Helena O. Jareb

In individual counseling sessions, Dr. Jareb was very helpful to me in learning how to problem solve and be strategic in my communications, including with people who have high levels of narcissism or self centeredness. She taught me how to disengage in strategic ways.

I had a very very poor experience with Dr. Jareb. if I could give negative stars, I would. First of all, she completely lacks empathy or compassion and functions more as an robot/automaton than a therapist. As a patient, her behavior made me feel invalidated and “less then” by her. Looking back on my time working with Dr. Jareb, I came away worse then before I started going to her. After all, she did tell me that I would likely need to be in regular therapy for the rest of my life (and she got mad at me for cancelling an appointment with 72 hours notice, because she thought my priorities were out of alignment to miss therapy one week because of a family obligation). Maybe that’s her “thing” - make sure people don’t get better under her care so that she has a steady source of income and less client turnover.... may be a financially good business practice, but doesn’t sound good for her clinical license....

Dr. Jareb is friendly and means well. She was able to book me for an appointment the week after I initially contacted her. She knows a great deal about OCD and CBT, but I found her very difficult to work with. She spent most of our sessions monologing. I am not kidding that she could basically talk for 30 or 40 minutes straight, often repeating herself. While I appreciate education, she often got off-topic and I felt over shared about her life. I think I knew more about her than she knew about me by the end. She also would not remember what we had done last session and wouldn't follow up on homework. 2 months in, we still hadn't started working on anything in specific. My last straw was, twice I emailed her before a session to ask that we focus on a certain topic, but she never replied to the email or addressed it in session. Overall, a nice person but disorganized, inconsistent and didn't seem to have a plan for our work. Also, FYI for allergy sufferers, the office smells like mold.

Intelligent, grounded, excellent therapist. Highly recommend.
