Front office needs work and scheduling aapointments is a challenge but Dr Chao is the best at his profession. He's scoped both shoulders and fixed an arthritic knee over 15 years. Very happy with the results of all the above

Staff and Dr. Chow are super friendly & very knowledgeable.

Dr David Chao and Dr James Chao, and their Staff are the best. Staff nurses/technicians Margie and Avis are especially helpful, efficient and compassionate. They easily solve Insurance and scheduling issues that arise. Both doctors make you feel at ease with their clinical explanations of treatment plan and recovery expectations. Dr David is world renowned and has performed surgery on many professional super star sports figures among other prominent people. In fact at 2 different Physical Therapy locations over the past years had individual Therapist that also had surgery from Dr Chao and strongly agree he’s the best. Additionally, my primary family doctors wife also had knee surgery from Dr David Chao. That’s a strong testament of trust for Dr Chao’s skills. Finally I can’t say enough about their entire staff and, especially Margie at the San Diego Office location. The same goes for everyone at the Oasis Surgical Center. Top notch!

Excellent doctor & staff. Highly recommend.

I had injuries that required two separate surgeries with Dr Chao on two separate occasions in the past year. I was very pleased with the diagnosis, treatment options, and expertise, along with successful outcomes for both my surgeries. Highly recommend!

Dr. Chao is a very knowledgeable and outgoing surgeon and doctor that makes a great effort in explaining symptoms, treatment, and recovery for the patient. I have never felt more comfortable in asking questions, and have always received a very thorough answer whenever I have an appointment with him. I highly recommend him.

My right knee is a bit messed up as I have been training hard and with a 40lb pack for a 200 mile PCT hike starting next week. Dr Chao and all of his staff were fantastic with their professionalism, kindness and speed, really key as I am starting so soon. I only needed a cortisone shot this time around and should be good to go, particularly as Dr Chao encouraged me to skip the first difficult 50 miles at Walker Pass. Highly recommend! Thanks All! Great staff. They really listen and care about your needs. Great surgery results.

I have a worst experience ever. I have never given a negative feedback but it pushed me to write one. Being a doctor he was not at all concern about my injury and didn’t provide the proper feedback also. I was only taking initiative to ask questions and then only he was answering it. And the way he was talking is very sarcastic and making face expression which was very rude and same goes with his assistant. Being a doctor it’s his duty to treat patients properly.I don’t know how he is run this. It was my first time there, I will never go there again. If it is possible I would have given negative rating. I had ACL repair and meniscus and I am thrilled w my post surgery recovery and his care, he is an excellent surgeon and the best there is really. All my other friends and athletes have highly recommended Dr Chao. I will be able to fully recover and play sports again thanks to him.

Dr Chao is so professional, caring honest and knows what he is doing …He does not beat around the bush with your health… very good Doctor.. I have been seeing him for going on 3 years …he is the best …I see him for my hip/ lower back /shoulder ….I’m glad I’m in good hands. I want to share my experience when I first start seeing Dr Chao…. I was seeing Dr Chao for my left lower back and I was going to another doctor for my left hip one day I had an appointment with Dr Chao for my back but my hip was in so much pain I could barely walk…Dr Chao noticed how much pain I was in with my hip ..he immediately took care of me … he gave me a painless cortizone injection and prescribe me some cream for my hip… so a few days later I had my appointment with My other Doctor for my hip and I told him what happened at Dr Chao office and also I was going to start seeing Dr. Chao so I did not have to go to two different doctors ..my other only was for my hip but Dr Chao took care of my hip and back.. so my other doctor looked Dr Chao up online …sat and talk to me about him ..and said for the life of me I don’t know why I didn’t prescribe you that cream ..he is a good Doctor and right there that let me know Dr Chao was a thinker and was going to be great for me Dr Chao is so professional, caring honest and knows what he is doing …He does not beat around the bush with your health… very good Doctor.. I have been seeing Dr Chao for right foot and left knee issues.since August. His treatment plan helped me to avoid left knee surgery due to a miniscus tear and resume normal functioning.

The staff were caring and helpful and I had confidence that Dr. Chao was on top of the situation. He looked at all the records I supplied and got me up and moving. Just what I was hoping.

Visit began with x-rays pre-appointment. Dr. Chao asked me about my shoulder, which is an ongoing concern, but now doing much better.* He then examined my knee after already viewing the x-rays. He gave an initial diagnosis and ordered an MRI. Everything was appropriate and handled in a very personable manner by doctor and staff. *I previously saw Dr. Chao for a second opinion, and he helped me to avoid recommended shoulder surgery and a very difficult recovery. After cortisone shots followed by physical therapy, the therapy was much more effective than the previous round of physical therapy. I tore my meniscus surfing, basically a very hard rebound top hit, twisting my board with my knees fully bent as the wave lurched. My knee was clicky and sore for 4 months. I found Dr. Chao years ago through yelp, and I called and saw him a few days later. He offered to fit me in for arthroscopic surgery the following Wednesday, and I accepted. No insurance, no MRI, no months of red tape, just straight to it, because I was done messing around. I wanted to pay the best guy and get the best treatment. A week later I was amazed at how good it felt. Dr. Chao showed me the pictures at the one week follow up. He showed the before and after, and he removed the torn chunk of meniscus and did a bunch of clean-up of frayed edges of my various worn knee innards. It barely even hurt where the cuts were and that point. I'm 3 weeks post-surgery now, and doing pretty much everything (skateboard, mountain bike, Crossfit, squats, snatches) - still light but feeling great. Dr Chao is the real deal if you are an athlete and you want to get right back at it. Finally found a doctor who could quickly and accurately diagnose an injury. Dr. Chao was direct and thorough, while still being very pleasant and personable. Very quick service, too. Not only was I able to schedule an appointment within a few days of my call, it only took about an hour to see the doctor, get xrays, and then receive the diagnosis. Only downside was that they don't accept my insurance, so I paid out of pocket (but I felt their charges were completely reasonable). That being said, it was still probably cheaper than all the co pays I would have had to pay if I went to my primary care, then they'd have to refer me to pt, then to a specialist, then xrays and maybe MRI....and I would have wasted so much time. I highly recommend Dr. Chao. I just wish I had found him earlier. Finally found a doctor who could quickly and accurately diagnose an injury. From the minute I walked in the front desk staff was friendly and professional. I needed to travel out of the city so they helped by letting me know I should have X-rays taken before instead of during my visit. The doctor is one of the best in San Diego and was out of there in about an hour tops. Thank you all so much!!!

Im very happy with my experience with Dr Chao and his team at Oasis. I had a ruptured Achilles and they got me in and repaired in a timely manner. I’m a return customer and would and have recommended him to friends.

Question for you, would you take a Corvette to Jiffy Lube to have it tuned up? Or would you prefer to have a certified Chevy mechanic work on your car, someone trained on it and who handles Chevies daily? I came to San Diego for a month long trip and ended up getting hurt. My wife and I researched the top doctors in the area for the type of surgery I needed and found Dr. Chao. We booked an appointment and were very impressed with the services from the front dest assistant, the x-ray tech, to being diagnosed by Dr. Chao. Dr. Chao and his staff were very attentive and empathetic about my situation, including an issue that I didn't even come in for! Dr. Chao addressed the issue with my shoulder, set up a plan and then also gave me direction on a previous procedure that did not go well.

I was referred to Dr Chao by a sports medicine doctor who was very concerned with my MRI. I called immediately to make an appointment with him. I was placed on hold for 18 minutes which is a very long time to wait just to schedule an appointment. The receptionist was rude, but we verified my insurance information and I was not able to get in for almost three weeks. The day before my appointment I got a reminder phone call and the next dayI arrived 15 minutes prior to my appointment as requested. When I got there I was told they don’t take my insurance and that I needed to call my PPO to verify. The receptionist said “someone” put a note in my chart. I asked why I wasn’t called and notified and she just shrugged her shoulders. I asked how much the appointment would cost me without using my insurance and she couldn’t answer that question either. She had me speak to their financial person on the phone who said it was a question for the front desk. The entire staff was rude and not one person would answer any of my questions or help in any way. I have worked in the medical field since 1998 and have never seen an office run as poorly as this one. Never mind the fact that my bone marrow MRI in question could be life threatening.
