I haven’t had my surgery yet but the process is thorough. I m feeling better with my sleep and staff is very helpful. Just waiting for Dr to recover.

IM NOT HAPPY WITH THIS OFFICE AT ALL I WENT THERE FOR A CONSULT FOR MY PANCEREAS AND ALL THEY COULD DO IS SEND ME TO SHANDS HOSPITAL TO GET FURTHER LOOKING AT BUT WHEN I CALLED SHANDS MULTIPLE TIMES TO SEE IF THEY GOTTEN THE REFERRAL NOT GOTTEN IT THIS OFFICE SAID THEY SENT OVER ON THE 10TH THE FIRST TIME THE NEXT DAY I CALLED TO SEE IF THEY SENT IT OVER AGAIN THEY HAD NO NOTES OF THE CALL OF YESTERDAY . Dr. Birkedal is a Maverick of Mavericks, a real Top Gun of a surgeon! I liked how he explained my procedure, and then because of his skills, my recovery was very quick. I highly recommend him!

Dr. Birkedal is a genius. He has the ability to calm your nerves and educates you in a way everyone can understand. He truly cares for his patients and I cannot thank him enough for giving me a new lease on life.

Dr Birkedal performed gastric sleeve procedure and hernia repair on me in 2014. I cannot possibly find the words 2 express my appreciation and my satisfaction in every aspect of my journey in this forum. Thanks to this gifted doctor, my life has been totally changed. In the first year I lost 175 pounds and have kept it off. My sight loss due to diabetic retinopathy ceased to progress and, although I was told it would not happen by every ophthalmologist I saw, my vision did improve. I did not suffer any further effects from diabetes going forward, however, 20 years of ignoring my disease did do its damage. In addition to the sight loss, and I have had numerous amputations including one above the knee amputation of my right leg. I want to stress that my complications had everything to do with damages I allowed to happen long before I ever met Dr. Birkedal. Being morbidly obese destroyed the great portion of my life. I could barely walk. I had extreme pain ecezrywhere. My husband had not touched me in 12 years. I was barely able to work, was incapable of keeping my home in decent condition, and was embarrassed by the stairs of other shoppers when I tried to venture out. I was ashamed and disgusted with myself. The associated depression was the worst part. This led me to 20 years of alcoholism. I was killing myself.and didn't even realize it because Mike was so miserable for me that death seems like it would be welcome relief. Afraid to even seek medical care because I felt that my inability to lose the weight meant that I wasn't worth saving. Then, a miracle happened. My sight loss oh, what happened very rapidly, shocked me into looking for help. The care received from my primary care physician combined with the counseling and subsequent surgery performed by Dr. Birkedal allowed me to regain my self-confidence and take control of my life. I left a bad marriage of 25 years, moved out of the state, and renewed a relationship with the love of my life who I hadn't seen in 35 years. Had I not had this wonderful care, fabulous results, and life changing attitude adjustment, I surely would not have survived these last 5 years. I live a wonderful Life in spite of my limitations due to my limb loss and, contrary to what I previously believed, I am loved and I am worthy. It's my belief that God puts special people in our path who will make it possible for us to survive what life has in-store for us. This doctor is truly one of very special people. I recently opened a box from my storage room which contained some of my old clothes. I could not believe the size 5x pants which were tied on me before my surgery were actually garments that I wore. A tentmaker would have been proud, but I wasn't. My wonderful fiance laughed and show me a different way to look at it. I and no longer ashamed. I'm proud that I have come so far. My clothes are no longer ordered through fat lady catalogs. I can buy right off the rack in a regular store. There are no X's attached to my size. I want everybody erase this to know how great it feels 2 want to do a backflip in the middle of a store when you realize that the size you just put on only had a single digit in it. I went in not sure if I wanted to do this or not. Doc didn’t push me he said let me just give you the info and you make up your own mind. His approach shocked me. I decided to get the sleeve and it was the best life choice I have ever made. The staff, nutritionist everyone on his team was completely amazing. I would go back with no hesitation. Henia repair repair. He fixed a mesh that had failed. Thank you Dr. B and Tammy (PA).

He explained nothing. At my last post op visit for Hernia repair he did not even come into the room. At another visit when I only saw the RNP not the doctor, I asked about this when I saw him in the hallway, he replied she has been with him for 15 years and he trusts her. Later my concern proved true when if seen by the doctor he would have noticed a seroma, she failed to do so, His RNP examined me, at the last post op visit, when I asked her about an unusual swelling and pain she said it was normal and would not last long. After 3 weeks I saw another surgeon he did a CT scan and said I had a seroma and had to have a drain inserted. This caused me 3 weeks of additional pain and a huge additional co-pay.

I think Dr. Birkedal and his staff are wonderful! Fighting weight issues most of my adult life, now I'm healthier and happier thanks to their care. They are patient and reassuring.

Dr. Birkedal is wonderful I have had several surgeries by him, I would highly recommended him and his team, Tammy is awesome.. they are very thorough in everything.. I would go under the knife with pure confidence in him and the team..

Dr Birkedahl and his group may have saved my life. I found the doctor to be very direct, and caring. Dr Birkedahl explained everything he was going to do to my wife and me. My wife was against me having this surgery, after her meeting with Dr B, she was all for it. The crew there makes you feel very welcome and are sympathetic to why you are there. Katie and Lauren walked me thru everything and explained how my body would react to changes in my diet. I am not a big fan of how chemical and proteins work, it is over my head. Gallbladder removal. Outstanding Dr. Very focused and gifted. No pain! What a tremendous experience! When I first got out I had some trapped gas A burp and I was perfect.i am so happy. The nurses I spoke with said his patients have the best recovery! Yes I did!! Very grateful Dr. Birkedal!

Really not sure what happened...Dr. Birkedal removed enlarged lymph gland being suspicious of lymphoma because I was in extreme pain and had sudden weight loss of 8lbs in 2 weeks. I was told prior to consider a possible internal hernia. I had 3 E.R. visits at Florida Memorial which was total nightmare all before Birkedal operated. Bottom line..lymph node was benign and I never was told or followed up what caused all the pain and sickness.

I owe my life to this wonderful doctor!! Thank you, Dr. B!!!

Dr. Birkedal is amazing. I had a total Thyroidectomy/Parathyroid removal and an Axillary Mass under my left arm on May 26th, 2016.He made me feel so comfortable before and after surgery. Dr. Birkedal is a very kind, caring, man. Awesome personality making me and my family very comfortable. His staff at the office and hospital are amazing also.

Was warned by GP not to use him for Gallbladder surgery, but due to ER situation, was assigned him for surgery as my choice surgeon was out of town during the emergency.. Birkedal Botched the surgery, sent me home without even seeing me in the hospital and ended up with 3 more ER visits, large drainage bag for 10 days, 4 CT-Scans due to najor leaking and then TWELVE WEEKS of Infectious Disease doctor care to handle rare E-Coli infection..

Horrible experience: He is very enigmatic, poor surgeon, left me with grotesque hernias and did not remove tumors.
