My roommate and I rented with Daniel Ravenel Property Management for two years and had a wonderful experience, especially when it came to maintenance requests. Anytime our HVAC system had issues during the summer (which happened often, due to the age of the house), Ben was always quick to have someone come out and fix things. I would certainly consider renting with them again (if I wasn't in another state now!).

We thoroughly enjoyed being tenants of Daniel Ravenel! Steven was always very prompt to reply to any questions or concerns we had and their team did a great job of addressing maintenance requests. Overall, we had a wonderful experience renting from them the past 3 years!
Good management company and Ben is very responsive and get issues solved quickly.
Cancelled multiple showings. Unprofessional and unkind communication- trust me, there's better in Charleston.
We had a showing scheduled at 10am. We drove thirty minutes to get there and they sent a cryptic calendar change after we were already there. Nobody would answer the phone. Nobody bothered to call us. There was another person scheduled, waiting too. So unprofessional!
Do you think it's fair to charge rent when the house was dirty, full of roaches, moldy shower, broken lights, and in the process of being painted. They were not able to move in until the 15th yet you charged my daughters for rent from the 1st when they couldn't move in. I think you need to make an adjustment

I recently had the good fortune of renting a wonderful property from Daniel Ravenel Real Estate Property Management while on business in Charleston, SC. It was the perfect furnished apartment on one of the loveliest streets in Charleston. Ben Graven, my property manager, made it very easy for me to move in, and made sure that I was comfortable during my stay. During the year I rented, I didn't have any issues. They respond to maintenance requests quickly, are communicative through text and email, and I liked the property and kept it in good condition. What you need to be careful of is the security deposit. I did a deep clean of the house through the recommend contractor (which was about $200) before I left. The house itself was in great condition, and I was told this several time by the representative I worked with. When I received my security deposit back it was missing $243.98, which has never happened to me since I typically keep properties in excellent condition. They charged 43.98 to replace light bulbs and change a smoke alarm battery. And charged $200 for fixing minor anchor holes in the entry way and family room- $50 for materials, $150 for labor. I understand it's the reality of renting and that's what security deposits are for. I am not giving them a 1 star review because of this since this is only one part of my experience with the company, but it is something to keep in mind when you rent from them (and when you move out). Missed a large firearm in the walk through, but at least they assured us they would notice if the air filter had been changed...most filthy filter I've ever seen. Also, don't mind the unhooked washer connections leaking into the garage flooding around unsafe electrical. Very short lived experience, but incredibly disappointing.
Best advice: DOCUMENT EVERYTHING! I was cosigner for my daughter on lease as she started first job post graduation. After three years in rental, she and roomies moved out leaving it in great shape. At walk-through with me, agent agreed she'd get full security deposit refund. Month+ later, they deducted housecleaning and other nonsense charges -- damages from painters that they sent into the house days before lease was up! When I sent note saying "but you said she'd get full refund . . " reply was "talk to our lawyer." Now I gotta take them to small claims court. Can't be trusted, and their word is no good. With the time to search for apartments in Charleston nearing, I have to warn young adults and students to stay far away from this (as previously mentioned in another review) joke of a property management company. If you are lucky enough to have a staff member pick up the phone, they are rude and are constantly blaming the issue on the person "above" them- and that person always happens to be on a business trip and is impossible to reach. I knew it was going to be a long year when I went to go pick up my street parking pass at the DMV. After getting to the DMV, I found out that the property I was in, was just outside of the street parking zone. I had confirmed with the property manager over three times that this unit had street parking- a huge factor for me. When I brought it to his attention, asking what my other options were, he responded with, "I might have said you would be able to get a parking pass, but honestly you don't have that in writing. So what can you do?" The property that I lived in, was above a family owned shop- the shop owner owned the entire building. The owner obviously cared far more about the property than Daniel Ravenel, and had fixed every problem I had before getting a response, if any, from Daniel Ravenel. Right before my lease was up, my roommates and I cleaned the place spotless. We have all lived in Charleston for 4+ years and are well aware of the move out expectations. We are also well aware of sleazy property management companies such as this one and decided to take a video moments before we left the property for the last time- documenting the condition of the entire property before leaving. We were shocked when each of us were only given a small portion of our security deposits back. After calling and e-mailing for weeks, I finally heard back from Daniel Ravenel. They charged us to repaint the entirety of the apartment. When I asked for an invoice of the painting services, I noticed they charged us for paint colors that were not even in the house. I was ensured that was a mistake and they would refund me- that's when they stopped fully responding. We were also charged an absurd cleaning fee. They argued that we left the place a wreck- claiming we left furniture that didn't belong to the property owner, left bags of trash, appliances, etc. They sent me photos old photos of the property as "proof"- they didn't think to remove the two year old time stamp from the photos. I pointed out to them that they were using old photos and I have *recent* video footage of the property right before I walked out. I then received an e-mail from Daniel Ravenel's attorney and was told I would have to go to court if I wanted to get the rest of my deposit back. I had recently taken a position outside of the state and didn't want to go through the hassle or costs, just for a few hundred dollars. Daniel Ravenel is completely aware that as young adults, we won't take it as far (or don't have the means to) as going to court over a few hundred dollars. It truly is a shame that this team takes advantage of that and is continuing to rip off and deceit its tenants. Please do your research and find another property management team! Avoid at all costs! STAY AWAY - 3 months after moving in (12-month lease), the company decided to sell the property - workers coming in and out constantly, asked to crate my dogs 24/7 so workers can come in and out without giving tenants a heads up - I complained about lack of 24 hour notice, nothing changed - workers used my tools and left them out - company did not give back the full deposit after returning the house in better condition than it was given - cited work done while we were still living in the home (to prep for selling) on move-out inspection??? ARE YOU KIDDING ME The overall experience was terrible; I would avoid this company if you can. My girlfriend and I took great care of the house took on some projects that they refused to work on (cleaning gross moldy doors, cleaning porch and garage because it was given in terrible condition). We ended up moving out on month 6 of the lease because of the number of workers coming in and out of the home. After moving out 6 months into the lease, they only gave back 60% of the deposit after I spent 500-700 dollars on carpet cleaners, maids, etc. PS. the deposit was almost 2K I AM THRILLED THAT I WILL NEVER HAVE TO DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY AGAIN. 10/10! I've been renting from Daniel Ravenel Property Management for the last three years and have had nothing but an incredibly positive experience with them. I have rented from multiple companies here in Charleston- ones that are really hard to get in touch with as well as ones that are around way too often. My experience with Daniel Ravenel has been perfectly in between. They are so responsive and professional, but not annoying or intrusive. Unlike other companies I've dealt with, they make you feel like you're their top priority, and never taking advantage of you. Everyone on the team is super friendly and helpful and really do want their tenants to have the best rental experience. Our AC broke on a Saturday, and they had someone over to fix it within a couple of hours...! Read your lease carefully and do not trust these people! Do not rent a place from this company! They decided to charge me for everything they could at the early termination of my lease (only a 6 month lease without certainty of renewal). Even after saying the apartment was clean enough they charged me to have it cleaned. They refused to take a qualified tenant that I found for them that could move in early. They changed the locks based on a “negative tone” in my emails after they said they would wait over a month to lease out the space. Totally and unreasonably screwed me over! When I received my security deposit back, there was a $250 charge taken from it. The old rusted kenmore washer had stopped draining at some point because it’s drainage pump had failed. A technician came out and replaced the pump. The bill for $250 taken from my deposit was for a completely unrelated part and stated that it was broken in half. Daniel Ravenel is managing a home that we bought to eventually retire to. It is a newly-built home and was not intended to be a rental; thus, we were wary of trusting it to anyone. On top of that, we are out of state and cannot just stop by to check up on it. Hence, our focus was finding a manager whom we could trust and who would be careful about picking tenants and keeping an eye on it during the lease. We researched and identified 4 property managers, interviewed 3 and finally selected Daniel. We are happy with the results. Daniel kept us in the loop during the showings; and we wound up with a good tenant. Daniel and his staff, Kyle and Laken, are very responsive, cooperative and helpful with all matters. One suggestion would be to see if there is a way to improve the showing experience (rental or selling) when other MLS realtors come to show the house. We found that some of those agents leave lights on, and one even left the combination lock in an open position (one of our neighbors luckily kept us informed of these situations). (When informed of this, Daniel apologized on their behalf, even though it was not his fault, and went to my house immediately to close things up). Not sure of the solution, except for the primary realtor (Daniel) to follow up and check out the house at the end of each day that the house was being shown. Currently we have been upgrading the property with their help and assistance. Anything I ask of them they willingly do with promptness and efficiency.
