Dr. Schmidt replaced both my knees, one four years ago and the other one, two months ago, he’s an excellent surgeon and great follow up to explain what to expect during recovery. My home physical therapist told me that he can always tail Dr. Schmidt’s patients because they heal much better than some of the other knee replacements patients from other doctors

My daughter tore her ACL in a rodeo. Had surgery today. Cannot say enough about how good and professional David Schmidt conducts his practice.

Great doctor. Took care of my daughter.

ACL surgery took 40 minutes. I was scheduled a week after having my knee problem assessed and diagnosed. Dr. Schmidt did a terrific job.

I had a complete knee replacement with Dr. Schmidt - done as out-patient with his job done in 45 minutes. I have to say it is one of the best overall medical experiences I've ever had. No one likes to be laid up and working through therapy, but everything about the experience has been utterly professional - from the doctors and nurses to the staff at Sports Medicine, especially Iman! I knew what to expect going into it and what after the operation. If you're hesitating on doing this, I can only say I have my leg back and am very thankful.

I am blessed to have Dr. Schmidt as my 2 knee replacement hero! He made me feel like family. His skill and bedside manner is a cut above!

I never write reviews, but my experience with Sports Medicine Associates of San Antonio and Dr. David Schmidt has been nothing short of abysmal, and if I can convince one person not to go here, this is worth it. I had a complete ACL reconstruction in May 2017, and we can set aside the fact that I was rushed into scheduling a surgery, my questions were answered in as few words as possible, and hardly anything was explained to me, because I was impatient to move forward as well so I take responsibility. AFTER my surgery is when things got really bad. First of all, I paid everything in full up front. I got a bill for an additional $800 later, and I wasn't sure where it came from, so I asked the billing department to provide me with documentation of everything I had paid and what they were saying I still owed. This was never given to me, after repeatedly asking. They kept saying "they put it in the mail". In the meantime, my knee was still not feeling right at 6 months, but when I went for my checkup, Schmidt spent only about 3 minutes with me, brushed off my concerns, and said I was fine. I decided to get a second opinion, but most other docs wanted to see my medical records first. I requested them from SMA, but could only ever get a voicemail in the "records department". I left 10 voicemails over a few weeks and my request was never fulfilled. I filed a complaint with HIPPA and seeing if I have any other legal recourse. I finally found another surgeon who would see me without records, and after another MRI it was discovered I have a cyclops lesion along the graft Schmidt put in. The lesion itself was probably not something caused by Schmidt, but it was undoubtedly there at my 6 month checkup when my concerns were ignored. I went the this center bc I heard about the "Spurs Doctor", but I can assure you that if you are not a professional basketball player, you are not a priority in this organization. Dr. Schmidt is a wonderful doctor but pawned me off to another doctor who I am not happy with. The office was rude about be switching doctors and refused to allow me to see Dr. Schmidt unless I need surgery. How does one know they need surgery unless they see you? They told me to get a MRI from my PCP which I can't have because I have a screw in my foot. I'm pretty sure I need surgery since I have had two rounds of Hyalgan shots there and have done everything else I can to prevent surgery. I regret ever going to this office to be pawned off to other doctors and not someone I know and have known by working with him at a local surgical center. Thank you for that. Great doctor and great person.

Dr. Schmidt has been my orthopedic surgeon since 1996 when he performed a lateral meniscectomy on my right knee. In 2012 he replaced my right knee which I've never any issues with. He gave me a knew lease on life as far as I'm concerned. His talent and professionalism are second to none and I've never had a doctor in my entire who's bedside manner was more comforting or a doctor who props up his feet on the counter and makes you feel like you've been friends forever and sits there and listens to ALL your concerns without making you feel rushed like most doctors do. I don't recommend many people for anything but Dr. Schmidt comes with my highest possible recommendation

2 knees and now both feel great. A great doctor who only wants the best for his patients.

One year later after my knee surgery with Dr. Schmidt my knee is better than it has been in years. Better than expected.

The best orthopedic doctor I've been to. I fell off my motor home & tore my ACL MCL. I been to a bunch of orthopedics thru out the years due to motorcycle racing & none compare to his expertise & service. I was walking in two days with out any complication. This was 4 years ago. The surgery went as planned however the recovery and post op was anything but what I expected. I was told that I would receive a general pain killer injected directly into the knee and that that would help with my pain. I'm not stating that it was not injected but if it was it nothing to curtail the pain. I was in agony right from the start. I took, as directed, the small prescription of pain killers that Dr. Schmidt had provided me. The Rx lasted me for 2 days. I called Dr. Schmidt over the weekend and told him how much it hurt. He recommend that I take something over the counter for the pain. I dealt with the pain and took what I could find around the house and then called again on Monday. His office left a message stating that he would not authorize a refill of my pain killer. I would recommend anyone that needs any kind of knee surgery to find someone else. This experience has made me certain that I never return to this medical office again. I plan to find someone else for my post op visit.
