I have found Dr. Ma be very engaging and gives excellent explanations of what symptoms are and potential treatments. I am very happy with the results of my shoulder arthroplasty.

I came to Dr Ma with multiple recommendations from patients and coworkers. Everyone I've interacted with in his office has been wonderful and efficient. My recovery is going great thanks to their team.

I had my ACL and a torn meniscus fixed 20 years ago. Out of the blue, I began experiencing significant pain in the same knee. Dr. Ma evaluated my knee, had concerns, and helped me get an expedited MRI. The MRI showed a torn meniscus, which by the time of the MRI, had moved back into place. Dr. Ma clearly communicated to me what the issue was and the fix. Due the recent flare up and instability of the meniscus, he recommended I get surgery soon. The surgery for my torn meniscus went well and I experienced little to no pain the first week. There was some pain when I had to begin rehab which is expected. I like to research thing and ask a lot of questions. What I liked best about Dr. Ma is that he took the time to answer all my questions and reviewed the MRI with me before and after the surgery. Dr. Ma and the entire staff, especially the nurse who prepped me for surgery, are A+ professionals! Surgery is never pleasant, but the UCSF team made it as pleasant as possible!

Dr. Ma has many years of experience performing surgeries and brings skill, expertise, innovation & an upbeat attitude to his work. I felt confident in his abilities as a surgeon and as a caring human being.

I had shoulder surgery to remove a cyst, repair the labrum and add 2 anchors for bicep. Dr Ma is the best. He walked me through the range of scenarios he might find, and what he would do in each case. The surgical team was excellent, caring, and responsive to my specific situation. From the nurses to the anesthesiologists to everyone in the operating room. Dr Ma treated them - and me - with care and respect. Dr ma made it clear that the surgery is just the beginning: it’s then up to the patient to do the work of recovery. He enlisted my commitment in thatsxsrs. I’ve had quite a few surgeries and none have heard so well. Inside and out. process. His team and their technology have made me feel supported and connected during the healing process. FWIW, I’m 2.5 weeks out and doing great. And my shoulder looks pretty good, too! Three small “x marks the spots.” I’ve had many surgeries, and this one is healing more easily than any other. Dr. Ma, in addition to be an international recognized surgeon globally by his peers, has a lot of fine human qualities. He is compassionate, especially after surgery when I needed a lot of emotional strength and reassurance. He also explained information by showing what he did, and how he repaired the damaged shoulder.

I have had knee surgery by Dr. Ma 10 years ago and he was the BEST Dr. I have ever had. Since then I have e-mailed him about my wife's broken leg and he responds within 24 hours to my e-mails. His group took care of her. He has seen my sister for bad shoulders and wants her to wait until they get worse which shows his care for the patient and not the operating room. His group two years ago operated on my broken wrist and put in a plate. It went great with Dr. Mas' group. He is the BEST!

I've had procedures done by Dr. Ma on both shoulders done over the last year. I've seen the so called best in the bay area, with their photo's of athletes on the wall etc. Dr. Ma is in a league of his own. I was without pain after a total shoulder replacement in 3 days include near zero nerve pain. That tells me that every nerve in my shoulder was moved with great care. Congratulations if you found Dr. Ma - just stick with the program and consider yourself lucky.

Dr. Ma left me with my right shoulder useless. UCSF and Dr Ma failed me and put my health at risk by not treating me as I should of been treated. Failed to treat an infection completely allowing infection to return. Had to have pic line with very nasty medication twice. Infection never went away due to metal left in shoulder both times. Pic line treatment didnt work due to metal left in shoulder. When infection was still present. Dr. Ma stated " their is nothing I can do". Left me with infection, plastic spacer and broken bone. Dr. Ma was reckless by not treating infection correctly. By removing tissue and bone that didnt need to be removed. I was left with my right arm useless, infection still present and zero hope.

Dr. Ma and his team were incredibly wonderful in every way. I could not have asked for more in the way of health care.

I had a meniscus tear so Dr. Ma suggested a trim since I had discoid meniscus, but he was very careful and said he wanted to get a clear look during the procedure before he goes forward with it. Post-op and check-ins have been great and I am looking to be fully recovered in another 5 weeks.

dr. ma, and his fabulous team at UCSF, is by far the very best shoulder surgeon! he did a reverse shoulder replacement on my dominant arm and i have been totally free of pain since surgery - this after 2 years of shoulder pain. he is the very best and i highly recommend him.

My visits were quick and concise. If you like a doctor that answers your questions about the proceedure only, than he is your guy. Otherwise, the other questions are handled by nurses on his team. He is very good at what he does and I am very happy with the results of getting a new shoulder.

I appreciate Dr. Ma’s upbeat and gentle approach to my medical needs. More importantly, I have benefited so much from his expertise in his surgical field; the two surgeries he has performed, replacing both of my shoulders has given me my life back! It is no small undertaking as a patient to have shoulder joints replaced - it can be scary at the best of times. Knowing that my surgeon is super top notch made a world of difference going into it and has resulted in really terrific outcomes for my health and my life.

How many physicians do you know of that responds to an urgent phone call or email within 30+/- minutes? (even when he's on vacation!)

I was worried about having shoulder surgery because of the pain involved. Dr. Ma and the entire staff are absolutely amazing and I could not be happier. I'm so impressed with how professional everyone is and how everything gets done in a timely manner. I never felt rushed and every question was answered before I even asked it. I would and I have recommended Dr. Ma to other people, and when I have my surgery for the other shoulder I would definitely have Dr. Ma do the procedure. I love this doctor and the entire staff.

Dr Ma and his team performed surgery on my daughter, mother, husband and me. Need I say more (maybe that we all need to take better care of our limbs?). Dr. Ma is not only kind, courteous and thorough, he is a master of his trade. I wouldn’t go anyone else!

Dr. and his staff courteous, friendly, listens to your concerns, appointments have been always on time. Have had very little pain and discomfort 3 weeks post surgery. Patient portal kept up-to-date and staff responds back to your questions usually the same day. I highly recommend Dr. Ben Ma and his associates for total arthroscopy of shoulder.

The 5-star reviews here are probably not for the same surgeon we encountered 10 years ago in the UCSF Orthopedics department. Out of many surgeons in this department that we (myself & others) have had contact with, this Dr is the least-skilled, in several respects. Luckily, I've been able to refer patients who needed important procedures, to other surgeons in the SF Bay area, who are in a different league from Dr Ma, to put it mildly.

Dr. Ma was extremely well-read, thorough, and compassionate in handling my case. I would recommend him to anyone.

Dr Ma is extremely pleasant, professional and explains what to expect with a shoulder replacement. I live 3 hours from San Francisco and the drive was well worth it to have Dr. Ma perform my surgery .

Great surgeon with an extremely structured preparation and recovery plan. The orthopedic Get Well Loop is the best virtual care program I have ever seen and it is better by a long shot! I’ve had 5 great surgeries for various ailments at UCSF and I couldn’t be happier with the results!

Dr. Ma did an ACL revision and meniscus surgery for me a few weeks ago. I had blown out my knee and gotten surgery previously so it was a bummer to go through this again but he was AMAZING and I knew he wanted the best for me when I was deliberating what my surgery options were. He and his entire team have been so great throughout this process and he has been very accessible and responsive to my post surgery questions. I am only three weeks out but feeling good. He is an amazing surgeon and good person!!

Dr Ma, is a wonderful doctor and gentleman. I can't say enough about him all the surgery's that he has performed on myself, husband and our son the out come has all been very well. We all have been able to get our full strength and rang of emotion.

This is my second recommendation of Dr. Ma. Unfortunately, my son needed a second orthopedic surgery, inside of 1 year, due to a sports-related injury. Dr. Ma was the first person I called after the injury. Once again, he told me he would take excellent care of my son. And he has. We are sorry we have needed Dr. Ma but we thank God he has been the one caring for our family. He is a kind, intelligent expert who is an excellent communicator with patients and their families. HIs team is also great.

Benjamin Ma examined me in and proposed a surgery solution. He showed me the X-rays and explained everything very well. I returned for the surgery. Everything went as predicted, no surprises. He is not only skilled, but very pleasant. No question is out of line or stupid. Everyone that I have had the opportunity to discuss this reverse shoulder replacement with has confirmed that I had the right surgeon.
