Dr. Darius Kohan

Dr Kohan and his office staff are the best. I came to him for a cochlear implant on the recommendation of my audiologist, Dr Frankel at NYC Hearing Associates. The surgery went very well and I am now waiting for the processor to be turned on. I cannot say enough for what Dr Kohan and his staff did to accommodate me. I live in Alaska and Dr Kohan and his staff worked beautifully to work me into their schedules and coordinate necessary pre-surgery tests, both in NYC and in Alaska. This surgery may not have even happened if not for Dr Kohan’s personal intervention with the medical director at my insurance company, which initially denied it. One phone call the next day and the problem was solved. I wish more doctors would advocate for their patients as well as Dr Kohan does. I highly recommend Dr Kohan for his skill with hearing issues.

As a clinical psychologist I aim to have the best bedside manner and when I make any referrals for my patients, I send them to doctors who are extremely competent and caring. I found Dr. Darius Kohan to be one of the best doctors I have ever encountered. He fit me in right before his vacation even though I was a new patient. He saw me again right before he left for the airport for a vacation. He spoke directly about my sudden hearing loss, explained what he could do for me and gave me realistic odds about success. I had been having difficulty getting an MRI and sophisticated blood tests in the week before Christmas. He got me same day appointments for both and called me right away after hours to give me the results. Within a couple days we knew the exact source of my problem and had completed half the treatment. I give him an A plus plus and I am a tough grader. He allowed me to relax during a crisis and feel hopeful that we were doing all we could do to solve my hearing crisis. Will Swift, Ph.D.

I saw doctor Kohan December 2019. I Was advised to get a hearing test for a possible chochlear implant. I am travelling from Philadelphia to New York so not the easiest commute. I get hearing test done. I had some tough interactions with the chochlear implant coordinator at his office, but after her March 3rd email saying all was good and that she would be moving forward to see if I was eligible and that she would keep me informed. March 3rd 2021 I still have not heard from the coordinator or the office. I just called them since they do not respond to emails and was told that nothing was done and they would have to start the process all over again. I feel that they don't care about there patients and definitely do not care to send an email saying we are behind and it will take longer due to the pandemic. that's all that was needed. Nothing from them until I called them in over a year. cruel and un passionate office staff.

Dr. Kohan is knowledgeable, patient and caring. He spends time to fully understand the issues and listens to his patients to better understand their symptoms. In arriving at a diagnosis, he is not an alarmist, but rather lays out all of the possibilities and develops a plan to systematically rule things. This leads to a clear answer and an appropriate treatment plan. Dr Kohan is, by far, one of the best physicians I have ever worked with and is supported by a highly efficient and caring staff, including the audiologist, Dr. Vaszquez. Better than unbelievably excellent

I am so glad to have found Dr. Kohan. I came for a visit due to Sudden Sensori-Neruo hearing loss. We have gone through several steps to treat the issue and I just received the surgery for a cochlear implant. I couldn't be happier with the results. Also, his staff is kind, considerate and supportive as is Dr. Kohan. He takes his time during his visits to explain everything and listens to me and is sincerely concerned with my well being.

Dr. Kohan has been my daughters provider since birth. He has always been so wonderful with us. When it came to her visits, he is great with explaining her condition, what we should expect and her follow up care. Even with relocating 2 hours away to PA we continue to see him for her care and surgeries. His staff is just as wonderful as he is, which is another reason we stayed. My son had a traumatic injury to his ear which perforated almost his entire eardrum and dislocated one of the small bones of his inner ear. His hearing loss was severe. Dr. Kohan is a miracle worker!! He reconstructed his ear and now, 6 weeks after surgery, his hearing is better than normal!!! We will be eternally grateful. I would highly recommend Dr. Kohan and if anyone in my family needed surgery, I would only go to Dr. Kohan. In addition, his office staff is top of the line. I believe Dr Kohan is a good dr and a good surgeon. He certainly has a great reputation. We did not get to find out because the procedure we needed would hv required 2-3 hr surgery and he is not in network with our insurance. I am giving the office 2 stars because of his staff. His office manager is very insensitive as well as irresponsible. She thought it would be best to go with Dr Kohan even though the out of network fee would of left us financially devastated. She suggested we pay in installments as if that did not mean we still weren't responsible for the possible huge bill. In the end we found another great surgeon in network and thank goodness because Dr. Kohan's office billed us a big chunk of money for only his consultation. We requested that the office lower the fee to be comparable to what other specialist in network would charge but the office manger would not hear of it. Dr. Kohan is a great doctor and a caring person. I have had nothing but positive experiences with him since he saved the hearing in my ear two years ago. Everyone on his staff was personable and professional. He has a stellar reputation among other doctors in his field and I have recommended him to everyone I know who has questions about their hearing. Poor attitude. Does not follow up with patients and is very rude when you call him, he doesn’t take your call and is very rude when you ask questions after surgery. I do not recommend that use this doctor. They’re are others equally capable with better after care.

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Darius Kohan. First, he saved my husband's hearing when he woke up one morning and "spontaneously" lost all hearing in his right ear. He changed his mind only after I bulled my way into the office for another hearing test to prove my condition. After which he changed his diagnosis. Subsequently, I've had three Meniere's attacks. Recently had an appointment with this doctor, very unsympathetic to my distressing situation. He threw a few off the cuff diagnosis at me which were not accurate, and extremely unhelpful. Not helpful with tips as to how to survive with my condition. Dismissive and condescending. He may be very knowledgeable, with an impressive resume, but not for the thin skinned.

Dr. Kohan always spends a great deal of time with me. He is very thorough in his explanations and takes the time to share with me all of the possible outcomes. I would recommend him to everyone!

I called the office yesterday spoke to one guy. I asked to speak to someone that knew about tinnitus. I spoke to a lady there she was not very caring at all. I was in very distressed at the time and still am of this condition didn't even care.. I would not recommend this office because they do not care about their patient if someone answered to you on the phone like that and you're upset.

A horrible experience with him and his receptionist. He assured me that with surgery, my chronic infection would be cured and asked about my hearing loss. You will recover 80-90 percent. Result: infection again, and almost loss of hearing, without any explanation. He sent me to his colleague for an expensive hearing aid, Over $2.000. He also prescribed a med for the infection and sent me off.: see you in six months> So sure of himself....I got fungus from the medication he prescribed. Before treatment he is very nice but once you done with your treatment in my case it was tear drum surgery (tympanoplasty surgery) he was literally behaved as if he is not responsible for anything. First thing he never told what are the implications of this surgery, every time I had to ask him can I do this , can do that(E.g Can I listen to music, can I swim etc.). After surgery I'm, listening continuous sound(tinnitus) , and its still there from last 14 months. He never told me what is reason I'm having tinnitus , when I asked him when it will go, he is not giving any proper answer.
