About Elias A Zias
Reviews for Elias A Zias
My father was referred to Dr. Zias for Heart Bypass surgery. Unfortunately, Dr. Zias was out of country during that time and we had to wait for him as we were told he’s the best surgeon but we thought waiting would just further complicate my fathers health. Today, I’m thankful that we waited as Dr. Zias really is best at what he does. Great human being. His staff is also very cooperative, his assistant and his PA.

My husband was scheduled for a catherization at NYU Langone in Brooklyn, from that procedure he was told he required triple bypass and was recommended Dr. Zias. All patients from NYU locations outside of the main NYU campus in the city get referred there. Days before we met with another surgeon at another hospital who explained the surgery, post-op care, etc. We were definitely pleased but were open to a second opinion. We met with Dr. Zias. He explained the process, explained that the patient would be on a heart lung machine during surgery and then sent to the recovery room. He then continued to say his patients are discharged the same day, they return to the office the following day, so 48 hours after surgery. He did not recommend to my husband who was a smoker at that point, he should quit before surgery. Something that should be beneficial to any patient of any kind. If I remember correctly, he said "you can cut it down to 10 cigarettes a day". I was floored to hear that. Disclaimer: I know how difficult it can be to quit smoking at any point, but from a surgeon I would have hoped for a little bit more urgency. I also know for someone who was on a heart lung machine for 3+ hours should not be going home immediately after surgery. From being in the hospital setting as an employee myself, I know for a fact he would have been readmitted for low O2 levels, low blood pressure, etc. Ultimately we decided to pick a different surgeon and we are definitely glad we did. Going through the surgery with my husband and seeing the recovery process, the Dr. Zias approach to MAJOR open heart surgery isn't feasible. My dad was supposed to come in for a simple bypass per Dr zias , ended up have severe complications, practically “dying” for a few second TWICE while in icu at nyu and being told that a pace maker would help.. which it did not. Next thing you know, he is not the same person... he had a problem walking so he was placed at nyu rehab facility shortly after he was transferred to the upper east side facility for further PT, after his first night there I get a call in the morning that he had no pulse and was rushed to the hospital. Long story short, I lost my dad.. if I knew having him have this bypass would lead to his death I would have NEVER allowed him to walk in and get abypass. Dr zias told me that he will be fine. He underestimated my dad’s situation, and like I said prior to bringing my dad into surgery he was just fine being home, and im pretty certain he would be ALIVE now with me if I never Allowed him to get surgery and be operated by Dr Zias. Dr. Elias Zias is an outstanding surgeon.
He’s the best Cardiothoracic surgeon that I’ve ever met. I had open heart surgery in 2011 and my problems were not all fix. Dr. E. Zias did my second open heart surgery and was able to fix all my heart problems. He provided the best care that I needed. Definitely recommend him.
He is a master at what he does. One of the best cardiologists/surgeons in NYU and maybe even New York. He saved my father's life with a 5-bypass surgery, and he made us feel so confident and safe that we walked in and out with a smile. But the best part of all is that beyond his profession, he is a good person inside too. Thank you Dr. Zias He is a master at what he does.
