He may be a good surgeon, but he is a complete a-hole. I have to say that he was one of the most arrogant, most condescending doctors that I have ever met. In fact, he meets the very definition: If you call someone condescending, it means that you disapprove of the way they talk or act because it comes off like they think they are better than or superior to other people. Many people find condescending behavior to be a turn off. This is Dr. Kim and this is what you can expect when you go to Ortho Virginia.
One of the most arrogant doctors that I have ever encountered, he was rude and lacked a great deal of communication skills. He didn't explain anything and acted like he was to good to be in the same room as us. I do not like this guy. And I would not recommend him.
I saw him years ago with my son. I felt exactly how the other 1 star reviews were written. This is what Army Doctors are like. Cold and dismissive.

Dr Kim has NO compassion for children!!! This is what Dr. Kim posted on my chart: Follow-up: Return if symptoms worsen or fail to improve. Due to the fact that the mother does not appear to be able to handle the child's pain and the child appears to be somewhat ill I will have the patient go to the emergency room. I have spoken with the same areas pediatric emergency room physician. My son was diagnosed with leukemia later that night. Dr Kim said he thought the pain was viral and was trying to just send my 11year old son home. My son’s pain was so Extreme!!! The first office visit he maybe said 10 words to me I had to ask for him to come back and speak with me after my child’s X-ray showed abnormalities. (he seemed annoyed he said to speak with me) Dr. Kim diagnosed my son with having a stress fracture in his hip. But unfortunately was later diagnosed with leukemia. Dr Kim you need to spend more time with your patients!!!!! And listen to them!!!!

Very rude. Waste of time. He wasn’t in there very long. Never again will I go back there.
Would have given him 5 stars , except that during the consult seemed in a hurry, wasn't expecting a pep talk but would have wanted a more humane approach.
Very good and timely, doctor was extremely helpful definitely recommend
This is the 3rd time Aiden has seen Dr. Kim, each time he has been on courteous, knowledgeable & helpful. He's willing to help you understand what's going on & what needs to happen.
Dr. Kim was wonderful to work with. He spoke to my teenager like a grown up and had very pleasant bedside manner. Exceptional expertise and professionalism. Highly recommend.
This man is obviously intelligent and instead of using that to continue to help people he has gotten cocky, arrogant and lacks overall manners. He does not take the time to walk parents through anything, asked me "what happened" in my pregnancy to cause my daughter to have issues, instead of focusing on my daughter and the issue at hand. I already gave a complete medical history so if you had bothered to read the chart such a rude approach wouldn't have been necessary. Made no attempt to understand my child with disabilities just wanted to mouth off about what he knew and how I possibly couldn't know anything. I would never recommend him to anyone. A very smart orthopedic doctor with zero patience or understanding for neurodiverse kids. If your kid is 'normal', I'm sure he is great. He spent our appointment yelling at my anxious kid for not talking or having the ability to respond in a timely, quick manner.
Dr. Kim has been amazing. We love him!!
Our son broke 2 bones in his forearm playing a school sport. The athletic trainer set up an appointment at VCU, but Dr. Kim was recommended to us by the ER PA and a close friend, also a PA. So we went to both consults. VCU wanted to perform an ORIF, but Dr. Kim performed an intramedullary nailing. A much better procudure. The surgery was shorter, with less trauma to the area. Reading reviews, it looked like Dr. Kim was low ranked bc of personality rather than ability, but the VCU doctor was high ranked, bu bc of personality. Which makes me wonder about these ratings. BTW, I did not witness any personality flaws in Dr. Kim. He was knowledgable, had prepared for the consult, and was very pleasant and nice. Maybe this doctor is overworked but his bedside manner is seriously lacking. We were referred to him by our PCP. His attitude was short and dismissive, almost as if he’s challenging what you’re telling him you’re feeling. My 12 year old even picked up on the mood (he asked if the doctor was upset with him). Barely greeted us upon walking into the room, looked stunned when I told him we were here for a second opinion because my son was misdiagnosed and still in a lot of pain. He took a second X-ray and didn’t say much other than he sees “something”. He ordered an MRI and we did get back some unwanted findings but overall, I left the appt more worried than anything. We are now waiting for the office to send paperwork for a new doctor and have been waiting since Monday and making multiple phone calls back and forth to get the appt scheduled between the two offices. I feel like they have made a weak attempt at getting the appt scheduled. I would not recommend Dr. Kim.

Taken to Chippenham hospital for surgery on broken leg. Dr Kim did a great job, inserted plates around the ankle, feeling good. Thank you Dr Kim!

Dr. Kim spent less than 5 minutes with my child and me. He didn’t include me in the plan of care. I called, leaving a voice mail with questions, and no one called back. Then at another appointment (I should’ve known not to see him again), he miscast my child, and we had to seek ortho care from a different practice on the SAME day to fix the improperly fitted cast that left my child with skin breakdown and Inability to move—horrible experience very frustrating and traumatic for all.

Excellent attention to detail. Great bedside manner with the patient.
My grandson had a 8:30 a.m. appointment this morning. It us 10 a.m. and we have not been seen or called to the exam room. When inquired as to where we were on the list, the front office girl was extremely rude and stated I can't check. Our system is down and we are behind. She snapped this response. This is totally unacceptable during Covid times to be expected to sit in a crowded waiting room. They should have informed the patients of the problem and gave them the option to reschedule. Grateful for Dr. Kim. He completed surgery on my upper femur and mid due to a fall. Wait was long; however, due to the type of break O was switched to Dr. Kim and so far so great. Still in early recovery, but pleased. He answered questions, showed me follow up x-ray. Love that they have the technology that allows you to see your own notes & comments from Dr. Read some reviews saying he wasn't personnel....keep in mind we all have different personalities and raised differently (homes & cultures). He was personable & listened, no complaints. Due to this being start of recovery (3 recoveryweeks post op), only 4 stars so far. Grateful for Dr. Kim. My son has been seeing Dr. Kim since 2019. I appreciate Dr. Kim’s concern and caution with my son’s spine problems. The fact that Dr. Kim is willing to wait and watch what happens as my son grows and he didn’t rush us into a spine surgery makes me feel very comfortable bringing my son back for check ins.

Wonderful practice and the best surgeon in town!
He has been our orthopedic doctor for many year , we love and trust him. Great doctor !!
Had known of Dr.Kim prior to my surgery. Great doctor. Was very thorough in explaining what would take place during surgery and what would follow. Him, his staff, and the folks at OrthoVirginia have been outstanding.
We love Dr. Kim and his PA Kacie! The office staff is very friendly and accomodating. The only thing I truly wish was different was the amount of visit time, it feels like you are always being rushed off with little information leading to your next appt.
Dr. Christopher Kim performed my bunionectomy and did a fabulous job! He is attentive, answers all of ypur questions thoroughly, and provides the best medical care. The same goes for his team. Highly recommend!
Most amazing doctor. Very clear and precise in his explanation.
Dr. Kim is not only a well studied and trustworthy doctor, he has a great rapport with his young patients (and their parents). He guided us through 8-plate surgery with our 13 year old daughter and recently diagnosed our son’s sprained knee. OrthoVirginia’s brace fitters are great (thanks, Sarah!) and knowledgeable and their therapy department is “in house” and accessible. We are big fans of OrthoVirginia and Dr. Kim. I wouldn’t hesitate to highly recommend Dr. Kim to anyone who needs orthopedic care, most especially pediatric.
I'm surprised he chose this field. His bedside manner was dreadful and he couldn't get out of the room quickly enough. My 7 year old had a neck injury and he showed zero empathy or interest. He merely looked at her x-rays and gave her an Rx and walked out without even examining or touching her neck which was frozen in place with a huge swollen area on the back (he wouldn't have known without touching her). I was chasing him out the door asking if he wanted to see her turn her head? How much motrin? How often? We came back for a 2nd opinion the next day and received a proper exam and a COMPLETELY different treatment plan.
Dr. Christopher Kim is top notch in both skill and manner. He is a doctor who listens. He thoughtfully considers and honors requests whenever possible...always seeking the best for his patients. In addition, I would give all of the great and kind staff at OrthoVirginia 5 stars.
His accounting staff is completely incompetent and accept no responsibility for their actions in not sending a bill to insurance correctly. They wait over 4 years to take action so that you no longer have documents to prove their ignorance. So after 4 years the bill is now triple the amount and they just basically say "not our problem" and you are literally forced to pay. You should be ashamed of yourself Dr Kim! I hate to give Dr Kim all the weight of the bad review but displeased is an understatement. My son fractured his foot and had our follow up scheduled with Ortho on call. Dr Kim was in the room for 3 min or less, told me he looked at the X-ray and it just looked bruised, even after the ortho on call doctor showed my husband the X-ray and it was CLEARLY fractured. I paid $50 for him to come in and tell me to have my son wear the boot out of the home for 2 weeks and come back then for another follow up. He barley said his goodbyes and then his assistant came in with a pre-scheduled next appointment for a day/time that did not work. I walked out to front off to cancel and they could not help me. I had to call the number on the piece of paper and bet put thru a prompt. 10 min of my life, I'll never get back later.. was able to cancel. I'm not a MD but WebMD or just common senseI could of given a better "care plan" than what we received at $50! Dr. Kim seems like a knowledgeable clinician, but his demeanor is less than friendly. He was very short with us and seemed irritated during both our visits. He made both me and my teenage daughter feel uncomfortable. He is not personable at all! Furthermore, Dr. Kim diagnosed my child with a small stress fracture but then changed his story after her CT scan to say she didnt have any fracture. When I asked for clarification, he was condescending. He was also condescending about how long it had taken me to get her scan, not taking into account the outbreak of COVID-19 or the fact that HIS office would not return my calls to assist with scheduling the scan. Dr Kim is a top notch surgeon. I received excellent, efficient care. He is quick and to the point in speaking. I would give him a 5 star rating, if he would reach out to shake his patient’s hand!

Professional and nice staff.. Clean facility, easy to communicate with and friendly. Thank u
Perfect experience! All of my questions answered, no long wait in the lobby; nothing but courteous staff at front desk, X-ray and in exam room!
Dr. Kim took great care of our daughter. I can also say Kacie Alexander, P.A. is amazing. They make a great team!
Dr. Kim treated our son with a broken wrist. His care from surgery till he got the cast off was outstanding. I would highly recommend him to anyone in need of a pediatric orthopedic surgeon.
I was nervous that my son wouldn’t cooperate. But Dr. Kim and his staff took great care of my son. They tried their best to keep him calm while applying his cast to his arm. (He’s only 2, so the lollipop didn’t last him too long...but it was a good try) He provided clear instructions on how to care for the cast. Our appointment was at 8:30. We were registered, took x-rays, saw Dr Kim, had the cast applied, given a follow up appointment and sent on our way by 9:15. I was nervous that my son wouldn’t cooperate. 10 years ago Dr. Kim operated on my ankle and hips after finding an issue that had been causing me pain that many other doctors couldn’t.. As others have said he doesn’t talk much but he’s a great doctor. If you want someone to talk to you, go hire a therapist.. But if you want a really good doctor who knows what he’s doing and will help you through surgery and recovery, go to this man. Really good guy, and better Surgeon.
Most arrogant dr I've ever been to. He talked down to me and my father as if to try to make us feel dumb. Spent very little time with us. Worst experience I've ever had at dr appt by far!
Dr. Kim was very professional, great bedside manner !
NO beside manner. Rushed through the appt. I will never take my child back to him.
Dr. Kim and his assistant Kacie are amazing as always! My son has been through 2 survey's with them. I just took him back because of another issue. I will continue to go to them. They are very professional and make you feel comfortable all at the same time. Highly recommend them.
We have had several visits with Dr. Kim and have always found him friendly and efficient.
I saw Dr. Kim for hip and back pain.
My 10 year old daughter was referred by her pediatrician to orthopedics as she had been experiencing arm pain and they could feel a couple of bumps in both arms. Dr Kim walked into the room with a rude attitude, didn't even take time to greet or make eye contact with my daughter. My daughter started to tell him the symptoms and show him where the pain was located, he then laughed at my child in desbelief stating that he couldn't feel anything as if we were wasting his time. He made my child very uncomfortable with his rudeness to the point where she asked me if the doctor was "upset" with her,and I just had to tell her that maybe he is having a bad day. His tone of voice, body language, and comments during the consultation made it seem as if he didn't really wanted to examine my child. The whole consultation was rushed. I would not recommend Dr. Kim to anyone specially to children. I've never met such a rude doctor with little compassion and respect for patients.
I have been diagnosed with scoliosis for three years. When I was first sent to Dr. Kim, I was very anxious because I didn’t understand, but he made my parents and I feel better.

Very poor. Outside my daughter's door he said "let's see if they actually went to patient first and got an xray." Dr. Kim then walks into the room and asks to look at daughter's thumb. I tell him we did get xrays done. He then leaves and tries to contact patient first. He comes back in and says it's not broken after a radiologist said it was. He says it's Crush injury. He then squeezes my daughter's thumb and asks if it hurt. Dr. Kim was very unprofessional. Horrible bedside manner.
The appointment that my son and I had was a total waste of time and money. He came in and said that he didn't think that there was a break. He pushed on both sides of my son's ankles and asked him if that hurt. When my son said yes, he informed us that he would give us exercises and left the room. While I didn't study medicine, I believe that I could have done that. I was in shock and forgot to ask about a follow up x-ray until I already left the building. I wish that I could refuse payment but I honor my debts. Follow up appointment, I don't think so.
He spend maybe 5 mins in the room and never even looked at our son issues.
The doctor was absolutely rude and so were the nurses My son has a messed up arm and they were yanking his little arm all over the place and he was beyond upset I do not recommend this place at all They all need a attitude check The doctor was absolutely rude and so were the nurses My son has a messed up arm and they were yanking his little arm all over the place and he was beyond upset … More
If I could give Dr. Kim zero stars, I would. This is the 2nd time I’ve dealt with him. The first time, one of my sons broke his arm & the assistant who casted him did a horrible job. The cast was too tight & cut into his skin & was causing a sore between his fingers. Dr. Kim did not want to recast his arm & I had to fight for my son so that he didn’t have to go months with a cast that was too small & causing sores. This time, he walked in & mistook my son for a girl, was argumentative about checking for scoliosis, when we weren’t even there for that. My son has been having shoulder problems for a year, Dr. Kim dismissed his pain, barely listened to us, hardly asked any questions, & then dismissed us. Our PCP asked more questions & was more caring than he was. Dr. Kim was rude, argumentative, & dismissive. He barely spent 10 mins with us. I will never go to see him again & I suggest that anyone thinking about going to see him should go somewhere else. If I could give Dr. Kim zero stars, I would. I have seen Dr Kim for years. He’s great and I would highly recommend him and all the staff at OrthoVa
I would say Dr Kim is best in his work. He speaks less and doesn't entertain much but he is exceptionally good in surgery. My daughter accidentally broke her hand and it was very bad injury, 3 bones were completely broken, Dr Kim did surgery about 12.30 am (He could schedule it for next day as that was said by hospital but he did surgery on the same day after reviewing x-rays). Within 2 months it has been fully recovered and it's hard to say which hand was broken. We are lucky to have him for surgery on that day. We highly appreciate what he has done for my daughter. Very pleased with the service that my 2 yr old daughter received.
Dr. Kim.was able to see my daughter quickly and help her arm injury. He was very friendly and personable. Thank you!
This Dr. is a Joke he does not care about his patients, only get them in and out hurry hurry. I was admitted into the hospital with a broken hip and by the luck of the draw I got him as my surgeon. I have yet to see an xray or had my procedure explained to me and the last visit lasted maybe 7 min with the DR and I had to go thru the nurse and others to get answers. This Dr. does not care. PLEASE DO NOT GO TO HIM !!!!
Dr. Kim took his time and was very thorough with my son's knee. He explained things well for me. He was very personable, kind, helpful, and all smiles!
Could not have had a better surgeon. Was prepared for what would happen in surgery, recovery and following. Dr. Kim seemed to have a great concern for me as a patient, evev though I had never knew him prior to my surgery. All of the office staff seem to be so caring and professional. His PA, Kacie I’ve very knowledgeable, kind and professional. Both she and Dr. Kim are top notch in my opinion.
Dr Kim was friendly, engaging to my 8-year old, relatable, and positive but realistic. He spoke in short simple sentences so my son could understand the impact of his condition and how it would apply to his sports. I have another child needing an ortho appointment and intend to book with Dr Kim.
Dr. Kim is excellent! My daughter and I enjoy him! Very caring and knowledgeable!
Very professional and knowledgeable about the bones structure. Good bedside manner
My 13 year old had to have spinal surgery, as a parent I was very fearful. Dr. Kim was very patient with us while answering all the questions one can have when you find out your child has to have such a serious surgery. Dr. Kim truly has gifted hands he has been blessed with a gift. July 2018 my daughter had surgery. I was told it could take 4-6 hour. My daughter was done in 4. The incision on my daughter back is perfect and she no drainage. I highly recommended Dr.Kim you will be amazed !!!!!!
He spent possibly 60 seconds with my 6yr old on our first visit and even less on our follow up. We will not be back.
He seem a good doctor regarding to knowledge (meaning I perceived he knew what he was doing), but the visit was very quick, he didn’t spend enough time explaining my son’s condition and just left leaving me with a bunch of unanswered questions, when my son was explaining his injuries and pain he interrupted him and dismissed him like it didn’t matter. I did not appreciate that.
My child suffered an orthopedic injury & was referred to Dr. Kim. Upon examination, Dr. Kim did not even touch my child to evaluate her injury. He dismissed her injury & laughed - very disrespectful. Dr. Kim didn’t want to hear any comments regarding prior physician evaluations — it was as if he had a “God-like” attitude, & what I had to share as a parent was inconsequential. My child’s injuries are significant & she gets care from other doctors. I would NEVER recommend Dr. Kim.
The absolute worse person I have ever interacted with in the medical field. He hardly spoke to me or looked me in the face. He was very impersonable. He made me feel like I was a waste of time with my 1 in half year old son. He hardly even let me speak. He would shut down my question with a comeback which in return made me feel like a moron for even asking them. I left there without even seeing my sons X-rays and was left with only a piece of paper with a little bit of information on it. I didn’t not leave their with a peace of mind. Not only did they not tell me I had to sign a release form so my sons pediatrician can see the X-rays but said I can’t see them myself unless I come back up. So now I have drive another 25 minutes just to sign a form they should have given me to begin with. Not a happy experience! Now I have to go find actual decent person who actually looks like they care about their profession and get some answers elsewhere The absolute worse person I have ever interacted with in the medical field.
