Hugh Anthony Gelabert

I first met Dr. Hugh Gelabert in 1992 when he performed my first port-a-cath placement procedure. He was kind and made sure that all of my fears were allayed. Since then he has done all but one of my port procedures. The one he didn’t perform was because I moved away from the area. I would allow him to operate on me and my family at any time. He is such a compassionate and talented man.

I wouldn’t trust any of the review on his page. Not that professional.

I’ve had my injury now for over a year. This guy for some reason is the only vascular surgeon Ucla has. I call to set up an appointment and it’s a 3 month wait! I’m obviously very angry about that, even my Dr. And physical therapist think that’s crazy, but whatever I bite the bullet. My appointment is next Tuesday, this is Friday of memorial weekend so Tuesday being the next business day to have my appointment moved another 2 month! This guy is a clown and ucla is a joke for only having one of these dr’s and making wait time this long in the first place! I highly recommend you look for another vascular surgeon before coming to this guy! Being that unpredictable for a Dr. Who has long of a wait period is not worth it as a patient trust me! I feel so fortunate to have been under the care of such an amazing surgeon. Not only is he one of the leading experts in thoracic outlet syndrome in the United States and world, but he is extremely humble and has great bedside manner. As a veterinarian, I know I can be a difficult client because I ask much more detailed questions that can be time consuming, and I also have high standards for care. He was willing to go above and beyond and consider other surgical techniques other than his standard approach which I’m confident other surgeons would not have been willing to do. In the end I elected to go with the surgical technique that he recommended initially. He made himself available by emails and despite my many questions he never once got frustrated with me. He was there to greet me and ease my fears before they rolled me into surgery, met with my husband after surgery, and spent another hour with me the following day to discuss his findings. If all physicians and surgeons were like him the world would be a better place. My recovery is going much better than predicted and I hope that it continues to do so. Dr. Gelabert is not only a great surgeon, but an OUTSTANDING doctor. What I mean by that is he CARES!!! Dr. Gelabert assisted in my spine-fusion surgery. He made it a point to contact me upon my release from the hospital even though it was a Sunday. When I had problems with the prescriptions at the pharmacy upon my release, his response was IMMEDIATE to try and correct the problems, none of which he caused. My messages regarding any concerns I had were also answered immediately. I have unfortunately had doctors that didn't seem to care and were hard to get in touch with, whether by phone, email or through the UCLA portal. Dr. Gelabert will be there for you. You are in the best hands with him. Thank you so much for taking care of me through my surgery and recovery!!!

Dr. Gelabert performed two rib resection surgeries on me over a decade ago for TOS. I can't imagine a better surgeon and a better bedside manner.

Dr. Gelabert did an exceptional job in treating my wife's TOS. She had a complication due to a poor medical decision made by a previous Dr. and Dr. Gelabert was calming and reassuring throughout the process of trying to resolve things. He did a first rib resection, and my wife's recovery was easy, scarring minimal and her TOS is completely resolved. Very grateful for Dr. Gelabert! Worst doctor ever in the he distroyed my arm he try three time in one week to fix graf for dialysis that he put in my arm it got infected the day after surgery he try for three time each it got infected worse and worse be careful of this doctor

He's a great surgeon!!! Had 2 surgeries with him, 2 rib resections for TOS. Scar is barely visible, very calm n attentive to your needs. Highly recommended!!! ????

Doctor Gelabert did a partial rib resection and scalenectomy (right side) on my daughter because of TOS. He is a caring and skilled doctor who I would recommend. We have had no complications and her TOS is gone on the right side.

Vast knowledge and experience with Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. Incredibly kind and compassionate.

Dr Gelabert repaired my subclavian artery aneurysm in 2010. He was fantastic and my overall experience was exceptional.

Best doctor I have ever seen. He is extremely patient, caring and makes sure you understand everything he is saying. Short wait times, easy appointments, overall an amazing doctor and I would send anyone I know to him. Simply the best!

Dr. Gelabert is likely the best doctor I have ever seen. He is extremely patient, caring, nice, and helpful. I have never met a doctor as thorough and focused as him. It doesn't matter who you are, he will spend the time with you at your appointment. I never once felt rushed, or left with unanswered questions. I had a rib resection done by him and spent 3 days in the hospital, and I would do it 100x over if I had to. He made the whole process so easy. Can't thank you enough Dr. Gelabert!
