First appointment to discuss knee replacement with Dr Dowd. He was very informative and left the decision up to me as to when with alternatives if I wanted to delay. Took a lot of time and made me feel comfortable with my decision. Really happy I chose him!

My visit with Dr Dowd was just what I'd hoped for. He treated me with care and respect, presenting options, answering questions, and addressing my cares and concerns. The check-in and out process was extremely efficient, and all staff were friendly and professional.

I was treated very well by the X-ray technician and especially by Dr. Dowd. He took extra time to determine whether my weakness and pain in my left knee was related to the knee or the hip joint. I was very satisfied with the cortisone shot to the knee and relieved with the minor pain I experienced while he administered it.

Office a well oiled machine as usual ...minimal wait time...prompt and thorough answers to questions...wonderful cortisone shot for bone on bone pain...great.advice. Highly recommend

Dr. Dowd is the best physician in the entire Tidewater area that can fix knees. He replaced my right knee 16 years ago with a total new knee and it has been great ever since. He is getting ready to replace my left knee soon. I highly recommend him if you have any kind of knee or hip problem. Thank you Dr. Dowd!

I went to DR. DOWD…w knee pain. Terrified of getting a knee surgery. He’s made me feel comfortable and at ease. No second opinion needed. I’m ready for my knee surgery… I absolutely know I’m in good hands. LETS DO THIS !!

I arrived at the Institute 20 minutes early for my 3:00 PM appointment as instructed for new patients. I filled out the same paperwork as I had already done on-line, in advance of my 1 hour and 45 minute car trip from the Outer Banks of NC. It was around 4:30 before I received x-rays and 4:45 before I actually saw Dr. Dowd. He was very apologetic about being late and seemed surprised that I had been there 2 hours. I was asked to bring my previous x-rays, which were 8 months old; but, no one seemed to want to look at them since they took there own x-rays. It seems impossible to me to think that a first class institute in the 21st century wouldn't realize it is running a two hour delay in services. If someone had just told me a time I would be seen, I could have gone for a wonderful walk on a beautiful day and been fine. If this is the norm at Jordan-Young, they have a problem. Dr. Dowd, once he arrived couldn't have been nicer and more professional.

Dr. Dowd, his staff and the Jordan Young Institute were exceptional in their replacement of my knee and resolution of my knee joint issues. I would recommend him to anyone!

Dr. Dowd did a femur replacement and knee reconstruction on me back in 2003, and it have been working wonderful for me. I've been to other orthopedics, they said Dr Dowd did a great job on my knee and femur. THANK GOD DR DOWD WAS IN THE RIGHT PLACE AT THE RIGHT TIME, WHEN I HAD MY CAR ACCIDENT!!!

From the time I entered the Dr Dowd's office, all of the staff members were friendly, courteous and professional. Both introducing themselves and stating their job titles.

He took time to discuss my problem and address potential treatment.

Great visit as Dr Dowd is 1 special doc to talk with and set things straight. Excellent seeing him and staff and once again resoultion to my problem was fast and forward. Thanks again Dr Dowd and all recs come to you and JYI. Doug Miller

Dr Dowd was very impersonal, remote and disinterested. He was at the door and holding onto the handle before I knew it. I had questions I wanted to ask about other treatment options for knee. When you squeeze so many in you cheat your patients sorely.

Overall experience was excellant. Allow time for check in process with Covid procedures but all aspects of visit was pleasant.

Very clean, friendly and helpful! The whole experience was as nice as it could be.

The office staff in every component was so very pleasant and helpful. This was my first visit and Dr Dowd was great. Straight to the point. The treatment he provided did exactly what he told me, I am a new woman !!! He's my hero !!

I would definetly recommend Dr Dowd to my family members and friends. He was very punctual, but took the time to answer my questions. He made me feel comfortable with the fact that I am having a hip replacement procedure.

As a new patient, did not know what to expect, although he was highly recommended. I was very impressed with Dr. Dowd. His bed side manner was exceptional. He analyzed my condition and gave me hope. I left my appointment feeling that I had found a specialist I could have confidence in that will provide great medical care.

Dr Dowd was personable and did an excellent job of informing me of my options and the viability of each of them. I enjoyed The overall experience however did have to wait almost an hour past my scheduled time. The wait was worth the experience.

This was my first experience with the practice & Dr. Dowd. I was extremely pleased with the service provided - professional, informative & personal. Dr. Dowd took the time to explain the prognosis, options, and the related pros & cons. Thumbs-up all round.

1st visit. Great facility and people. Dr Dowd took time to examine and explain options. Put temporary fix on knees and they feel much better today. Will be back after making decision on more permanent solution.

Dr. Dowd seems to give you his undivided attention and answers all questions. He gives you options and is not just going for surgery.

Dr. Dowd and his staff are very professional and explained my options so that I would understand. We put a plan together to help me eliminate my knee pain. I would highly recommend Dr. Dowd.

My first visit with Dr Levy. He seemed very caring about my concerns, seems to know, cutting thru the red tape and get right to trying to fix our problem. I trust him and will continue my journey with him to see if I can walk better.

Very good visit. Learned that I need to have my knees replaced or repaired and will look further into it after the first of the year. Will make an appointment as soon as I know what I need to do regarding another non related problem. Visit went well and I am very satisfied at this time.

Dr. Dowd isn't quick to run to surgery and tries different approaches for pain relief that doesn't include pain meds. I like his bedside manner and feel confident when going to his office, that I'm receiving the best care possible.

Worst experience I have ever had with a legal physician. I was told after a leg length discrepancy on a total hip replacement-his hardware looked great during massive pain. I now suffer from a S.I. Joint separation that requires a nerve ablation every year or - SI fusion. Dowd’s fault! This ends mobility. After asking him to reevaluate my complaint, I was asked to not ever come back. Of course because I was upset and expressed my concerns in a manner appropriate to not being taken care of by a professional MD. I went to HROSM to see an Orthopedic that actually cared. Dr. Aldridge who had a large part in the invention of the Replacement Dowd used. He was incredible and kind. HE ACTUALLY CARED THAT I WAS IN SUCH PAIN! I was informed that the replacement that Dowd used did not work for all. It certainly did not for me. Dr. Aldridge did a revision and I feel 100% better. You decide what is good for you. I would never return to this practice even if my life depended upon that choice. Short one is Dowd’s. Long one is the revision Dr Aldridge did. Thank You Dr. Aldridge!! You suck Dowd. I never dreamed I would ever allow any doctor to replace my bad knees until a friend told me to call Jordon Young. Dr Dowd replaced both of my knees and right hip. I trust him and his team. Excellent doctor!

Very professional and friendly.listen to my complaints. Then explained the findings on the x-rays. He then gave me several options of treatment and I chose too recieve an injection and go from there. Injection was not as painful as expected. It did the job will call back when ready for surgery.

Dr Dowd explained his diagnosis of my hip and knee pain then showed me the x-rays. They showed that the cartilage is completely gone in both knees. He said that I will need knee replacements but only when I am ready. He offered injections as a possible way to get relief and postpone surgery. He also said that my knees are causing my walk to be affected and that is aggravating the bursitis in my hip. I was pleased to consent to the injections, hoping to get through several months when I believe I could tolerate surgery. My knees and hip have been feeling better so I pray that will continue for several months. Dr. Dowd was personable and I felt he was truly interested in helping me with my pain. Visited Dr. Dowd in 1999 where he took care of a spiral fracture of my femur. Saw him again in 2007 where he replaced by left knee. I am now getting ready to have him replace my right knee and have every confidence based on my past experience with him that I will be very happy with the results and improvement in my quality of life.

My meeting with Dr. Dowd was a very pleasant experience. He has a reassuring demeanor that makes the idea of surgery more tolerable.

My mother had Surgery with Dr. Dowd in 2006 - On her Right knee. Now she is 77 and has pain in her other knee. Yesterday 08/27/2020 I took her back back to Dr. Dowd because she has been in pain in both Knees now as it been 14 years since her original knee surgery and as with age and walking the other one is bothering her. She explained to him and had to remind him that he did her surgery. He could not determine just by looking at his own work. He would only gave her a shot in in the right knee and nothing for the left knee and he was very indifferent to a suffering patient. It broke my heart to see my mother hobble out of there in just as much pain as when she got there. She asked for a RX for the pain and he WOULD NOT GIVE IT TO HER. She is in pain again today. I don't know what to do for her. It pains me. Also there was a hiccup with the front desk.. but I won't go in to details on that ... but the issue I have with Dr. Dowd not treating a patient and letting a patient remain in pain when you have the capacity to assist is contrary to the Oath he took. I went in because I was having pain in what I thought were my hips. They took X-rays, and Dr.Dowd came in and basically said your hips are fine and that was the end of the conversation. I asked if it could be my back and he said “well it could be” I can send you down stairs and get some injections…..but into what? My hips are fine and he never said maybe we should take a look at your back. He then proceeded to tell me that I need to strengthen my core muscles. Dr. Dowd is, hands down, a top tier orthopedic surgeon. His expertise and bedside manner are wonderful, and just what patients need for best outcomes. Dr. Dowd encourages and cares for the "whole patient", which allows a high level of trust and a positive attitude toward his orthopedic care.

I can't say enough about Dr. Dowd. His bedside manner is beyond any expectations that I may of had. He completed aTKR on my left knee and did a beautiful job. It is functioning perfectly.
