Dr. Emily Ruth Dodwell

We have been seeing Dr Dodwell for our little guy for hip dysplasia and will continue to see her until our little guy is out of the woods. Naturally we always have lots of questions and she has been very informative and has carefully explained everything to us along the way. She has taken her time to explain every step in detail which has been super helpful. The nurses and all staff at her practice have also all been so great. They have all made this difficult part of parenthood as smooth as it could possibly go. The wait times are always very little which is really great when bringing your baby to an appointment. I was underwhelmed with Dr. Dodwell's bedside manner, but at the end of the day, it's about competency. I wish I could say I felt she was, but I trusted my gut and got a second opinion for my 1 month old baby, which completely contradicted Dr. Dodwell's. I am writing now over a year later where the follow-up confirmed she did not need the treatment she was going through under Dr. Dodwell (which was costing thousands of dollars). Would not recommend. I struggle to put into words how much Dr. Dodwell has helped our family. Her confident knowledge, her calm disposition, her bedside manner, her surgical skill-it has all blown us away. I cannot recommend Dr. Dodwell enough. I happily travel hours to see her because she is an expert in her field and it shows. HSS is lucky to have her, and we are lucky to be her patients! Dr Dodwell is an exceptional specialist. When I brought my 9 month old daughter to Dr Dodwell in summer of 2019 she expertly diagnosed my baby with septic arthritis - a very serious infection in her hip that was missed by her pediatricians. She booked my baby for surgery the very next morning followed by an in patient stay at HSS. My daughter has been under Dr Dodwell’s care since then and we are so thrilled to see her running, jumping and perfectly recovered after such a scary health episode. I will be forever grateful to Dr Dodwell for recognizing these signs in my baby who was unable to communicate with us and for everything she did to fix and heal her. Dr. Dodwell is an excellent human being, beyond her excellent professional service, that has not discussion. Excellent doctor! I could see amoung the consultation, that the doctor is concerned with explaining to the children what is happening and their recovery, also she listen to them, something that is very important and valuable in a consultation with kids, not only parents should be clear what is going on. Explaining to the children the situation turns out to be a great help in their recovery process. Finally I must say that her pleasant smile gives a lot of peace of mind and human quality, that is very needed in a medical process with our kids. Thank you! Right before my 13-year-old daughter’s ballet performance, which she had taken many months to prepare for, we found out she had a large bone cyst (possibly very rare) in her heel. Not only did she have to give up her ballet recital in the last minute, she had to go under the knife and endure a long rehabilitation period. We needed the best pediatric orthopedic surgeon who can not only cure this but also put her back on dancing successfully. We were told Dr. Dodwell is the expert in this field. Her diagnosis, operation skill, bedside manner, and after care, were just wonderful. We couldn’t be happier. My daughter is finally back with dancing and aiming to perform at the next recital within a year after the surgery! I would give 10 stars! Thank you, brilliant Dr. Dodwell, and all the caring HSS staff members! From my daughter: For months, I had prepared for my annual dance performance and was beyond excited to preform with my friends to showcase my hard work. But one night, I felt an overwhelming pain in my foot, and after hours in the ER, we were referred to Dr. Dodwell. She diagnosed my condition and scheduled me for surgery in less than a week since we first met. Thanks to her speedy work, I was happily able to attend my middle-school graduation and vacation to Japan shortly after my procedure. Dr. Dodwell then helped me get through the months of frustrating rehabilitation with hours of weekly physical therapy. But through it all, I could not be more grateful to have a doctor who helped me get through it every step of the way. Was referred to Dr. Dodwell by our pediatrician whom I trust implicitly for my 7 year old son's fractured elbow. Excellent experience from top to bottom with Dr. Dodwell and her HSS staff. Everyone we encountered was helpful, knowledgeable, and reassuring to my son who was anxious from the start. Would highly recommend.

Very misleading situation Dr. Dodwell is a Doctor in a hospital. Border line a SCAM! My daughter had a hand fracture, we needed to find a local doctor that could provide evaluation of the fractuare healing and removal of the cast. We choose Dr. Dodwell due to the fact that she was an IN NETWORK Doctor of Empire Blue Cross. When we visited we were promopted to pay a co-pay at the entrance by the assistant and were given a standard financial form to sign. At the second visit an Xray and Cast removal was performed. The charge of $572 was done as an outpatient service for special surgery- enabling the Insurance to place the charge to the dedactuble aVery misleading situation Dr. Dodwell is a Doctor in a hospital. After visiting many doctors in various states for a second opinion on my son's conditions, I was led to Dr. Dodwell. She has given me hope that my son's conditions due to CP can be improve. She is very transparent and thorough.

Dr. Dodwell performed surgery on my 14 yo daughter and did an excellent job. I highly recommend her.

My son was told he would probably be wheelchair bound due to his leg deformities. Dr. Dodwell performed 9 surgeries in 10 hours. After many months of physical therapy he is walking with a cane. She is exceedingly intelligent and very well versed in her field. She was kind, compassionate and willing to spend as much time with us as we needed. We will never be able to thank her enough! I would highly recommend Dr. Dodwell to anyone in need of a pediatric orthopedist. Dr. Dodwell first treated my son seven years ago for a leg injury resulting from a skiing accident. Her care and attention to detail was spot on. She always took her time to explain our son's condition and treatment to us -- we never felt rushed or hurried in anyway. Since then Dr. Dodwell has treated my son for two other broken bones and on each occasion her care and attention were exemplary. Her staff is the perfect combination of warm and professional as is the staff and technicians at Hospital for Special Surgery. I would not hesitate to see Dr. Dodwell for my children's orthopedic needs. I would highly recommend Dr. Dodwell to anyone in need of a pediatric orthopedist. My 3 year old daughter broke her leg and I wanted to find a specialist that could explain to me the implications and healing process. Dr Dodwell did an amazing job at that and the HSS is a hospital that gives a very professional impression. All their staff was friendly and focused on reducing waiting time. They have a very efficient system. Only complaint I would have is one of the nurses that works with Dr. Dodwell started doing a diagnosis which was wrong and which Dr Dodwell corrected.

Dr. Dodwell performed emergency surgery for our son's elbow fracture at New York Presbyterian Hospital. We did follow up at her regular office at HSS. We've seen her many times during our son's recovery. From our first meeting with her in the emergency room through each of our office visits with her, we've been thoroughly happy with the interaction. We trust her completely and feel blessed that she was the doctor on call when our son needed surgery.

Dr. Dodwell uses a nurse practitioner who makes the initial assessment and states what she thinks the treatment plan will be. Dr. Dodwell comes in after the NP's initial review and does a 1 minute review. She sent my daughter off for x-rays and never returned. The NP gave us the treatment plan. Go out-of-network and see another HHS doctor if you have a choice.
