surgery that took 6 hours. If I had waited any longer, the nerve would have severed and I would be in a WHEELCHAIR. Dr Aferzon did NOT dismiss me. He was thorough and I was the lucky candidate to receive a newly invented, artificial disc,. No more rods and screws! If you want the best, Dr Aferzon and Dr Bash are who to go to. I came to Dr. Wakefield after injuring my back moving furniture. I have had two prior discectomy surgeries (L4/L5; L5/S1) about a decade ago. My mother is an RN who is a perioperative nursing specialist, and told me that Dr. Wakefield came highly recommended by many patients and medical professionals at Hartford Hospital. She could not have been more correct with this suggestion. I was given an appointment two days after my PCP called his office, and was seen right away. I could barely walk, sit, lay down....pretty much in 24/7 agonizing pain. His P.A. Lauren met with me, and said 'I could see the herniation from your MRI from across the room.' I felt validated, and that she understood the pain that I was experiencing. Dr. Wakefield came in, shook my hand, looked me in the eye and explained all of the options that were available to me. He spoke professionally, but did not 'talk down' to me as if I was a child. I elected surgery as I knew that this problem would not go away without it. Dr. Wakefield and Lauren explained what the surgery would entail, prescribed me medications to help me remain somewhat comfortable until the surgery. Dr. Wakefield had me in for surgery the next week which was much faster than expected. Dr. Wakefield and his P.A.'s checked up on me several times in the hospital, and made sure that all of my needs were met. The pain relief was immediate after surgery (despite the actual surgical pain), and was out of the hospital 2 days later. He scheduled me to come in for one week after surgery and then I will be going to a follow up in another 4 weeks. His office took care of my FMLA paperwork without me having to follow up 10 times like I have had to do with other medical offices in the past. I would give '6' stars if I could. When I met him, he had just returned from volunteering for a week in a South American hospital pro bono. Dr. Wakefield is honest, compassionate, experienced, intelligent and the best of the 3 Neurosurgeons that have operated on my spine. I had heard that most spinal surgeons are anxious to just do surgery. Dr. Wakefield took a more cautious approach and first recommended physical therapy to see if that would help. After a couple of months of PT and no relief, I went back to Dr. Wakefield. Full x-rays and MRI of my neck was taken and Dr. Wakefield said that I basically had three options. Do nothing and live with the pain, have a cortisone shot and "kick the can down the road for a couple of years.", or have surgery. I opted for the surgical option. Had the surgery at the beginning of April and although still experiencing some muscle spasms, the neck pain itself is virtually gone and I have regained my range of motion. Also, unless you were closely looking for the scar, you wouldn't be able to find it. Dr. Wakefield and his staff are very friendly and I highly recommend this practice to anyone with spinal issues. One of the most professional and experienced surgeons I have met.Very Conservative which was appreciated. Eventually had surgery after all Conservative treatment failed.. Excellent surgeon and his PA are extremely professional and experienced. Pre and post surgery care was great.

So many people spoke highly of Dr. Wakefield, and was strongly recommended for me to see, even by my orthopedic surgeon. At first they were going to schedule an appointment for me to be seen, but I need to get clarity regarding insurance =. When I called back and resolved the matter, they stated that after reviewing my file it was to complex and they would not schedule an appointment, I was devastated. They did not even give me a chance to meet the doctor, disappointed.

I wouldn't even put one star if I had an option. He shouldn't be a doctor. He doesn't know how to read images at all!! Very Incompetent and lies right to your face. A real doctor looked at same images and said this person should have been in emergency surgery 3 weeks ago otherwise he can be paralyzed !!! Also found out from radiology he didn't even see correct image he only saw wrong part of body !! Karma !
