Dr. Charles D Garner

The one star is only for the fact that his nurse, Kendall, is wonderful. He has reminded me that I should ALWAYS get a second opinion. ???????? UPDATE: 1 full year now after Dr. Garner removed a non life threatening mass from my mother's sacrum area. He threw his hands up in the air at me saying he couldn't do anything to help my mom, describing her as a "70 something year old chain smoking woman who only weighs 70 pounds". He certainly didn't mind doing the surgery, but once he collected his fees, he suddenly couldn't help with ANYTHING. That was the first time I found out what she truly weighed. Being a paralyzed amputee you can't get weighed at most doctors. As I cried due to his bravado and lack of concern or empathy....he said "I guess I can refer her to an orthopedist". Obviously an orthopedist does not specialize in the treatment of large open wounds at the fault of a general surgeon. That night I got her an appointment right away at South Strand Wound Care w/ Dr. John Charles. I also got a nutritionist, and pulmonologist. She was diagnosed with what is likely lung cancer, she was to frail to do a biopsy to even confirm though. She hasn't eaten actual food since Dr. Garner's unnecessary procedure was performed. YET... 1 year later, here she is now just under 100 pounds, and still gaining. Her wound has almost totally healed, and she's thriving rather than barely surviving. When a doctor tells you your loved one will never recover, find another doctor. Even if what Dr. Garner said was true, he needs to remember his oath, ya know the "do no harm part". We would have never had to spend an entire year healing his surgical site had he thought more about the person in front of him instead of his tee time. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD we cant get appointment set up with this company who was referred to us by the hospital. The first appointment was cancelled by Winyah because the doctor was out of town and wouldn't be back in time for the pre-scheduled appointment. the 2nd attempt was cancelled on our end due to patient being too sick to go. Now the third appointment takes the cake. We have to transfer bed to bed. I informed the scheduler that it costs $500 out of pocket in advance to transport and wanted to make sure all the Is were dotted and Ts crossed. She informed me that there would have to be someone to stay with patient and I made sure she understood we would have someone there to wait with patient that was getting brought in. I told them the transport company would drop her off and then pick her up when appointment was complete. I specifically asked, "do you have the capacity to handle this bed to bed?" the response from the scheduler was absolutely as long as there was someone there to wait with patient. I called at 1pm to confirm that everything was set to move forward for 2pm appointment and was told that all was good to go. Transport called and told me they were bringing her back and that I had to reschedule. Transport driver said the nurse laughed when they came in saying the doctor was not in because he got called to hospital. She laughed. When I spoke with her she said I could use someone else if I was not happy. She also said they had no where for her to wait because they would need the transport company to leave their gurney and they were unwilling to leave it. The nurse told me they could not strap her in anywhere therefore she could not wait on the doctor to return and she also could not see anyone else. She said its the governments fault for having all these restrictions and there was nothing she could do. I was told yesterday that if we missed the appointment, we would get charged a $50 cancellation fee. I'm wondering if the patient can charge them a $500 cancellation fee. I received excellent care from Dr. deHaas. Mildred was a blessing to me. When I called she got me right in to see Dr deHaas. He was so kind and compassionate. All of the staff were awesome. This is a great office to work with.

Dr Garner was very thorough with my medical record and explained in detail my upcoming surgery. His staff was very friendly and helpful. I felt relaxed and confident in the care I was receiving.

Dr. deHaas is outstanding. I had the same surgery 6 years ago. Having no basis for comparison back then I assumed my previous surgeon did a fine. I was mistaken. The difference between how I feel and look after after Dr. deHaas fixed my stomach is night and day. If I ever need stomach surgery (or anything else he does), Dr. deHaas is my choice. This was my first visit to see Dr. Garner. He took a tremendous amount of time to explain to me what his diagnosis was and why. He even took the time to show me the C/T scan and explained his reasoning. He was very thorough and professional throughout the process. Dr Garner doesn't rush through his exams with you, he listens very patiently to what you have to say and answers your questions thoroughly. He explains things very well and in a way that is easily understood. My wife and I both feel very confident in his care We both had hernia repair surgery by him and all went well. Initial appointment was 1:30 minutes and never saw the Dr. Left me in the waiting room for 40 minutes. Asked receptionist how much longer would it be? Shortly thereafter nurse put me in an exam room. 40 minures later after have no contact with anyone, not asked if I needed anything, not telling me Dr may be running late. So I left the room. It was what I expect from a hospital. Clean, good communication, knowledgeable - friendly staff, on time. I felt I was taken care of the moment I got there till I left. I am doing much better post surgery than I expected.
