2 weeks postop total hip replacement for osteoarthritis. 4 sutures removed and waterproof bandage. Everything, from first office visit, scheduling, pre-op appointment, hospital pre-op, surgery, today's postop, Physical therapy and home healthcare at home past 2 weeks, has been 5 star. Every person professional, kind, encouraging, seemed happy doing their part. Dr. Palumbo as surgeon has excelled at eliminating a painful problem hip issue. I appreciate his professionalism, kindness and expertise. I would recommend him to anyone choosing total hip replacement. Thank you, Dr. Palumbo and all involved in my care. I look forward to seeing you again in March to continue postop care. The biggest surprise has been how little pain I've had. I took my pain meds starting on day 2 postop (nerve block pre-surgery) until day 6 or 7. Only extra-strength Tylenol once a day on some days. Amazing and am pleased with this aspect. I could get in and out of bed by day 8 postop. My other hip has severe osteoarthritis too without pain. If I need surgery for that it will be with Dr. Palumbo if he's available.

I'm a general contractor by trade and a horse enthusiast on the weekends. My condition was such I could do neither without great pain. Dr. Palumbo and the staff at Florida Orthopaedic Intstitute not only fixed me, but did so in a most professional and friendly manner. I was made to feel comfortable thru the entire prosses and had all my questions answered along the way. They gave me my active life back and for that I can't thank them enough. I had a knee revision by Dr. Palumbo the end of February 2022. I was lucky he was able to replace just some of the parts. My first replacement was done in 2018, and never right. Because it didn't look loose on xrays the previous surgeon felt it was fine. I could feel it pull apart like the bottom of my leg was coming off, constant pain and swelling. Dr. Palumbo listened to what I was saying. He said he thought he might be able to replace some parts, and not have to do the full revision. I even heard him explain to a physician in training how important it was to listen to a patient like me, where imaging, and physical exam show nothing remarkable. I'm so thankful he felt he could help. He did an amazing job! I was painfree quickly, walking without assistance that night, and it's just improved. That pesky 20 pounds I gained from not being able to walk, has even gone away since I'm mobile again, lol. I haven't had one problem with my new knee. Thank you Dr. Palumbo! I'll be seeing you when my right knee revisionis due.???? Lori Olds I had a knee revision by Dr. Palumbo the end of February 2022. I was lucky he was able to replace just some of the parts. I had a cementless partial knee implant put in October 2021. This was the recommended device by Dr. Palumbo. Well….I really had healing issue. Infection six weeks after that took weeks to get rid of. I obtained full range of motion early on but continued to have inflammation and swelling. I never saw Dr. Palumbo post op the first 5 months. I only saw his nurse practitioner who really blew me off and discharged me after 5 months. I decided to go to a PA in Palumbo’s office. He immediately felt there was a problem. Finally six months later I got in to see Palumbo. I was told he figured out the device he put in was not so good and he was no longer putting them in.He told me he had 3 other failures like me. Palumbo felt there was no need to do Ct scans or MRIs. He would just put in a cemented implant. I decided to get a second opinion. New doc feels I need a total knee from damage from loose fitting implant. Now getting 3rd opinion.

I can`t recommend Dr. Palumbo enough. My hip and pelvis were a painful mess from receiving cancer treatment in my late teens. I needed a total hip replacement in my early 20s. It had to be revised several times (5) over the years because of the poor quality of my bone causing components to fail. I was told by my Mass surgeon, years ago, that because of so much bone loss, there wasn't much they could do so I just lived with the pain. Now, i am in my 50's & live in FL. I saw a doc at a different practice in FL for a pelvic fracture last year (that didn't require surgery), but increased my hip pain dramatically. He said he wouldn't attempt surgery on my left hip & didn't know anyone who would. It was getting harder & harder to do normal everyday things so my activity level dropped & my need for pain medicine increased. I saw Dr. Palumbo who took on my complex case & created a custom hip & pelvis for me. I am 5 months post-op, have zero pain in that hip & back to living!

Dr Palumbo took me through all facets of treatment, including meniscus surgery, to prior to the inevitable - total knee replacement. After the initial shock of hearing those words, he never wavered from the way he is - telling patients what they need to hear versus what they want to hear. He was always forthright, understanding, explained all options in easy to understand language and obviously is knowledgeable about his craft. But mostly, he listened. Listened to my concerns, fears and very importantly how I wanted to manage my life post-replacement. I’m in my early 60s but am extremely active, including running. He told me I could continue running, if I followed specific management elements. Just over a year after replacement, I finished a half marathon. I’m looking for more miles and more adventures now that I’m able to move more freely and without the searing pain I experienced before the surgery. Was it hard? Yes. Was I told how things would go every step of the process - and to completely follow the process? Yes. Was what I heard from Dr Palumbo and what came to pass the same thing? Yes. And was he professional in every facet? Yes. Dr Palumbo took me through all facets of treatment, including meniscus surgery, to prior to the inevitable - total knee replacement. A decent, ethical surgeon must be able to thoroughly provide realistic expectations, discuss risks, and must be able to assist you through any complications. Palumbo does none of these things. Instead he over promises benefits, does not explain risks, and refuses to see his patients once the surgery is done. My friend received a partial knee implant from Dr. Brian Palumbo. He pushed the partial knee implant like it was a miracle cure. He declared it better than the total knee implant. He said not only do you heal much faster, but the implant is anchored to the bone instead of being cemented, which means it has a longer life span and you can have a more active lifestyle. He even said it was better than a total knee implant. After getting the partial implant, my friend didn’t heal. In fact, weeks after the surgery, the pain was worse than it was before the surgery. My friend was plagued with instability, needing a cane for stabilization. How did Brian Palumbo correct this error? He cancelled all future appointments. He cancelled my friend’s appointment a week before forcing her to call back and reschedule and then a week before the rescheduled appointment he cancelled again. And again. The hold time on the phone to make an appointment is about 40 minutes. So now picture yourself in tremendous pain, and the only person who can help you, the actual surgeon, is doing everything in his power to avoid seeing you. Her medical records he wrote that he went over the apparent risks of a partial knee implant, which include persistent pain and instability. He never did this at all. After seeking the help of other doctors, they explained that a partial knee implant should never have been offered because the arthritis in my friend’s knee wasn’t localized. You can see it in the X-rays and MRI. Palumbo didn’t even remove all the arthritis, which means the surgery was for nothing. Unfortunately, we didn’t learn until after the surgery, that Brian Palumbo had been sued for completing a partial knee implant on the wrong side of a person’s knee, and he had been sued for inflicting drop foot on some of his patients. These are mistakes that any astute and skillful surgeon would have avoided. You can see a record of his lawsuits in the Florida Department of Insurance Regulation here: (https://apps.fldfs.com/PLCR/Search/MPLClaim.aspx). This is public knowledge. As for Florida Orthopaedic Institute, they not only keep employing Brian Palumbo, but they offer no security for your medical records. They exposed the medical information of 150,000 patients. See here for more info: (https://www.classaction.org/news/florida-orthopaedic-institute-hit-with-class-action-over-april-2020-data-breach). My advice is to avoid Brian Palumbo and Florida Orthopaedic at all costs. They only care about making money. Once your surgery is complete, they dispose of you.

Nothing worse than a practitioner that does not take the time to listen and speak with a patient. Arrogance in this way causes mistakes and negative outcomes for the patient but exacerbated when documentation is false after an adverse event. Do no harm should always be at the center of care.

This is not specific to Dr Palumbo - already left a review on his poor service. This is about the Florida Orthopedic Institute (FOI) Billing dept. as it relates to Radiology (MRI ) services. A family member required an MRI - our insurance information was provided and we asked for the cost and were told the estimate was $ 100. We paid $100 at the time of service as were told the cost would be. Now FOI has sent us a bill for $494 for a total cost of $594.

Since I recently moved to FL, I used reviews exclusively to select my doctor (Dr Palumbo). The (left hip replacement) surgery was a success, but more importantly, the group is integrated and communicative. Pre-op and post-op appointments are scheduled. PT is coordinated and preapproval is requested from the insurance company. The operation was during the Covid pandemic and I arrived at the surgery center at 6:00AM, operated on at 7:00AM and walking out the door 11:00 AM. I met with Dr Palumbo once but he answered all of the questions that I had. He also called the day after surgery to ensure everything was ok. His RN, Erica Franklin is also very personable and communicative and who I interacted with during my pre-op and post-op meetings. I made the right decision to have the surgery and who was to perform it. After 3 weeks, I was walking without a cane and able to drive again. I have been a patient of Dr. Brian Palumbo for the past 3 years because of problems with my right knee experienced during high-impact, bootcamp style workouts. The first year Dr. Palumbo treated my injured knee with cortisone injections and I had no problems with my knee for several months. When I returned just last week, I discovered the treatment had lasted for an entire year! Prior to being treated, my knee buckled and was very painful each time I attempted to stand or walk. I could not walk without both a knee brace and a cane. A week later, I am able to walk again without a knee brace or a cane, and I'm no longer in pain thanks to Dr. Palumbo's care as a patient at Florida Orthopaedic Institute. Dr. Palumbo demonstrated an unprofessional bedside/office manner to my Mom. The Quality department got involved, and all I asked was for him to apologize. He refused. As a surgical nurse that has worked with many great ortho surgeons in Tampa, I am not recommending this one based on how he treated my mother.

Dr. Palumbo maybe a good surgeon, but he demonstrated an unprofessional bedside/office manner to my Mom, so much so, that the Quality department got involved, and all I asked was that he apologize to her, and he refused. Had my 2nd. knee replacement this past month. My experiences with the 1st knee replacement caused me to have him do the 2nd one and I was not disappointed! As a matter of fact it was better in as much as the hospital Advent Health (carrolwood). Dr. was very direct in his instructions along with providing ample prescription to address a swelling after the procedure which quickly corrected my issue. time in hospital was reduced to same day which was reduced from previous process. Well satisfied with Dr. Palumbo BUT hope not to see him in the near future!!

Having just recently purchased a home in Citrus Hills (coming from Minneapolis), I wanted to get my left hip replacement surgery in Florida and was diligent in locating a exceptionally qualified and highly rated orthopedic surgeon and, boy, did I find the right one in Dr. Palumbo! From my perspective, based on my pre/post operative experiences, he has mastered the anterior approach using the Hanna table which, from what I understand is the least invasive and most efficient procedure for hip replacements. I'm 16 days post-op and am up and walking very well, minimal pain... everything I could have hoped for has been realized to date. I highly recommend Dr. Palumbo and his team at Wesley Chapel as well as the quality of service at the AdventHealth Carrollwood Hospital in Tampa - a very personalized, professional and experienced support staff.

Dr Palumbo was the surgeon for my total hip replacement in December 2019. I had pre- and post-surgery appointments. I highly recommend him. All was explained in advance by the dr and his PA. Post surgery the pain I had for 2 years was gone. No prescription meds were needed. It felt like a miracle, but it was his expertise that made my life normal again!

Dr. Palumbo was Excellent. He immediately diagnosed my condition and gave me a recommendation for how to repair the damage done by another surgeon that performed a knee surgery just 2 years earlier, that kept me in pain until I contacted Dr. Palumbo. I recommend him highly and will return to him as soon as my current surgery has healed to repair my other knee. Well Done Dr. Palumbo!

After 3 years of shots that did nothing in my left knee. I decided to change doctors. A friend who is in the medical field gave me Dr. Palumbo's name. I went to see him and he immediately showed me my x-rays and ask if I was up for a knee replacement. I said yes. The care I was given by his office and him was excellent. Now 8 weeks later, my scares if fading and I am walking better then I have in 3 years. All those years was wasted with shots. I am glad I found Dr. Palumbo and his office.

Dr Palumbo recently performed a hip revision for me. I had a leg length discrepancy, one leg was shorter than another. I walked with a limp and could no longer just walk normally. I am so happy that I made the decision to have the surgery. This was my fourth surgery, three other surgeries by two other drs. Just saying thank you doesn’t seem quite enough. My feet are now the same length. I’m feel so happy and grateful. In other words, if you need an orthopedic surgeon Dr Palumbo in my opinion is the only doctor you should see.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr. Palumbo, he has changed the quality of my life.In 2017 I was diagnosed with severe Osteo Arthritis and he has performed each of my 4 needed joint replacement surgeries since 2017- hip, 2018-knee, 2019-knee, and 2020 (just 3 weeks ago) my right hip! He is professional, kind, and most of all he is a brilliant surgeon with great post surgery protocol that has allowed me to recover quickly and with very little pain and no complications each time. No one looks forward to having surgery, but I was confident after each surgery that I was going to be the best I could be. Even my primary care physician said that she had never seen patients recover from joint surgeries as successfully as I have. She credits Dr. Palumbo’s skill, after care and expertise. I totally agree! I thank God for him and highly recommend him as the best surgeon in Tampa!

I was very pleased with my knee replacement that I had 6 weeks ago from Dr Palumbo. At 6 weeks I have very little pain and measure 131 degrees and am discharged from PT. I haven’t used a cane since 3 1/2 weeks out. It’s so wonderful to be able to walk again without any pain. He was wonderful! I also liked his PA’s and Medical assistant, Soily. She was absolutely wonderful for scheduling and help with all that is going on with Covid.

Dr. Palumbo I give a 4.9 and that’s only because of his case load and wait times. Office staff I give a 2. Numerous calls to his office with emails to his staff with no call back or acknowledgement of having received a request to call me for scheduling. I was in pain for 30 years but after surgery on Thursday I was on a cane and pain free in 8 days. 12 days from knee replacement I’m walking 2-3 miles a day without any type of assistive device. I recommend without reservation but do hope the office staff can get things together.

Hi, my name is Nolkis Pelier, I am 77 y/o. Two years ago, I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis. My knees hurt so much that I could barely walk. In 2018 my orthopaedic surgeon in Puerto Rico oriented me that I would need two total knee replacements but only one could be done at a time. So, I had a left total knee replacement in February 2018 in Puerto Rico. The surgery went smooth and It took me about 3 months to recover and walk half normally because I still had my other knee under pain. I found it to be quick compared to friends that had the same surgery, it took them about 6 months to recover. Since I moved to Florida in 2019, I had to find another orthopaedic surgeon for my right knee. By searching online for an orthopaedic surgeon in Tampa, Dr. Brian T. Palumbo’s profile caught my attention. He specializes in total knee replacement and had very good reviews. I went ahead and scheduled an appointment with Dr. Palumbo. My experience at the doctor’s office was exceptional. The whole staff: secretaries, nurses, B. Wicker P.A. and Dr. B. Palumbo where very caring and professional. Dr. Palumbo oriented me of the options I had for my total knee replacement. One of the options was a total knee implant that is custom made to fit each patient’s unique anatomy. They do this by having a 3D CT-SCAN done to your knee and later creating an implant to fit your size and anatomy. That’s the one I chose. One week before the surgery I had an orientation at the hospital regarding how to prepare for surgery and what to expect after surgery, which I found very helpful. In the morning of September 10th, 2019, I had my surgery at Tampa’s Advent Health Hospital. In the afternoon, I was able to walk with the assistance of a physical therapist. The next day, I had physical therapy at the hospital and walked the whole ward twice with my physical therapist. Later, I was discharged from the hospital. During my short stay at the hospital all the personnel were courteous and caring. For two weeks I had physical therapy at home. Then, twice a week for 4 weeks at Dr. Palumbo’s physical therapy facilities in Wesley Chapel. I can fully extend my leg and I can bend it 120 degrees. Right now, I am walking without pain and I only use a cane to feel secured. I feel a minor discomfort when I am laying down on my bed, but the doctor said that it should go away soon, eventually… I am happy that my recovery was quick and with minimal pain. I can resume my normal life thanks to Dr. Brian Palumbo and all the people involved in the process. God bless them all...! Hi, my name is Nolkis Pelier, I am 77 y/o.
