Dr. James Arthur Rice

Have been going to Dr Rice for couple years, he’s a great doctor and actually listens to his patients, and explains what is wrong in detail. Rest of the staff is great as well and extremely helpful.

Just made a switch to Dr. Rice. Best decision I made! He takes his time and explains everything. Goes over every med. Actually listens to you!! Gave me samples to help till my donut hole passed in my insurance to help cover my meds. His nurses are so friendly and helpful. You actually talk to real people when they answer the phone. No pressing numbers and leaving messages.

Outstanding dr. He and his wife Lisa who is an RN and helps him go above and beyond. Lisa never gave up trying to get the insurance to fight for my medicines The insurance finally said yes. I can’t thank them enough for not just saying they weren’t covered like my other doctors office did. Dr Rice is awesome and spends a lot of time with you and let’s you participate in your care. He gives you options and let’s up you decide how you want to proceed Highly recommended this great team

Dr. Rice has always taken the time to listen to my concerns and answer any questions without rushing during my appointment. His wife Lisa as well as the entire staff are friendly and caring. In multiple instances, Dr. Rice, Lisa, and the entire staff have gone above and beyond for me on multiple occasions. We are blessed to have them in our little town of Mount Vernon. Actually can talk to a real person when you call!! Quick to answer and get you in. Very thorough. Gives you options and listens to you. Been going to him for years.

Contrary to what the lady below said Dr. Rice is far from a pill pusher. He does everything he can to encourage you to get in good health and help you get off your medicine. He has worked with me on losing weight and now I'm off my b;p meds and now working on my sugars. I couldn't have done it without him. I have friends who go to him and he has helped them so much in getting healthy and getting off unnecessary meds that were prescribed by the other doctors in town that were making me sick. He is a wonderful guy who cares about his patients and takes time to explain things to you. He gives you options and lets you help decide which is best direction to take. He keeps up to date on on the latest medical advances and listened to what I read up on. You won't find anyone better Gena and Lisa are always there to help you and encourage you. Dr. Rice is an outstanding doctor. I transferred to him from another dr in town and couldn't understand why I felt so terrible. He started working with me on my diet. Lost 135 lbs now off the majority of my medicines. Couldn't have done it without him and his nurses Gena and Lisa being my cheerleaders. I'm a new person. You won't find anyone more caring and wanting to get you better instead of putting you on medicine after medicine. I love the fact that he spends time with you and listens. Outstanding dr. Lost 135 lbs with his help. His nurses were always there cheering me on even when I wanted to give up. I am now off the majority of my medicines. Feel like a new person. You won't find anyone more caring than him. He spends time with you, gives you options and lets you choose. He and his staff go above and beyond to help you.

A good majority must have never questioned or undermined this man. If you have (like if you disagree with a treatment plan) then you would NOT be giving him 5 stars. He has a God complex (thinks he’s god) and doesn’t like it if you go to seek a second opinion. He doesn’t like it if you want alternatives to treatment plans. He will get mad, throw a 5 year old hissy fit and refuse to treat you. He is pill happy and thinks all treatment should come in the form of pills (this by the sheer volume of drug reps that come in and out of there DAILY; I’ve never been there when a drug rep is also there; I have to wonder if they’re the only people he’s professional with). He will also get mad if you say you’re having a reaction to a drug and tell you adverse reactions are impossible and that taking medication is like eating broccoli. So I guess broccoli is the 4th leading cause of death (drug reactions are the 4th leading cause of death). He dismissed me from the practice because I refused to do “exactly what he told me to do when he told me to do it.” HIS EXACT WORDS. He refused to treat my children because “I” wouldn’t do exactly what he wanted me to when he wanted me to do it (as in he wouldn’t treat my kids because I wouldn’t take my medication or would disagree with his opinion for myself, not because I was non-compliant for my kids, that never happened). He is an insecure, arrogant, angry man. If you like a doctor that you can just get your ‘script and be on your way then I guess he’s your guy. If you want to be an active participant in your (or your children’s health care), then run, RUN LIKE HELL. His insecurity will likely be a source of morbidity or mortality and just hope it’s not you. Yelled at my wife in the neuro icu and called her a drug addict. She was unable to speak or stand up at the time due to spinal fluid building up in her brain. She spent 3 days strapped to a bed without so much as an ice pack. When we asked for another doctor he said "you can check out of the hospital and see whatever doctor you like". When a real doctor checked her out, she was diagnosed properly and treated. My wife's a missionary, by the way. Real classy, Dr. Rice. Yelled at my wife in the neuro icu and called her a drug addict. Dr. Rice is patient and compassionate. He will listen to your concerns and answer all of your questions. Equally as I’m pressed with his office staff. I love that you get a person and not a machine. I have never waited longer than 5-10 minutes for my scheduled appointment. My family loves Dr. Rice!

He thinks he is God. Dismissed me from his practice because I DARED to question his recommendations and he pretty much shut me down. He doesn’t want patients to work with him, he wants them to do exactly what he says, no question. If you want a doctor who lays down the line and tells you exactly what you should do, he’s good. If you want a partner in health care, go somewhere else. I used to think his staff was full of really rude angry people. I now understand why. His staff is actually pretty understanding given what he acts like.

Spends time with you. Very thorough. Listens and gives you options for you to help decide what works best for you. Won't find anyone better in town.

Dr. Rice has been my Dr for years. Recently I visited the ER and the ER Dr thought that Dr rice should set me up with a biopsy to check for lymphoma. When I called Rice he denied this and then said I had another disease very very very rare to get randomly in the US. I asked him to reconsider this biopsy request since the lump on my neck has been there for a month or more, and he denied. I was furious because my aunt that goes to him didn't get treatment for cancer until she was in stage 4. I do not recommend him. He is on a power Trip, says he's a man of God but isn't, and follows his own agenda and doesn't listen to patient concerns. I am calling Deaconess to find a new Dr tomorrow and Hopefully will get a biopsy to give me piece of mind either I don't have cancer, or if I do I can get treatment underway ASAP. DO NOT GO TO THIS DOCTOR!!! AND I WAS A PATIENT FOR NUMEROUS YEARS!!! AWFUL!!! Dr. Rice has been my Dr for years.
