Dr. Gautam Siram

Dr. Siram and his team performed my first (left) hip replacement in August 2017 at Sibley Hospital when I was living in Washington, DC. I was so pleased with the results (I was commuting to work by bus and taking long walks along the C&O canal within a few weeks) that I saw fit to travel from my new home in Stockholm, Sweden to Washington in July 2021 for Dr. Siram to replace my “other” hip. It has only been one month and today, I walked three miles in a forest near my home, climbed a bunch of stairs, did my PT exercises, worked a few hours without any discomfort, BBQd outdoors and cleaned up afterwards. All a way of saying I'm back to my usual routines - I feel better than I’ve felt for years - and I’m “off” all of my prescription meds. Thank you, Dr. Siram, Ashley, Suzanne, and Jara for taking such good care of me these past weeks, and for planning and organizing my surgery from six time zones away (I now live in Sweden) - no easy feat, I’m sure - and arranging my preop tests, covid tests, and follow up appointments for me on short notice. Everything went like clockwork. Thank goodness I won’t require a 3rd hip replacement, but if I did, you know where I’d go.

Dr. Siram may be an excellent surgeon, but when it comes to followup care post surgery, his practice is a MAJOR disappointment. I was discharged from his surgery center less than three hours after my surgery began, given some printed instructions and .... that was it. No one from Dr. Siram's office ever called to check how I was doing, and when I called for advice/help with pain management, the only people I heard back from were medical assistants who gave me conflicting and confusing info on what drugs I should be taking and how often I should be using them. It took three full days to have a badly need prescription for painkillers correctly called into my pharmacy. Total knee replacement is a painful surgery so it doesn't seem unreasonable to expect a surgeon or other doctor to be available to help manage that pain in the immediate aftermath. That was decidedly NOT what happened. Unless you're looking for a DIY experience, I suggest looking for another surgeon,

I am so impressed with Dr. Siram and extremely satisfied with my experience with him. From my first visit, my surgery, then follow-up visits, I had nothing but amazing treatment from Dr. Siram and his staff. He put me at ease, answered all my questions (sometimes the same questions), always friendly, polite and professional. Just a wonderful doctor. Dr. Siram and his team performed my first (left) hip replacement in August 2017 at Sibley Hospital when my family and I were living in Washington, DC. I was so pleased with the results - I was back in my office and taking long walks along the C&O canal within a few weeks - that I saw fit to travel from my new home in Stockholm, Sweden to Washington in July 2021 for Dr. Siram to perform my second (right) hip replacement. So far, so good. Because I traveled alone, Dr. Siram’s office put me in touch with Grand Oaks, an assisted living facility adjacent to Sibley Hospital, where I stayed for one week after my surgery until I was back on my feet again. I later moved into a hotel for another three weeks and continued with physical therapy at Sibley 2-3x/week before returning safely and uneventfully to Stockholm. In conclusion, it was four weeks ago today since my surgery and I walked three miles in a forest near my home today, climbed a bunch of stairs, did my PT exercises, worked, BBQd and cleaned up. All a way of saying I'm back to my usual routines. I’ve already phased out most of my prescription meds and I’ll stop using them altogether in a few days. Dr. Siram is unquestionably an absolutely outstanding surgeon. While his training and surgical outcomes are fantastic, his caring, listening, attention also get top marks. He clearly loves his work and is greatly respected by the medical community. During my initial visit, he took his time reviewing my medical issues and carefully discussed all treatment options. He never pushed for surgery, through that was the route I would choose to fully enjoy a planned month of hiking out west and to be able to quickly return to my previous very active lifestyle. A few hours after surgery, I was on my way home having walked with a walker, including up and down steps. The next day a friend went with me via Uber to my first PT appointment. I am now only 3 weeks out from my surgery and I am already walking a mile with very little discomfort. Amazing! Not surprisingly, everyone I know who has been fortunate to have found Dr. Siram are equally pleased and every practitioner only has glowing remarks about his professional expertise. I only wish I had found Dr. Siram two years ago. Unfortunately, that time Dr. Anthony Unger was my surgeon. I put off my two knee replacements because I could not find a doctor that I was comfortable with; A Doctor Who had excellent bedside manners, who was understanding, empathetic, and advocated for his patients. This was the best experience one could hope for at any medical practice and from any physician. I have had three hernia surgeries, a varicose seal, cataract surgery, tooth implants (or is it teeth) and with Dr. Siram a partial knee replacement. The mechanics of dealing with the practice were flawless; the surgery a great success, my convalescence easy and rehab successful. Dr. Siram is available via email at almost any time and I used it liberally to adjust my medications and exercise routines. -When I asked him, at 10 on a Friday night, if I could drink at a wedding that weekend as I had stopped pain killers three days before, he answered in ten minutes "By the time you finish the email the glass should be poured." His PA is as terrific, they make a great team, I would recommend his work and his practice to anyone. This was the best experience one could hope for at any medical practice and from any physician. Dr. Siram is a wonderfully skilled surgeon who also listens carefully to his patients. 48 hours after my hip replacement I was comfortable walking up and down the hall of my home without a walker, cane or crutches. Dr. Siram was right on with everything he di. The hip replacement was over before I knew it and I was up and walking out of the facility. Its been 4 weeks and I'm to go all out but I will wait till I see him in three weeks. He followed up with personal phone call and his staff was helpful as well.. Dr. Siram did a full knee replacement for me. He was attentive and patient with me when we met to prepare for this, answering all of my questions and giving me a thorough run through of my options and possible outcomes. He was equally attentive on the day of the surgery, which was done at the Capital Orthopedic Surgery Center in Germantown, MD. I was in and out of surgery in just over an hour and walking an hour after that. His office staff and the staff at the surgery center were just great. I was well prepared ahead of time with their thorough instruction and well taken care of after. All in all, I felt like I was in the best of hands from beginning to end. Dr Siram replaced my right hip in November. The surgery went without issue, and I was resuming normal activities shortly thereafter. Dr Siram and his entire team were very responsive and professional and I would certainly recommend them to someone considering orthopedic surgery.

I was recommended to Dr. Gautam Siram via an Orthopedic Surgeon that I had previously seen for approximately 20 years. As a child, due to major hip dysplasia (essentially I had no hip ball and no hip socket) and a leg length discrepancy of 3-4 centimeters, I went through 4, major hip reconstructive surgeries which ultimately required me to recover in a cast, post-surgery that started at my bellybutton, covered both legs and extended to the top of my knee. I was bed ridded each time for months and had to learn how to walk each time after my muscles atrophied while fixated in the cast post-surgery. Coming out of the surgeries, my hip was okay for the time being but I had a leg length discrepancy of roughly 3-4 centimeters. It had been approximately 15 years since my last major surgery and as a result of limping, loss of function, pain and deterioration, I was referred to Dr. Siram for a highly complex total hip replacement. I was given a couple different referral options, however, once I met with Dr. Siram, I decided to forgo seeing any other doctors for a consultation and schedule the surgery as soon as possible. Dr. Siram was fantastic; initially I was scared, apprehensive, upset and frustrated simply at the idea that I had to potentially undergo a major hip surgery (i.e. I was probably not the easier patient). He was understanding, compassionate, reassuring and throughout the process, Dr. Siram, the P.A. Ashley Walton, their office and the Massachusetts Avenue Surgery Center were all incredible. Post-surgery with Dr. Siram, there was no cast, there was no required period of bed rest, I was walking hours after surgery, I was climbing stairs after surgery and I was on my way home the day of surgery. Within two weeks, I was able to walk completely on my own, the incision healed and I could already tell that I was better than before. I cannot thank Dr. Siram enough and I would recommend him to anyone who is considering. Dr. Siram is in my opinion the new super star in full hip replacement in the Washington DC area. The surgical procedure he uses spares muscle and tendons which allowed an amazingly quick recuperation for me. I was able to walk without walker or cane within 3-4 days.

My right knee surgery was very challenging but Dr. Siram and his PA Ms. Walton. Dr. Siram and Ms. Walton were very caring and reassuring. I consider myself very fortunate to have this surgical team as my providers. I highly recommend Dr. Siram.

I had a Total Knee Replacement (TKA) on June 17,2020. My knee feels so much better; I need to have the second one done soon. Dr. Siram is a great doctor! He answered all of my questions beforehand and put my mind at ease. My friend highly recommended Dr. Siram. He did both her knees years ago. I’m very pleased with his work and the staff who works with him.

Second hip replacement by Dr. Siram and same result - surgery at 7 am, home by 2 pm and no pain meds needed at all because absolutely zero pain or discomfort. Using a cane two weeks after surgery only because instructed to since able to walk totally normally without.

Dr. Siram is friendly, takes time with his patients and never makes you feel rushed. He saved me what I believe was years of pain by diagnosing me quickly and directing me to the specialist I needed. I trust him and will continue to see him for all my orthopedic needs.

My knee replacement did not go so well and when I mentioned my concerns...his staff became aggressive and I decided to remove myself from the negativity. His knee replacement has had to be corrected by an additional surgery

Biking from the 2nd or 3rd week, and now squatting with light weights, swimming, etc. There was secondary soft tissue pain for a while, but my hip feels strong. Dr. Siram impressed me from the start with his excellent bedside manner and thoroughness. I'm only 50, but have had much experience with orthos, and he's up there with the best. My only complaint is the sometimes inconsistent administrative staff, which is expected from a large practice. I won't diminish his stars because of that. I love Dr. Siram. He is a great hip surgeon. God gave him a gift to help other and he is carrying out his specialty. I was in so much pain and could hardly walk. He has given me the freedom to walk after surgery if through I know it a healing process I am so very happy and blessed.

I went to Dr. Siram to consult with him about minimally invasive knee replacement surgery. I found him to be very personable, knowledgeable, and thorough. In fact, he pointed out that I my be able to get by with a partial knee replacement instead of a total knee replacement, something that my previous ortho doctor did not point out. But just to be certain, he sent me for an MRI to check for any hidden damage, which my other doctor also did not suggest.

I had partial knee replacement and it was very successful. Since then I have recommended several friends and they too have had knee replacements and are also very pleased.

Dr. Siram and his team are extremely caring and compassionate . I have had both hips replaced and the surgery went smoothly and my recovery was quick and almost painless.

Dr. Siram is a very very good orthopaedic Dr. Who's knowledge and experience is instrumental in my and others speedy recovery.

Dr. Siram is probably the best orthopedist in the DC area for knee and hip replacement surgery. His advanced post-residency fellowship training in minimally invasive techniques means his patients heal more quickly with less pain, and reach their recovery goals in less time. On top of that, he is compassionate and highly available to his patients. As a physician myself, I would recommend him enthusiastically.

My Physical Therapist says that Dr Siram’s patients are noticeably better after surgery and was not surprised at my fast and excellent progress. Dr Siram also uses an app that gets you an answer to questions/concerns immediately. Twice I had questions and got answers in 8 mins and 12 mins, even on weekend. Beyond comforting! Will go to Dr Siram soon for second knee.

I needed hip replacement surgery on both hips having issues as a result of Paget’s disease. I had my right hip done in March and my left hip done in September. Thanks to Dr. Siram who did both hips the quality of my life has improved tremendously. Not only is he an expert at his job, he is polite and answers every question clearly and thoroughly. I recommend him highly to anyone considering hip replacement surgery.

Dr. Siram's care and attention to my case has been exemplary, both pre- and post surgery. This has been the first and only major surgery that I have ever experienced in my life, and I am thankful that I was fortunate to find Dr. Siram to shepherd me through the process.

My experience with Dr. Sir am was great, he explained the procedure of the hip relpacement, and insure me that I would feel much better after the surgery. The next morning after surgery I was able to stand without the discomfort I had before..

Dr. Siram is excellent. Two weeks after a full knee replacement by him I cannot believe how good I feel. Though I'm still healing, I am fully mobile and have been off any kind of prescription pain-killer for over a week. He is a very clear, thoughtful and enjoyable communicator and attentive to his patient's needs, emotional as well as otherwise. He is a relatively new member of a practice that I have gone to for years and in which I have complete faith and trust; The picked the right person!

Dr Siram is a great doctor and I would strongly recommend him. His skill in the operating room is amazing. My PT told me Dr Siram's patients recover quicker because of the extra care he takes in the Operating Room. His out of OR skills are strong too. Dr Siram is personable, approachable, and genuinely cares about his patients. I traveled from Florida at my own expense to have both knees done by Dr. Siram. I think he's that good!

Dr Siram has the rare quality of truly listening. All my concerns were thoughtfully addressed which enabled me to form realistic expectations of the outcome of treatment. And, based on the outcome of the surgery, I have to conclude that Dr Siram is an excellent surgeon!

Dr. Siram replaced my right knee. He is amazing. Pain was much less than expected and totally manageable. Walking the day of the surgery, only one night in hospital. Very fast recovery. Dr. Siram is in touch with his patients everyday with a special app for two weeks before and two weeks after surgery. He tells you every day what to do and what to look for. After two years of working with amazing professionals in PT, accupucture, massage therapy, body - mind integrative medicine and pain management for a bum hip, I decided to seek out thoughts on a surgerical options and upon a recommendation saw Dr. Siram about a month ago. An X-ray revealed a condition that was easily described by Dr Siram as one that required surgery. His manner, professional approach and experience as well as that of his PA Ashley, left me convinced that it was time for a new hip! From there, it was amazing clinical and customer service experience, thanks to Josh and Jackie. Three weeks out from a new hip, Dr. Siram and his team have checked into me EVERYDAY and helped me manage post surgical pain (miminal) and PT with legitimate care....including dropping off a script at my house....yes, in 2017 a house call! The result has been life changing. Bottom line, Dr. Siram is excellent, his staff is great and has been very helpful, my hip replacement and experience 2 weeks post surgery is great. Great physician, excellent communicator, very patient and insightful. I'm thankful that he's my doctor.

Dr. Gautam Siram is a young dynamic orthopedic surgeon. His diagnosis and surgery skill is phenomenon. He is a very compassionate professional to the well being of a patient. efficient, forthright, friendly, calm very personable answers questions with you feeling like you are imposing. He and his clinical staff are terrific. But, ah ha there is always a "but", front desk staff need to be more friendly and answer the phones more efficiently. the wait time on hold is way too long for a physician's office.

From the initial consult throughout surgery and follow up, Gautam and Ashley have been consistently caring, competent and thorough. They were always available thru the portal to answer all of my questions quickly and thoroughly. I had seen three doctors prior to Dr Siram for opinions -and was so confident, trusting and impressed with him that I scheduled my surgery (hip replacement) on the way out of leaving his office. Dr. Siram did a partial right knew replacement on April 10, 2017. I now get up in the morning and I am able to walk again without pain. Before that I was barely able to walk when I awoke. Not only would I recommend him to anyone else he will be doing my left knee later this year. Dr. Siram and the team he works with in the office and at Sibley Hospital started prepping me a month before my operation to make sure I had a safe and successful operation. I just had anterior hip-replacement and highly recommend Dr. Siram. What a wonderful experience this has all been, from my first meeting with Dr. Siram, the staff in his office to the staff at Sibley, love the app they use to keep in communicate that reminds and encourages. He is a good doctor and very pleasant. Maybe explaining procedure would be one recommendation. Looking it up on Goggle is one way but hearing it in office would be a better experience.

I had a total hip replacement surgery with Dr. Siram and it couldn't have gone more smoothly. I would recommend him without any hesitation.

Dr. Siram is a very skilled and highly effective surgeon. I was looking for a specific procedure - to have both hips done at the same time. He has performed this procedure a number of times and agreed that i was a good candidate for this. The surgery went well and the recovery is going better than predicted. I am 2 weeks out of the surgery and walking on my own. Dr Siram checks in with me every day winch is comforting - asks me questions and answers mine. I would recommend him highly.

Dr. Siram is an excellent surgeon. He cared about me and how my condition effected my life. He personally got involved in the expediting my surgery. He has an excellent people skills and was never rushed in his approach to my case. I would recommend him without reserve to future patients.

I have had a partial knee replacement twice with two excellent doctors. Even so, my experience with Dr. Siram was outstanding - and I was on my feet MUCH sooner than with the other doctor. Better preparation, better follow up, more accessibility for questions, and better results. Highly recommended.

I recently had my hip replaced with Dr. Siram. My recovery has been nothing short of amazing. Dr. Siram and his team have been extremely responsive to any and all concerns that I have had during this stressful time. I did my surgery on an outpatient basis. I was somewhat reluctant to do my surgery in anything but a hospital. I was very pleasantly surprised at the ease, comfort and extreme cleanliness of the surgery center. Every total knee replacement story I have ever heard or read -- and there have been many -- has involved great pain and, long hospital stays and lengthy recovery. By stark contrast, Dr.Siram's total knee replacement for me was painless,and quick -- an hour and a half on the table, 2 days in the hospital, 3 or 4 days with a walker and two weeks with a cane.
