We came from Florida for the summer. My husband saw a neurologist in Sarasota that recommended a 4 vertebrae fusion. Saw Dr Chan, he recommended placing a spacer between L4 L5, 4 week recovery period. The surgery was successful and my husband is completely out of back and leg pain. Thank you Dr Chan

Visited me for the 1st time in the hospital after 3 previous surgeries with another neurosurgeon. From the moment he walked in the room he was rude, kurt, and absolutely would not let me finish a sentence or explain a thing. Absolutely the worst experience I have ever had with any doctor ever. I have no idea about his surgical skills but with his bedside manner, I would NEVER let him operate on my me. Shame on you doctor for being so rude and making someone who is already scared and in pain feel worse. I would not recommend this doctor to anyone seeking someone who will listen and have compassion. I just wouldnt recommended him at all!!!

Dr Chan has been my hero for the past 30 years. He has successfully operated on me multiple times. He has also helped many in my family. He is kind and cares deeply about his patients. God bless him.

My husband had 1 back & 2 neck surgeries with Dr. Chan. He was easy to talk to, has a great sense of humor, & an excellent surgeon. He took the time to show us the problem and how to resolve it. All surgeries were a great success. After the first surgery, we requested him again when it was necessary. My husbands scars are amazing...not noticeable at all. We never felt rushed with him either. His office receptionist, Julia, is awesome! Would not hesitate to go to him again if needed.

Holy crap! People who wrote negative reviews weren't kidding! I have NEVER met a doctor as condescending, uncaring and rude as Dr. Chan. He has the worst bedside manner EVER and made me feel like my concerns were ridiculous and unwarranted. He totally gave off a vibe that I was wasting his time. I wish they had a zero star option. Please, do yourself a favor and RUN if you're ever referred to this doctor. Horrible experience!!!

Poor bedside manners. Dr chan unsensitive to patients concerns and questions. Answers in a condescending manner . If he only knew I am a healthcare employee and by judging by this rude manners I would not recommend him to any of my patients or friends.

Dr. Chan, in my personal opinion, is one of the finest and most proficient neurosurgeons around! Not only is he thorough, but he takes the time to explain in detail what problems there are and what he can do to resolve the issues at hand. He is also a most compassionate doctor and definitely a top notch physician in his field of medicine! I have only the highest regard and recommendation for Dr. James Chan and would most definitely refer him to others as they will get the finest and most trusted care by him, with confidence. Dr Chan was very thorough and amiable. He did excellent job on my back surgery. No pain or drainage. I was able to walk and no problems urinating the same day. Uneventful recovery. I am very pleased with Dr Chan and the results of my surgery.

After a serious bicycle accident with 5 broken ribs and 5 days in the hospital, Dr Chan was called in to the hospital to review my CT scans and discovered a new fracture in my cervical spine that was not brought to my attention from a another neurosurgeon. I am grateful that he was so meticulous in his work. I have had previous disk surgeries from very good doctors and I would rate Dr. Chan at the top of his field. By far, this has been the worst Doctor I have ever dealt with. I walked out crying because I couldn't stand his sarcasm, rude personality, and I felt extremely pressured to answer the questions he was asking without him giving me a sarcastic smirk in return. It seemed as if my condition was not important enough to have been seen by him ( which is not my fault considering my primary Doctor felt under qualified to give me any information about my condition). He lacks people skills and sensitivity.
