Charles Leahy

I have been going to Dr. Leahy for 6 or 7 years now, and he has always treated me well. He has responded with many innovative solutions to my various problems with dry eyes and contact lenses. I believe he is the smartest Ophthalmologist I've ever met. The staff at Stoneham MEEI are also very polite although often dealing with a crowd of people, some impatient with waiting to see the real eye doctors here that are much better than the ones at the mall who may be faster, but hardly as good.

Following my March 21st appointment with Charles D. Leahy, which was to trial contact lenses specially developed for glaucoma patients, I was left feeling immensely disappointed with his lack of professionalism and attitude. Upon entering his practice, which was dark and did not reflect the quality of a proper optometrist’s office, I attempted to tell him a little bit about the condition and history of my eyes, but he did not let me get a word in, often interrupting and asking demeaning questions of me (one of the questions he asked me was if I knew what YouTube is). When it came time to trial the lenses, I struggled to place them in my eyes since he placed the mirror on a low table in his office. The position of the mirror was completely impractical, and I had to bend over awkwardly and, because of my glaucoma and the darkened room, struggled to place the contacts in my eyes correctly. When I couldn't place the contacts in my eyes quickly enough for his liking, he became frustrated and shouted instructions at me, as if I were a child. I kept repeating to him that I am vision-impaired, glaucoma-afflicted patient and could not place the contacts in my eyes without him moving the mirror to a more adequate height. Finally, upon leaving his practice, I was told at the front-desk that I would need to pay $150. He and his staff never told me how much the trial would cost at any point during my visit. I would have appreciated knowing how much the co-pay was before the visit. In summary, I am truly shocked and disturbed that a well-respected and high-ranking doctor could treat a patient so poorly. I share this review in the hopes that others who may have had similar humiliating experiences with Charles D. Leahy are aware that they are not alone. Completely dissatisfied

Dr. Leahy does a great job tweaking my prescriptions for contacts and eye glasses computer work. He’s the best refractor I’ve ever had.

Dr. Leahy was very knowledgeable and able to answer all my questions. He was personable, listened well and explained what I should expect with my improved eye sight. Thanks to him, I am able to use mono vision as an option when wearing contacts.

Great doctor with a wonderful demeanor. He’s an expert on contact lens fittings, exactly what I needed.

Dr. Leahy is absolutely the best at fitting an hard contact lens on my eye which has a corneal graft and multiple shunts.

very competent and sfficient

This is an excellent doctor and educator. I would definitely recommend him to family and friends. This was my first visit. I felt I was in great hands. He was extremely thorough and good communicator. He asked many questions and took plenty of time to examine, properly assess and diagnose a progressive condition. I never felt rushed. He offered education, feedback and resources and answered all my questions graciously. Also made sure I understood proper care of lenses. I strongly recommend this doctor. I am so glad I booked this appointment.
