Stony Brook Orthopedics, and Dr. Penna in particular, saw my son within 24 hours of his sports related injury, which allowed for early diagnosis and a quick start to treatment and healing. Everyone from the person who scheduled us to Dr. Penna and his resident Alex were fabulous, and my son felt very comfortable with them all. Dr Penna “talked the sports talk” with my son, and was able to explain exactly how the injury affected his particular sport, but more importantly to my son, gave him a plan to get back on track as soon as safely possible.

Dr. Penna is an incredible orthopedist. He is kind, patient and compassionate and has a wonderful way of dealing with kids. He has done 4 surgeries on my children and after, they continued to play their sports as confidently as they did prior to surgery. We would not go to anyone else.

They were super helpful getting me a QUICK appointment for an MRI and for me into the office right away, which was great because I can not walk. The staff was great, the PA and the dr were great. It was awesome getting answers and being able to start on my road to recovery.

Dr. Penna is so kind and clearly has lots of experience in his field. He carefully listened to my concerns and took the time to explain what the reasons could be. He told me I could call him whenever I have any pain or problems. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for an excellent orthopedist.

Friendly staff, short wait time and minimal paperwork. Authorization done same day of visit and updated with information in a timely matter. Dr. Penna has great bedside manners and I recommend him to anyone in need.

I had a great experience, went in with a bakers cyst. Doc came in did an evaluation, 30 min later it was drained and discussed an MRI. Within 20 min of leaving the office, I was contacted with my authorization number. I'm always impressed with SB Ortho.

As a staff member of Stony Brook I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Penna. He is an excellent Doctor in his field. He was gentle and attentive in explaining my situation. He came highly recommended and I see why. I was nervous in getting cortisone shots but he made me comfortable talking while he injected them. The Nursing Staff were friendly and happy. Dr. Penna performed surgery on my Fiancé’s shoulder from an injury he sustained in a motor vehicle accident caused by the negligence of another driver. We searched for months for a reputable surgeon who could diagnose his intricate damage that was throughout the entirety of his shoulder leading into his bicep. He exceeded our expectations and then some. He is caring, kind and patient. Upon his consultation, my Fiancé was able to make his appointment for surgery the following week and we are three days post-operation and it is incredible how quickly he finally feels like he is getting back how he was before his accident. Not only did Dr. Penna repair ALL of the damage caused from this accident, he has also given us our livelihood back with complete encouragement that this nightmare is finally behind us. I would recommend ANYONE who has any Orthopedic injuries to him and his practice. The entire process was so comforting, from the consultation, to booking the surgery to the aftercare and post-operative appointment. Their facility is immaculately clean, the wait time the day of surgery was no more than 5 minutes before he was seen and started his way into surgery, not to mention Dr. Pennas staff is SO magnificent and so helpful and sweet, we are SO ecstatic with everyone and everything that Stony Brook has done for us, especially Dr. Penna. I went to see Dr. Penna on 1/14 and not only is he the Best doctor in his field, he also the nicest. His nursing staff is very helpful and just as nice as him. The staff is well organized efficient.

Dr Penna was absolutely amazing! I was so nervous to get a cortisone shot in my shoulder and he made me feel extremely comfortable and explained exactly each step he was going to take. Dr Penna is one of the top orthopedics on LI. I am a P.T. and I highly recommend him to many athletes that are need the top sports medicine care on LI.

I am long time distance runner who was recently diagnosed with a torn lateral meniscus and a para meniscal cyst requiring surgery. Having never had a procedure before I was extremely nervous and apprehensive but Dr. Penna and his staff made my experience a terrific one . Easy to obtain an appointment, thorough explanation of my condition , followed up with me within a few days, and provided me with a clear path towards a full recovery . I am on the mend now and looking forward to resuming my normal activities within a few weeks. Dr Penna performed biceps re-attachment surgery on me, at the forearm, using the "button" technique. The recovery was excellent and he only uses a splint...Not a full cast like some surgeons. This method had me back to limited duties in a short period of time. 2 years post op., my biceps tendon is stronger than before the surgery and I have no side effects from the surgery. Can barely see the scar. Dr Penna is a great surgeon, very informative and accommodating. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I saw Dr. Penna for three visits. I can't say enough about the care I received. Very accurately diagnosed my problem, extremely easy to talk to, and took his time with me and made sure all my questions were answered - I didn't feel rushed at all. I would highly recommend him - definitely a five star doc.

I had my surgery 6 weeks ago and j could not be happier with my experience. Doctor Penna is not only one of the nicest people you will ever meet but he's one of the best surgeons around. I know this not only because I feel great but because when I went to physical therapy after the surgery numerous pts said doctor Penna was the best. They said that him and his partner Doctor Paci had a great track record and people had a tendency to heal more quickly with them with no complication!
