Dr Pokriefka has been our family pediatrician for 30 years. Unfortunately, the office staff has gone downhill tremendously! My daughter has left messages in regards to caring for her almost 8 month old baby that has covid. The medical assistant doesn't return calls and is one of the rudest people I have ever come across. Poor baby has conjestion in his chest. My daughter asked for a nebulizer. The medical assistant said the doctor wouldn't give one for a stuffy nose. My daughter told her again that his nose was fine, but he was wheezing and had conjestion in his chest. The MA was very rude and hung up on her. Do not bring your children to this office. I NEVER get a hold of the office on my first call whether it’s to make an appointment, prescription refills, or medical questions. I have to call multiple times and leave multiple messages before anyone calls back. I’ve had questions and concerns about my child on different occasions and either I never get a call back or currently I’ve been waiting 3 weeks to an answer about a medication. They ask you to arrive 20 mins before your appointment but you’ll be in the waiting room for a minimum of 30 mins and another 20-30 mins in the exam room waiting for Dr. P. We wait about 1 hour every single visit before we see Dr. P. Each visit is then rushed and uninformative. I’ve already spoke to an office manager about these issues, but it continues to happen. Currently looking for a new pediatrician. Do not bring your children to this office. I wouldn’t even give this so called doctor a star but had to for this review. From the start I should have switched doctors, she told me as a first time mom to not pump so I don’t have an over supply. She ignored my concerns about my daughter having a tongue tie, said she does not but she in fact does. My daughter tested positive for RSV and three weeks later we had her scheduled 4 month appointment which “doctor” Pokriefka denied her medical attention because my daughter was congested. Claimed they aren’t set up for “sick” patients but yet you have a sick waiting room… WORST DOCOTR EVER!!!! I wouldn’t even give this so called doctor a star but had to for this review. I have been taking my son to Dr. P since he was born..she was my brothers pediatrician and one of my cousins. I haven’t ever really had something good or bad to say about her until now. My son is sick and I called yesterday morning, no one answered. I left a message with no response. So I called at 7:30pm when my son started complaining of a pain in his side. I was told I would get a call back from Dr. P since I talked To someone and they said that she would. Never got the call. So this morning now, my poor kid is still sick and is in pain. I called an hour ago left ANOTHER message with no response!! Why would a dr office be closed 45 minutes after they opened?? Anyways, I called AGAIN. lady at front desk told me it could only be a virtual visit. I asked if there were any appointment slots for noon or after being im at an appointment myself right now and my grandmother who is watching him has no idea about computers. So she said tomorrow then. I said no he needs to be seen TODAY! So I told her I will just take him to my urgent care. She goes “OK” and hung up. Dr. Pokriefka is the absolute worst doctor I've ever seen. My son is 15 months old and she refused him care because he has a runny nose. During the screening process when you come to the office a runny nose is not one they ask when screening for covid 19. So when the nurse came in to ask if I had any concerns. I explained he's teething so I have concerns about him pulling his ears and his runny nose. The nurse asked Dr. Pokriefka if she would still see him with this new covid symptom and doctor Pokriefka refused care to my son because he has a runny nose. She stated I'd need to reschedule as a telemedicine visit. She should lose her license for refusing care to a toddler over a runny nose. The new doctors office I'm taking him to said they will absolutely see him and if he needed anything else in the mean time till his appointment to just give them a call. I already feel relieved I've left her office. Her staff have always been kind to me but Dr. Pokriefka is THE WORST PROVIDER. Please find another doctor dont give her a chance to neglect your child! We recently just changed pediatricians and I am so glad we did. The receptionist who helped me printed off the last visit notes so the new pediatrician had some weights and stuff to go off of since they didn’t have all of her medical records yet. I read through the notes and half of the notes we did not know about. For my daughter who’s 2 it said that she had problems with weight, nutrition, exercise and verbalization. Said we were talked and counseled on all these issues. We had no idea, in person Dr P said everything was fine she was actually advanced for her age and her weight was perfect. For my son who’s one, they didn’t give one shot that they were supposed to and then wrote in the notes that we refused the vaccine which we did not. Didn’t even realize he didn’t get the vaccine until the new pediatrician told us. In the notes for him said he has trouble verbalizing and we were also not counseled on that which is said we were. Also he was only 6 months old. I didn’t realize that 6 months old they were supposed to be talking but what do I know. Overall very unhappy with the whole office. Front desk people were always rude and judgmental. We recently just changed pediatricians and I am so glad we did. First time I went there staff was really rude and told me I was late and that I was supposed to arrive early, (they had never asked me to arrive earlier than the appointment time given to me) even the appointment reminder didn’t ask me to arrive any earlier. It was a long wait, place was stuffy, not a nice pediatric office at all. A different time later I had called to get my daughter in for a sick appointment same day and they told me they were all booked up and wouldn’t be able to see her today. For 22 years I have taken my children to Dr. P she is wonderful. But now they are older and have to go see Dr Baker. I decided to make Dr Baker my primary care physician since I was comfortable there. What a huge mistake. In fact none of my family will ever go there again. First off I needed a referral to get an ultrasound done at my OB. I call to get it and I was told you haven't been seen here in a year and a half we cannot give it to you. And Dr Baker is on vacation and booked up for a month. Excuse me... I dont run to the doctor unless I am really sick which is far and few between. So needless to say I didnt get my referral. Then a couple months later I needed a surgery on my foot which needed metal hardware throughout the foot. I could not drive (am still not driving 2 months later) and once again you haven't been here in 6 weeks. Mind you I called on a Wednesday for the referral and Friday when I called back to make sure they were going to send it over to my doctor. I was told at 3 pm on a Friday Dr Baker is going on vacation all next week so you cannot get a referral which there is no one else there to pick up her patients when she leaves. And you haven't been here since 2016. I asked for them to bend the rules for the referral since I needed surgery that Tuesday for my foot that was currently dislocated. The lady at the front desk assured me that the lady that give referrals would get in touch with me Monday. That never happened. This wasn't a bunion on my foot it was an emergency. And truthfully I will tell everyone I know not to go there. I had to scramble to get a new primary care physician on a Friday at 3 pm and get an appointment that Monday to be seen by a new primary care provider so that I could have surgery. Thank God I made that happen. Even my orthopedic surgeons office was livid they wouldn't give me a referral for an emergency like this. Once again Dr P is exceptional, but Dr Baker makes that entire establishment look like a joke. For 22 years I have taken my children to Dr. P she is wonderful. Dr. Baker has been our family doctor for several years now. I really like her and believe she is a good doctor. But I would never recommend her to anyone at this point and will likely be looking for someone new in the future. The reason is that her office does not communicate at all. If you try to call in for an appointment, be prepared to call at least 5 times because they no longer answer the phone most of the time. If they transfer you to someone, you will have to leave a message and hope you get a call back. They do not call you back in general, not even with test results, nor even when they have specifically told you they will be calling. The entire first 2 years that we were with Dr. Baker, no member of my family was able to get an appointment within 6 weeks of calling. If you needed an appointment sooner than that, they told you to go to urgent care (which cost substantially more under my insurance at the time). It has been better since then, but now they will not even answer the phone, so I have to go to urgent care anyway. I called 4 or 5 times the last time my son was sick, and eventually left a message asking for an appointment that day. They never called back. It pains me to write all this, because Dr. Baker is extremely personable and caring and her staff are very nice, but I cannot live with this level of service. I hope she sees all the reviews on here about this and finds a way to change the office practices. I will say that the nurses here are the best I've ever had with needles. Barely hurts at all. If I was just scoring my experience with Dr. P. I would give a 5, however I’m contemplating switching pediatricians because of recent issues. When my oldest was 2 (a year ago) I was mistakenly charged for obesity counseling for my tall and thin daughter. I know that mistakes happen, so I called the office and was confronted by a rude receptionist and had to have the hospital dispute the charge. They took care of it, but the disrespect wasn’t warranted. In addition the hours listed are not correct. If I ever call on a Friday they say they’re open but they aren’t. Nobody ever answers. And last but not least the wait time is getting ubsurd. I went to my youngest’s well visit Thursday and waited 2 HOURS, and the time before that I waited an hour. I took a half a day off work! Dr.Baker is an awesome doctor......my kids love her and she is very timely

I have been taking both of my kids here for about 4 years and we all love Dr. P. She interacts with kids wonderfully, she always knows what's going on, and she advises on our kids best interests rather than just pushing medication right off the bat.

Dr. Pokriefka and her staff were all caring and attentive. Short wait, even at the end of the day. Took my concerns seriously and recommended appropriate action.

They must follow some Horrible, ridged office policy, no one ever picks up the phone, hardly ever have appointments available if I don’t call about 2 weeks ahead. But worst of all waiting for a call back from them ????

Dr Pokriefka is the worst doctor ever and her staff is unfriendly and rude. Dr P was my daughter's doctor for 10 months and now we are going to a different doctor a real doctor that cares about patients.

Very disappointed with the pediatric office. The doctor was good, but they are not set up to provide good service. They never pick up the phone when you call. My wife kept calling to ask a question because we were really worried about our baby and they didn't answer. We just wanted a quick answer from the staff or talk to the doctor for few minutes during normal business hours. She then took our baby to the hospital to see if she can ask in person. The staff was very rude and told us to go to the emergency room. Doctor has no time. Has anyone been to McClaren macomb emergency room? We went and my wife had to wait 3 hours in emeregency waiting room after they came and told us it'll be 3 more hours. So no thanks! After this, I'm thinking no more mclaren. Very unhappy with the new Doctor they have Dr baker. I've been coming here for 19+ years. Love Dr P she a wonderful doctor for young kids. But good luck getting in to see Dr. Baker. I've called two times and its a month or more wait for my to older kids to get in now. I called to get my son stitches out they could not get him in for a month, or go to urgent care they said are you joking. I never thought i would leave Dr. P offices she wonderful but every since they changed everything the office i do not like it no more.. I love Dr Pokriefka, we took our son there until we moved to another state. I miss that place! Does Dr P remember Leo Baker? He was a Preemie? His picture was on the cork board for the longest time. He's now 14 and 200 lbs and just about 6ft tall! LOL My preemie is a big boy now and I have to look up at him!

Dr P is the greatest thee only reason Im giving 5 stars is for her! Been going here 6 years. But the new staffing up front besides one of the girls, they are nothing but rude!. I like the old staff better. When you call they never answer. Or are legit rude period. Or they hang up on you. This isnt an accident because this happens alll the time now. They are deff in need of a self check of why they are working there. I dread seeing a certain staff member she just gives off a bad vibe all around. NOT very friendly to children. I've only been bringing my daughter here for 8 months. And at one point I had an issue with my daughters insurance and had to go to a new one for one of her appointments. ( I didn't like them.) I instantly wanted to come back to Dr.P. She is one of the most caring doctors ive been too. My daughter just loves her. She always takes her time. And as a first time mom, i tend to be over worried and she still takes the time to check my daughter out and explain everything to me. Answers all my questions. With no doubt, I'd recommend her to everyone I could. She is amazing. Such a caring Dr. :) The only thing i could say I don't like is the receptionist. They are very rude. She is a careless doctor , she refused to see my sick 10 months old baby and we were told to go the ER instead. This is ridiculous!

We had a very upset 2 month old. Dr. Pokriefka claimed it was colic or worry of first time parents and not to worry. The doctor never ran any tests. We thankfully got a 2nd opinion and it turns out she had kidney reflux. She was suffering from a bladder infection that spread to her bloodstream. She was hospitalized for 2 months. A simple urine test could have caught this earlier. Please do not use this pediatric office. In addition to this, the office staff is very slow and would refer to my daughter as a "he." Very sloooow! Only gave this place (McLaren Macomb family Medicine) a 2 because Dr. Pokriefka has been my children Pediatrician for about 9 years now and she is a decent Doctor. However, most of the staff here is unfriendly and has lack of effort to move beyond a glacier pace. Be prepared to wait 30 minutes before they even verify your information and then another 1-2 hrs for the Dr. Very sloooow! It's sad that ratings for an outstanding physician are mediocre due to reviewers' focus on the staff members, so I wanted to share my experience with Dr. Pokriefka. She was my pediatrician and I am now over 30, and Dr. P made a very positive and long-lasting impact on my life. Foremost, she is kind and approachable, actually listens to you, and does not rush your visit. I was a cheerleader in junior high and high school, an activity that is very hard on the body. Dr. P encouraged homeopathic approaches to alleviating pain associated with injuries and general wear and tear such as Epsom salt baths and strange yet very effective stretches and exercises targeting problem areas, rather than immediately writing prescriptions for muscle relaxers or pain killers. This taught me at a young age to first focus on healing what ails me instead of masking symptoms with drugs, something my liver and kidneys (and all my healed injuries) are thanking me for today. But the biggest impact Dr. P has made on my life was her approach to my ADHD. She suggested an alternative therapy very new at that time called biofeedback (sometimes called neurofeedback). In brief, you train your brain to focus based on keeping specific brain waves within a certain threshold. Instead of being doped up on Ritalin etc., I became able to calm down and focus when I needed to, and could be my fun self the rest of the time. This worked wonders for me, and long story short I graduated with High Honors from the University of Michigan and am currently pursuing my PhD in Biomedical sciences at Harvard Medical School. I know now that Dr. Pokriefka's alternative approaches are rooted in actual science, and I want to thank her for healing my body, fixing my brain, and inspiring me. Love you Dr. P! Dr. P has been both my childrens pedi for almost 4 years now. She is always in the room in a timely manner and never rushes our apt. She always is very friendly and interacts with the children. She answers all my questions and gives at home oragnic suggestions but always perscribed the proper medicine when necessary.
