Total hip replacement, 5 years ago. I experienced a painfree recovery. I recommend Dr. Nicholson and Stony Brook Orthopedic staff

Dr. Nicholson doesn't participate in Stony Brook Medicine's Patient Portal Messaging, and doesn't do email either. This makes communicating with him more difficult than it could be. And please spare us the "...Thank you for your review of Dr. Nicholson and Stony Brook Orthopaedic Associates. Feedback from our patients is important to us..." because if it was important to you you'd certainly communicate with your patients a heckuva lot better.

Dr Nicholson is so thorough, pleasant, and professional. I had a minimal wait time, saw the wonderful PA Grace, I had X-rays and saw Dr Nicholson right away, and was out of there within a reasonable time. Even with all of my questions and concerns, he addressed them all. I trust his opinion, and will continue to follow up with him.

Both Dr Nicholson and Grace were straight forward and honest with my options about my issues. They exhibited both style and grace..Bravo to both and my sincere compliments....

Everyone connected with my visit was so very nice. Dr. Nicholson made me feel comfortable and was available to answer any questions I had. I appreciate that someone so busy would take the time to talk to me and make me feel like he cared about any concerns that I might have.

Dr Nicholson and Grace his assistant, made us feel very comfortable. They both are knowledgeable and showed great compassion and very helpful in coming up with a resolution for my husband’s pain. Would recommend him for his services.

I had a hip replacement surgery late in the day at 6pm and I was discharged the following day at 2:30 pm. I was walking with a walker after surgery and had little pain and swelling. Three days later I’m walking with walker and feel confident enough to use a cane in a couple of days. I highly recommend Dr James Nicholson as I couldn’t be happier. I was in pain with my arthritic hip and. pups barely stand. Met with one orthopedic doctor who was gruff, unsympathetic and downright nasty. Met with Doctor Nicholson and was impressed with his positivity, his explanation of the procedure and his attention to details. I scheduled my surgery and 2 months later had the surgery. I told the Doctor that I lived alone and my bedrooms were upstairs. He said no worries, I will have you up and walking with 4 hours after the op and will have the PT people teach me how to climb stairs before O leave the hospital…. one night stay and home the next. I walked up my stairs that night! Awesome doctor and great office and professional staff.

Dr Nicholson is the best Othopedic surgeon . I am 71 years old and have had 2 knee replacements. First one 2014 and in weeks I was moving and active it was a complete relief to be able to get out of pain. It changed my quality of life. I could enjoy walking and able to travel again. My second left knee was replaced 2018 why I waited I was disappointed at myself. After the surgery I got my life back both knees without pain was my miracle. Anybody thinking of knee replacement go to him don’t think twice….After surgery go to rehab for 2 weeks stay there it helped me recover quicker and better don’t go home..I have friends 20 or more and spoke to many more that don’t regret going for surgery and be pain free. Dr. Nicholson is a wonderful doctor with an exceptional staff. He has replaced 1 of my knees and will soon do another 1. I have had good and bad doctors through multiple surgeries and Dr. Nicholson is someone to put your trust in.

My visit with Dr. Nicholson was the best doctor appointment I’ve had in years. His staff was excellent. Grace is an awesome PA. This is the worst place you can go to. I will be blogging In the next day or two. The wall of miserable people treating you like you are trying to sneak in. Then the doctor demanding an xray when you just had an xray. Then seeing you an hour after your actual appointment. I would rather die in the street then go back there. Very good first visit. Easy to talk to. Explains the process of surgery. Plenty of information and instructions on the surgery. I feel comfortable and confident with this surgery.

Wonderful treatment from the entire staff. Dr. Nicholson is an exceptional surgeon and extremely personable.

Dr. Nicholson on my first visit exceeded my expectations. He was very understanding of my unique issues concerning me before scheduling a Total Hip Replacement on my left hip. Simply the best, Dr. Nicholson gives each patient great individualized care and the office is run very efficiently. I know about the results of his care from my mother who had a total hip replacement and my best friend who also had a total hip replacement. For myself, he gave me the best advice as to how to best treat my knee issues, and he is not just interested in doing surgery, but he gave me the care I needed and would be the best choice for me. Simply the best! Had my try knee replacement Reality is Therapy is tough for knee replacement. Visited Dr Nick for my left knee and we agreed it would be a better benefit for me if I could get some weight off. He was so kind and did not make me feel bad. Agreed I would get a steroid injection and wait a few months. (I have had injections previously from a Rhumatologist that did not work, however Grace from Dr Nicholson’s gave me a steroid injection and like an angel sent to me it worked! Outstanding surgeon, had knee replacement totally healed in 8 weeks

Dr.James Nicholson performed bilateral knee surgery on me. He was extremely professional throughout the entire process. I feel like I have been given a gift and a new lease on life!! I can walk for miles now..bike ride...go up and down stairs..etc...where as previous I was suffering just getting up from a sitting position. His staff was just as wonderful and helpful. I would highly recommend Dr.James Nicholson! On a side note—I’ve been told by my physical therapists that my stitches were the best that they’ve ever seen!

Three months post surgery I’m very happy with the results. Couldn’t be better. If you want a great surgery this man is the best. Three therapists where I am going for therapy are all amazed at the range of motion. In their words, best in the house. Knee replacement is not easy and you need to do the work for the best results.

THE BEST. Did right knee replacement June 2014. I'll be needing one on my left very soon. He gave me injection in my left knee March 2017, it lasted until October 2018 when I had another. I wouldn't think about going to anyone else.

Should have posted this review a long time ago. Shy of 2 years out since hip replacement. No problems. Would advise anyone in need of hip replacement to see Dr. Nicholson and get it done. Start to finish he's the man. Take it from a truck mechanic he's the best!

Very good Exellent md Did my Knee Replacement surgery 5weeks ago.He took care of me with a tremendous amount of allergies .He makes himself available to me & my family.Although still recuperating &recevingphysical Therapy he remains the perfect MD who will bring me to optimum level of wellness God bless this surgeon.

Dr. Nicholson performed my total knee replacement in March of 2018. I am thoroughly pleased with the outcome. After having a consult with a surgeon at HSS (X-rays took longer than the actual consul), I met with Dr. Nicholson at Stony Brook Orthopedics. He spent a full half hour with me, explaining the pros and cons of having the surgery at such a ‘young’ age (51], answered all my questions, and checked his own surgical schedule for an opening that had become available. Highly recommend!

Horrible customer service. Receptionists were rude and unorganized. A better sense of phone manners when talking to patients would go a long way. Best experience Ive ever had with a Dr . I had both my hips replaced 7 weeks apart fall of '16 and it went flawlessly both times! Practically no pain and was up and walking with in days! Im in my 50's and had been active in sports my whole life until last ten years when the pain started to keep me from doing anything. Dr Nicolson told me my arthritis was very bad but he'd have me back to a full life and that was an understatement. I highly recommend this Dr. and this procedure if you are living with pain. My experience with Dr. Nicholson was extraordinary; I wanted a good result and, wow, did I get one. Yes, we invariably wait in doctors' offices. Big deal -- it's not a fast food restaurant. The results of my knee surgery have exceeded my high expectations. I have heard and seen others who have experienced the same knee replacement surgery. Mine is a model of medical craftsmanship. In 2014 when I had the surgery, I was the first a.m. surgery scheduled. At 10:20 p.m. Dr. Nicholson stopped by my room to check on me. He was exhausted from seven surgeries that day. Dr.Nicholson replaced my knees nine years ago. He did an excellent job. I have had no pain. I can ride a bike, jump, dance and do anything, swim, stand, walk, and I no longer use the cane that I needed for over Fifteen years. I have recommended four people to him,whom have all had excellent reasults. My husband had also seen him. He has an excellent office attitude. He is confident but he is far from rude or arrogant. I can not say enough about this wonderful man and excellent doctor.

I never had any surgery before meeting Dr. Nicholson. I had prior clinical experience and wanted to be sure I was making the best choice. He was highly recommended to me by several surgeons. I had a bilateral knee replacement on Dec.11. He was there with me and my family all the way, gracious and comforting. 4 weeks later I'm on my feet, performing as close to normal as it goes. I'm shocked by how fast my recovery was. In my book, he gets a 10.

Terrible experience! Unorganized and no respect for patient's time. Visited him for a very serious diagnosis which requires surgery and chronic/severe pain. Leaves me waiting for hours just to be told while in the waiting room that he is recommending another doctor and we'd need to reschedule with them. Meanwhile, I've received no treatment or help with the severe pain. Horrible Ethics!! Starting to think Stony Brook passes patients around to get as much money out of our insurance as possible!!! Obviously has no respect for his patients and their time. Waited for hours just to be told while still in the waiting room that he is recommending another doctor. Meanwhile I am still in severe pain and have not been treated yet. Very upset and disappointed. Don't waiste your time unless you have a lot to spare.

Had my right hip replaced 7 weeks following my left hip in aug of '16 ( second surgery in sept of '16) it went easier than the first and I was again up on my feet in a day and home from hospital second day after surgery- walking unaided at less than two weeks. I cant stress enough how amazing both surgeries went with no pain and very little recovery. Id recommend having hips done asap if needed & by Dr Nicholson.I'm back playing sports and I cant remember the pain I lived with.

He listened to me, gave his expert information clearly and freely, then performed hip replacement flawlessly. Had a low fever a couple of days post-op when I got home and he came to the house to check up. Was back to work in less than 2-weeks and full recovery is going great!

He has got to be the most cocky, passive aggressive, condescending Doctor I have ever met. It's quite obvious that he believes he's the best on Long Island or quite possibly in all of New York State. He seems to forget, that WE as patients are the REASON he has a practice. I have never written a review on a physician, quite frankly because I've never had an experience like this.

Rude, full of himself, insulting, lack of ethics. Very disappointed. Never visited patient after surgery. It takes more than cutting to make a good surgeon!
