Dr. Harpreet Singh Bawa

Dr. Bawa performed my right hip replacement in 2021 during Covid using a robot, and it was a success. So when time came to make plans for the left hip replacement, Dr. Bawa was the only surgeon that I would consider to do this robotic-assisted total joint replacement. The surgery was performed at the TOSH just two weeks ago, and in my opinion, this second surgery was even more of a success than the first. Healing time seems shorter, less bleeding, even less pain. For me, Dr. Bawa is an outstanding surgeon and I recommend him to my family and friends without hesitation. I stayed overnight at the TOSH and I cannot say enough about the excellent service and the kind nursing staff I received there.

Total Knee Replacement. Other doctors told me I "wasn't ready." I got a second opinion from Dr. Bawa and went ahead. Best decision ever. Dr. Bawa is skilled, and his team is great. TOSH team was excellent. Recovery is somewhat challenging but after 8 weeks my knee feels much better. The residual pain is far better than the pain pre-surgery.

I highly recommend Dr Bawa should you need a hip replacement. After two weeks to the day I was on a putting green practicing. I can say, the surgery did not make me a better putter, but I never expected the progress I’ve made to come so quickly. I haven’t experienced pain since the surgery, but what I consider to be discomfort.

Dr. Bawa is very detailed and therefore he makes sure your surgery is successful by having all the necessary detailed measurements, and that you’re prepared with education and specific pre-operative instructions. Following surgery you will stay at TOSH where the care and facilities are first class. Nurses are so kind and attentive! Food is amazing! Facilities are beautiful and immaculate! My PT who has come to my home afterwards has been terrific at helping me get through the pain. Dr. Bawa and his staff check on me daily electronically. It’s a painful surgery for sure, but I’m glad Dr. Bawa did my surgery.

Sincerely one of the best experiences I’ve ever had with a doctor. I’m grateful I was referred to him, and I hope he knows how much better my life is because of his work. To be able to walk, confidently, and without pain, is one of the greatest gifts I have ever got.

The only problem I had was with the pain medication. Initially it was not working to reduce the pain and it took too long to correct the issue. My suggestion is, that before one leaves the hospital all questions regarding medications should be reviewed by the patient and the discharge physician. Also, that all the relevant phone numbers for direct communication with the doctors be given out. Please, remember, do not assume anything! Make sure all your questions are answered before being discharged from the hospital. And to have direct phone numbers is most important.

My experience exceeded my expectations. Dr. Bawa and team have been extremely attentive. The process allowed for a smoother and quicker recovery than my peers have experienced with other doctors. I will need the other hip replaced and would consider no one else but Dr. Bawa. My sincere thanks to Dr. Bawa and team.

Dr. Bawa may be a great surgeon, but he is not the one to give you synvisc or orthovisc shots. 2 out of 4 times ended up with throbbing pain for days that kept me up at night, and last time he seems to have hit a nerve which, three days after the shot, left my foot numb for several months - which begot MRIs of the foot, ankle, knee and even lumbar region and much wasted time and cost. But, as per the Occam's razor principle, the answer is the most likely one - he hit a nerve in the knee when giving the shot. And when confronted with the numb foot issue, would have been welcome for him to fess up to the possibility that he had hit a nerve - nothing of the kind.

Dr Bawa is a very skilled surgeon with a winder team. PA Lauren is very knowledgeable and informative, answering all my questions.

Dr Bawa and his associates have taken my life back several years in terms of my ability to do the things I was unable to do in the past. From the first meeting to final post-op appt. they gave me the best care imaginable. I was limping on my right hip and unable to perform even the simplest of tasks. Now I'm back at the gym, running on the roads and riding my bike with ease. I may get my left hip replaced as well, that's how confident I am in his work.

Dr. Bawa replaced my right hip in July 2022 and my left hip in January 2023. Both hip replacements went well. Minimal pain. Minimal scaring. Fast recovery. No complications. I waited more than eight years to get my hips replaced and when I met Dr. Bawa I was fully confident in his ability with robotic assistance. He is a great surgeon and I’ve felt well cared for by his team. They check in daily. Surgery was about an hour long, I was up walking an hour later then went home! I’m not saying recovery is a walk in the park, but a little more than two weeks out I’m walking without assistance and getting stronger every day. Dr. Bawa is a great orthopedic surgeon and has a great support staff. I had a total hip replacement two weeks ago and my recovery is going well. Dr. Bawa and his staff gave me literature to help me how to prepare for the surgery and recovery. Before and after surgery, Dr. Bawa also used an electronic email system called "Get Well Loop" to send information and to check in with me daily about my recovery to ask if I had any questions. Also, Dr. Bawa's team delivered the items I needed for recovery including an icing machine to reduce swelling, battery-operated compression socks, a walker, and a raised toilet. Finally, Dr. Bawa had a nurse physical therapists sent to the house after surgery.

I just have to say that having a knee replaced is never good but all of the doctors staff and facilities where so professional.

My left hip pain developed last year and progressively became worse to the point of a significant limp. I saw Dr. Bawa and underwent a left total hip on Feb. 3, 2022. At four weeks post op I was back to my six mile hike going up some difficult hills. I am pain free and playing golf again. Once I decided that my painful arthritic knee had deteriorated to the point that I could no longer function, I came to the realization that a knee replacement surgery was in my future. I had a knee replacement on my left knee several years ago with another surgeon. The recovery was long and painful. I was hesitant to get my right knee done because of my previous experience. I couldn't put it off any longer so Dr. Bawa did my right knee using the robotic process. It has been a totally different recovery! I did not have the pain I had before. I've had many surgeries and this experience was the best by far. Dr. Bawa is an expert and I'm so glad he is my surgeon. Very rushed appointment; no explanation of condition, care, or limitations. He was very rough when probing areas of discomfort, causing me pain. Perhaps he is only interested in patients he can perform surgery on.

Dr. Bawa did a great job on me. I needed both hips replaced and had them done within 5 months of each other. If you are searching for a great surgeon your search should stop here. I went to 3 other doctors before Dr. Bawa. It is important to find out which method of surgery is used to replace your hip. Dr. Bawa takes the anterior approach which is going through the front of the joint and he uses a robot to prepare the joint. I am a chronic pain patient with pain all over and I can safely say that the pain from these surgeries was much less than I expected. What ultimately made me choose Dr. Bawa was how safe he, his physician assistant Lauren, his surgery scheduler Bina, and Lauren who is the one that brings you back to your room, all made me feel. Lauren made me feel at ease because she is so friendly and sweet, the P.A. Lauren will take time to answer all your questions, and I really felt that Dr. Bawa cared about what he is doing to reduce some of my pain. They are the best.

I’ve had wonderful experiences with SCOI, but this doctors negligence & dismissiveness is a black mark on the entire institute. I have had two surgeries by Dr Bawa for complete hip replacement of both hips. In March 2021 he replaced my left hip. The surgery was a complete success and I was walking two miles per day in just three weeks. In January 2022 he replaced my right hip. The second surgery went just as smoothly and I walked a mile on the eleventh day. However, two weeks after surgery I could not put any weight on the leg. I called Dr Bawa and he saw me immediately. In the next three weeks he ordered an X-ray, CT Scan, and MRI to be sure the surgery was as it should be. No problem there! Confident the surgery was intact he prescribed medication that reduced swelling and reduced the pain allowing me to start physical therapy. Upon starting physical therapy the cause of the pain was identified and treated, providing a quick recovery. The surgery had little or nothing to do with the pain I experienced for those three weeks. I am most grateful to Dr Bawa for the two successful surgeries, but even more grateful for his diligence in ruling out causes for the pain. After the CT scan and MRI showed no irregularities related to the surgery he could have referred me elsewhere but he didn’t. He continued to see me and look for solutions. I would highly recommend Dr Bawa for anyone needing complete hip replacement surgery. Dr. Bawa did a “robotic-assisted” total knee replacement on my left knee at the end of June 2021 and a “robotic-assisted” total knee replacement on my right knee 8 weeks later at the end of August. I visited Dr. Bawa today for a knee pain I've been experiencing for two months. Overall I am very unsatisfied with my visit. He was the type of doctor that the minute steps into the room he is ready to leave. He does not like to spend any time explaining the condition, taking the proper time to look at the X-rays, and MRIs, ready to offer a treatment again without any explanation. He did not even discuss the other treatment options, I had to bring up one based on my friend's recommendation, which then he offered two sentences for it. Productive communication is a big part of the diagnosis and treatment, do not expect that from Dr. Bawa.

Pre-op was informative, no delays in making decisions stressful. Surgerical staff was all over it, caring about my condition. In home care, nursing and physical therapy off the chart. I had a full knee replacement in August performed robotically with Dr. Bawa. I am at 5 weeks post op and can walk normally and am off pain meds. In March, Dr. Bawa replaced my left knee. Six weeks later, in May, he replaced my right knee. I thought the surgeries went very well. Dr. Bawa always responded to my email questions. It is now almost August, and I still have pain in both knees, which means I have questions for Dr. Bawa still. I don't know if it's normal to have pain this far away from surgery, but I have it. I think Dr. Bawa is a very competent surgeon. He does not strike me as particularly communicative about the work he does; at least not in person. I saw him a week or two before the first surgery for a pre-op office visit. Then I saw him very briefly on the day of the first surgery before it was performed. I saw him very briefly at my two-week post op visit because there was a concern I might have blood clots (I did not). Then I saw him again in his office before my second surgery. I did not see him at the hospital on the day of the second surgery. I again saw him briefly two weeks after my second surgery, and briefly at four weeks post second surgery. I mention all of this because if you are looking for a surgeon who will talk you through the process and answer your concerns in person, Dr. Bawa may not be the right surgeon for you. However, if you are looking for someone who does not hold your hand through the process, but rather gets the job done efficiently, he might be exactly the surgeon for you. As I mentioned, Dr. Bawa ALWAYS answered my emails. But I found face to face meetings with him to be rushed, and I did not feel invited to talk about my concerns. I should note that on all of my post-op visits, I saw his assistants more than I saw him, and when I mentioned issues I was having to him, I felt my concerns were dismissed without being heard clearly. He strikes me as a very good surgeon, but one who's interpersonal skills could benefit from some coaching. Would I go to him for more surgeries? Possibly. Dr. Bawa replaced my right knee on April 12, 2021. Thanks to him and the excellent team at Thousand Oaks Surgical Hospital, I am pain-free and walking well.

I highly recommend Dr. Bawa and his team. The experience was great, very professional and the pain is gone and back to walking comfortably a couple of months post surgery. His post surgery process was was very communicative and thorough.

He is a very pleasant and attentive person who answered all of my questions clearly. My hip replacement works so well that I forget that I even had the surgery. Back to normal life of walking without pain or fear of pain.

After three failed surgeries at Cedar-Sinai, Dr, Bawa took one look at the x-ray and knew immediately what was wrong and knew how to correctly revise my left knee . Dr. Bawa did the corrective surgery and finally after years of pain I can walk again pain free.

Getting the news that you need knee replacement is tough - having it told to you a week after COVID shelter in place order was harder. As "elective" surgeries were put on hold I was given cortisone shots to try to get me through until later in the year. I went to Dr. Bawa 6 months later (it was advised to wait 6 months after injections) and his calm way of explaining what is a horrific surgery was truly appreciated. He patiently answered questions, drew me pictures of what to expect, and talked about which knee to go first. After doing some imaging he changed the order but was confident that I could do them 8 weeks apart. I was hesitant but he assured me that if post-op the first knee I decided I needed to wait we would but since the "elective" surgeries has been postponed the resources were being quickly reserved so we saved the spot. Throughout the entire process he and his staff were responsive to questions and made sure that all the equipment and services were in place. He has a post-op email service and checked in with me daily via it for the first month post op. Any questions or concerns I had were answered by email or with a call from him or his staff. Even when I asked to explain the surgery (after it was already done) he did it without any hesitation and my questions (prompted from reading other peoples experiences in a FB group I am in for TKR patients) are answered easily and without judgement. I have recommended him to others and feel that the robotic aspect of his surgeries made my recovery easier than others I know who had traditional knee replacements. I had broken my tibia and knee joint from a very bad fall in August 2020. I had surgery to set my tibia and four months later, a knee replacement. He followed me every step of the way until June 17, 2021. This included Physical Therapy, and numerous visits to the office. He was honest, caring and supportive. I could not have done this without Dr. Bawa or his wonderful staff. I was 72 when I broke my leg, I was 73 when I completed PT. He never gave up on me. My life is normal again! I am 3 months post hip replacement and feeling great due to the efforts of Dr. Bawa and his team. I am impressed with his skill and expertise. He utilized robotics to perform an anterior hip replacement. . My surgery took about 1 hour due to the combination of expertise and technology. Dr. Bawa has a high level of concern for his patients. He listens extremely closely to any questions you may have and provides thorough answers or explanations. He has a very easy going and friendly manner. Prior to surgery I received plenty of useful information that thoroughly prepared me for my surgery. So far, the results are exactly as he predicted. One week after the surgery I received a phone call, at home, from Dr. Bawa inquiring how I was doing. Every day, both pre and now post surgery I receive an email with inquiries about my progress. I had my left anterior joint hip replacement in February with Dr. Bawa, He is an incredible surgeon. Five months later I have no pain and able to walk thanks to him. Dr Bawa and his team explained the total hip replacement procedure and how they would work with me through the recovery. The computer assisted anterior approach procedure went as planned and the results are very good. I recommend Dr Bawa if you need this type of procedure.
