About David Lester Fox
Reviews for David Lester Fox
History: Dr. Fox did my husbands hip surgery years ago. Husband was in the med field & referred patients to Fox. Always felt his personality was questionable, but his surgical skills top notch. Moved to FL & retired in 2016. Moved back to SA, TX 2020 Fast fwd 2021-I had a partial knee replacement prior to Covid when living in FL. Unable to return to practice in person in FL due to Covid & relo back to TX. Had pain in partial replacement. Went to see Dr. Fox. He was great. Said let’s plan on me committing to PT for a few months & gave me an injection. The plan worked! Very happy and had trust in his judgement. 1/2023 developed a cyst behind good knee. Saw pain dr. Was treated & diagnosed a ganglion cyst.(Rare behind knee but can occur). Developed inability to bear weight & muscle spasms in thigh, moving to calf, then pain in knee. Had MRI which showed moderate arthritis, not bone on bone, meniscus intact but a bulge at the horn of meniscus, chondtomalacia & effusion (swelling) & thankfully no surgery would be needed. On a Friday, March 3, PA Adam saw me & injected lateral side of my knee (no pain there) without an exam. He was going off MRI & the standing XRAY they took that day. We inquired why there he indicated that’s the way Dr. Fox like to do it to cover the entire knee cap. Got 0 relief & called back on Monday. Got 2nd Appt on Tuesday, Mar. 7. (Husband indicated to PA Adam that I allowed him to examine my knee & found I was extremely tender in the Pez Bursar.) Husband also said I am not trying to tell you how to do your job but this was the findings & maybe you can examine her there. PA David expressed gratitude & an injection was given into that area of the knee. Post visit I sent some notes thru the portal to PA David about using KT Tape to sure up the knee for the chondrites & he RSVP’d probably good. Pain on every step continued so I called the practice in March 14 asking to see Dr. Fox.was told he was on vacation that week but was given an appt. to see Dr. Fox for Monday March 20 at the NE Baptist location. My confirmation email for the appt. Said I was seeing Dr. Fox. Went to Appt by myself & a woman walked in and did not introduce herself. I then asked are you a nurse or PA. She said I’m a PA. She then says what are you here for. (Hmmm call me crazy but I am a returning patient). No notes, no laptop so I proceed to tell her the history and she abruptly gets up & says I guess I need to go get my laptop. She comes back in, while I am sitting in a chair next to the desk in the room where she sat back down. I continue to fill her in while she stares at her laptop. She asks a few questions about how long did I get relief from the other shots. I told her I didn’t. I also explain I had 2 upcoming events that would require significant walking. The first I can back out of but not the second, a long planned trip to Venice & Croatia leafing April 11th. She says I can give you an injection but too many close together are not good for the knee. So she tells me to schedule another Appt closer to when I am leaving to get an injection. I became upset at that point seeing this Appt was a waste of my time. I ask her to provide me with PT exercises I can do at home & I go to the front desk & schedule a follow up Appt. The interesting thing here is she NEVER EXAMINED me and I never left the chair next to the desk she was sitting at. Upon my return home, I share my experience with my husband & he says let me call their office to speak with the Practice Manager. That has always been the protocol patients used in every practice he worked in if they were dissatisfied or needing to escalate an issue. Husband spoke with Donna & she was totally understanding and guaranteed an appt with Dr. Fox. Was given an appt. Same week on Friday, March 24. Dr. Fox enters the room & immediately states that we are there to be contentious. We tried to speak &he screamed at my husband. He also accused my husband of stating that we threatened to go to the Medical Board. (That never said). To be continued
Giving this person a 1 is too much. He is an ego maniac and has zero bedside manner. My daughter had a knee problem and is also disabled. He walked in and said I don’t know what’s wrong with her. No treatment at all. Don’t rely on front desk… they are if no help and don’t return phone calls. He’s just a nasty ol man.
Dr. Fox screamed at me and my husband sitting next to him had to ask him to calm down. I had reacted when he was examining me and he was proving how screaming didn't bother him. This was very discerning. I am going to a different Dr. After reading other reviews I am glad I am not alone in his actions to patients.
I wish I could leave Negative stars! Dr Quack.....I mean David Fox doesn't even deserve the title Dr! He is an absolute disgrace to the medical community with his big ego, terrible bedside manner, lack of compassion and foul mouth! Not professional. -10 out of 10 would not recommend! Do not go to him!
This guy is terrible! He acted like I should've been to hop off the table and walk to my car right after surgery. He drilled holes to make scabs to provide a cushion for my knees and I should not have walked for 6 weeks after. I didn't know this until I had another doctor do it properly and explain everything to me.

My Wife went to see Dr. Fox to find out the problem with her knee. What happened next left us with a bad taste in our mouth. This guy came out with a big ego trip and told us he couldn't do the surgery. He gave us analogies, like we were stupid. UNPROFESSIONAL! Needless to say we will not return. Best dr ever, dr David Fox.❤????
Dr Fox and his team have been wonderful helping my husband through two knee replacements and a torn off quad muscle as well as a broken ankle. We feel very confident with his care.
If you want your injury fixed and the best surgeon possible working on your knees - then you go see Dr. David Fox. He truly saved my life and he alone with a handful of surgeons in the country - yes in the country(!) – knew how to perform specific procedures. He was able to provide the knee replacement & revision surgery I needed for my MRSA Grade II infection. He is crazy TALENTED! And when it came time to make hard decisions he sat down with me and we made them. I do not disagree that his bedside manner can be dry and sometimes harsh. Yet he knows his craft Truly that’s what you’re paying for. You’re not paying for him to be super sweet and so nice! Yes it helps him get clients if he would but at the end the man is amazing at what he does and he doesn’t need to be. It’s just the truth. I’d go see him any day over those that didn’t know what the hell they were really doing & made my situation worse. 15 surgeries on my knees & Dr. Fox was the last 2 that ended my nightmare.
Dr. Fox is a very caring Dr who I Trust. He has been kind and takes time to explained my case. He is an excellent surgeon.
Poor bedside manners arrogant foulmouthed I won't go back.
Always prompt explained everything so I could understand what was to happen with my hip total reconstruction. This was my 4th surgery do to compilations from my 1st hip replacement done by another dr. Great follow up and care.
I had an infected hip replacement. My surgeon could not figure out why I had so much pain. Dr. Fox knew immediately what my problem was. It took 2 surgeries and lots of time, but thanks to Dr Fox, I now have a new hip!
I would like to thank Dr Fox and his team. My husband had put off his need for a hip replacement for many years. But Doctor fox did a good job explaining the process which put him at ease. Then his team helped us with a speedy recovery. My husband is a brand new person spiritually and mentally due to Dr Fox. Thank you!
I saw him right before Thanksgiving last year. I had taken x-rays with me after being told to do so and he never looked at them but had the staff take more X-rays of my hip while I was there. I was going to Dallas for Thanksgiving and I asked him if he could give me a cortisone shot for the pain. He would not do it and told me to cancel my trip to Dallas. I already was scheduled to work Christmas and New Year's and I did not want to cancel Thanksgiving plans. He was more concerned about finding someone to help him do surgery the day I saw him then he was about my pain and told me his surgery was important like if I wasn't. He referred me to get a cortisone injection straight into the hip joint. I had to wait till the 3rd week of December to get the appointment. The pain never went away all the way and by the beginning of February it was like I had gotten no injection at all. I would have preferred getting a hyaluronic acid injection or something similar.
This Dr. is cruel and has 2 very different behaviors ... One he uses in the presents of patients who see him alone and one he uses when someone goes in with you... Really, like two different people... He also employee's someone named Lena who has the job of speaking to your in home care service and treats them in a way that makes them fear having to call in to give or receive instructions. As I look at the whole ordeal still years after, I see him as a insurance seeking surgeon who has No Use for you after he has collected His Money ... In my 65 yrs I have never meet any Dr. so cruel and harsh. Please do not go to Dr. David Fox on 18707 Hardy Oak Blvd. in San Antonio Tx. This Dr. teats people with purposeful malice!
Dr. Fox was straight to the point and I appreciate that. No fluff. He added examples and humor as well. My kind of doctor.

Dr Fox did an amazing job on my knee surgery, my scare is hardly visable!!! Great Doctor!highly recommended
Dr. David Fox is not a bedside manner doctor HOWEVER; Dr. Fox knows his craft to a "T" and he saved my life. He isn't here to be a friend and although I agree that compassionate care is important; I feel that you go see Dr. Fox when other options are exhausted and/or you just want the best darn doctor and associate physician to work on you. Personally, I gave it right back without being disrespectful to his expertise and ommitting any foul language - and he was fine with it. Lastly, when my road to wellness led to hundreds of thousands in expenses to the hospital - it was Dr. Fox who then compassionatley spoke to me about considering other financial options as well as; offered to write a letter on my behalf.
Lacks kindness and compassionate.. Talks, but doesn’t listen.

Best doc I've ever known. Fixed me right up. Thanks Doc.
DR. DAVID FOX performed "a revision hip replacement surgery (a surgical procedure to replace a worn out hip replacement implant) in January 2003, and I'm still walking -- 14 years later!!!!! And I'm not a pixie! The "old hip replacement" was done in the Valley and lasted eight (8) years. The "old hip replacement" may have been falling apart after several falls in my Valley home. I will forever be thankful for Dr. David Fox and his expertise! I'm 82 years old, and I'm hoping it will last me the remainder of my life -- ever how long that may be!!!!!!! DR. The best $40 co-pay I ever spent. Dr. Fox was right on point and kept the exam and recommendations easy and simple to understand. We were on the same page.

The answering service rep is rude as heck. Claims the Dr no longer see's follow up patients. Well I don't want a PA to see my husband he wants a Dr. That's what I am paying for. The last time the PA gave him an injection it lasted 3 days when Dr fox did it, it lasted almost 3 months. No more trainers

Dr. Fox does surgery only after all non-surgical methods have been used and exhausted. He performed a total knee replacement in February 2017 & at 5 months after I am pleased I had the surgery performed. Dr. Fox is straightforward and explains all procedures thoroughly. He is compassionate and only wants the best result for his patients.

After a few years.. I am looking for a new orthopedic. Called in tears the pain is so sever in the knee that I can't walk. Explain that to phone staff. THEY DON'T CARE!!!!!!!! Today 11/18/2016. Can't get me in to see doctor until 12/2/2016. Stated that there is nothing they can do to help me with the pain or to get me in to see the doctor. I need a doctor that has an office staff that cares and wants to help you. Not just get you off the phone as soon as possible. They wouldn't even take a message and have the nurse call me to talk about a solution until I could get in to see the doctor. I liked Dr. Fox. Phone staff - not so much. Maybe they are the reason patience are leaving!!!!! After a few years.. I am looking for a new orthopedic. Called in tears the pain is so sever in the knee that I can't walk. This Dr is by far the biggest egotistical and unfriendly physician I've ever come across...I will never feel comfortable going under his knife. He treats his staff like lower class citizens and only cares about the "Bottom Dollar" No Thank You!! I'll find a different doctor.

Dr Fox has done a total knee replacement and a total hip replacement on me within the last twelve months. I trust Dr Fox and his staff with my life. They are spectacular in EVERY way.

I took my Mother to talk about hip replacement. They required that she have more X-rays even though she had X-rays in hand from 2 weeks prior. He was pretty aggressive, in-your-face, my way or the hwy type. I didn't get talk or ask questions. I'm sure he's a good surgeon, but I just need better rapport.

He is very straight forward. The problem I had was with my MRI in hand and an xray done in his office (both with showed my knee basically bone on bone and floating cartilage from prev damage and torn meniscus. I rec. 8 weeks of viscosupplementation They did not work for me. I also have kidney problems. He told me on my last visit that he could not help me but if I needed help call him. I have sense found out that surg with kidney fail is done all the time (pain for addit. year). Got new dr
He is not interested in my thoughts. Told me to stop talking because he felt i was a talker. His perception of my thoughts/me was incorrect. I did not get to ask what concerned me. I would ask or start to ask a question and would be shut down.

Dr. Fox and his entire team operate as a well oiled machine. I was in the hospital, had my surgery, and was out of the hospital within 48 hours. I had an epidural and surgery was virtually pain free. I am six weeks out of surgery and still doing pt 3 times a week. I will see Dr. Fox this Friday and I am hopeful he will grant me a full pardon. That is not to say that I am fully recovered. At age 70, But I know every day moving forward will find me stronger and stronger!

I called on Tuesday (3/15/16) to make an ASAP appointment, and I was scheduled on Thursday (3/17/16). The clinic was super busy; however, the staff provided a wheel chair to my husband in order to get me from the car to the clinic, I had x-rays, I was seen by Dr. Fox, then I visited by Melba to explain medications, getting fitted for a brace and crutches, and I got fitted all in approximately 40 minutes. Dr. Fox and staff are fantastic!
