I had seen Dr. Atwell for years .. 2 years ago he found a mass in my upper left lung. He said it was cancer however did nothing!? No biopsy, no PET scan Just sat on it. Did CT scans debated whether every 3 months was it growing?? Which in turn it had and not only grown it spread to lymph nodes. After doing nothing and I’m complaining every month about tired, losing weight 63# and breathing and pain worse I switched pulmonary Doctors. Within 3 weeks I was in surgery..biopsy results small cell lung cancer!! Fasted growing lung cancer stage 3. And spreading it has done. I feel Doctor Atwell did not listen to me or my concerns. He seemed to want to be a “friend “ not a doctor. Find a new pulmonologist before it’s too late and you have no decision to make for yourself.
Find a different pulmonologist
I saw Dr. Atwell for a long-established sleep apnea problem. Despite the fact that I told him that I had been diagnosed with severe OSA as a young man because of the structure of my throat, he made no attempt to look in my mouth, and instead treated me to a 15 minute lecture about how if I just lost 60 pounds, my sleep apnea would go away. The weight he suggested would have still been more than what I weighed when I was first diagnosed with OSA. He proceeded to recommend combining a dangerously low daily calorie count with exercise. In addition to feeling insulted, I worry for what he is recommending to patients who don't have the good sense to disregard his diet-focused approach to sleep apnea.

Dr. Atwell is not only an excellent, knowledgeable physician, but a very reasonable and kind person. I am so happy that he's one of my doctors.
