Dr is great…..IF you can get staff to answer phone OR return your call…..

Dr. Birkenhauer is amazing. Her staff is a nightmare. I am on my fourth time in as many years getting my blood drawn and her staff never sends the paperwork. So I have to sit an hour longer and take time off of my job or I have to reschedule and take another day off of work. It happened again today. The employee at the blood draw place and I both actually laughed about it because it happens so frequently. She called the office and they didn't answer the first two times and the third time Joy answered and the blood draw employee asked for the paperwork. Joy said, "oh, is she being rude. She's always rude when she comes here." I could literally her saying it. The employee was stunned. The blood draw employee said no, she's pretty not rude considering you didn't send the paperwork. So i called Joy back and she said "I never said that." RIDICULOUS. NO doctor is worth dealing with a front staff that is too busy being mean to do their job.

I have been a patient for several years there..haven't actually seen the doctor in at least 2 years...it's been the nurse practices. I take a Prolia shot every 6 months for bone health and need paperwork faxed to Lab Corp...EVERY time this gets screwed up and it's sooo frustrating. Time to switch to a new doctor I believe. Such bad communication within this office and inefficiency is too unprofessional for me!

My Father in law was a patient of Dr. Birkenhauer since 2005 and when we recently requested her to fill out family medical leave papers for my husband and daughter to come from out of state once a month to help him with getting to appointments and provisions because he has Glaucoma they would not take the time to fill out the papers. Needless to say he will be finding a new doctor. He recently lost his wife and was pushed to tears by the PA when he went in to request them. I cannot believe the lack of compassion that this doctor for a patient who has been padding their pockets for many, many years that she couldn't take a few moments to sign these documents.

I met Dr. B about 20 years ago when she was at another Dr. Office. She was the FIRST Dr. to take my concerns of migraine headaches serious. She walked in and begin to ask me about them. She was and is amazing! When she started her practice I became one of her first patients. I will be with her until either she retires or I die. We travel full time in an RV but ALWAYS come home for checks ups and all our medical needs. We love Dr. B. She will be a great lifetime Dr if you need one. T and M Green

I went to see Dr. Birkenhauer after I had Covid. I found her to be most caring and professional. She spent more time with me just getting to know who I am and all about my health and concerns than any other doctor I’ve ever seen. She is very thorough and concerned with the well being of her patients. I wasn’t crazy about the office itself but that didn’t affect my opinion of her.

Dr. Birkenhauer is a very caring doctor who takes her time and doesn’t rush you in and out. Her staff was very friendly and prompt… no long waits. I’ve only seen her once, but I will see her again soon for a follow up appointment after my blood work. So far, she’s the best physician I’ve seen in the Gulf Shores/ Orange Beach area!

Very smart doc

Dr. Birkenhauer and all her Nurse practitioners are all wonderful and through. I have been having many health issues lately and medications have been changed. With in a few days after following some basic instructions my blood work went from very bad to almost all the way normal.

I became a patient of Dr. Birkenhauer in December of 2021. She is professional, caring and helpful. She takes her time with her patients and offers several different options for treatment and listens to concerns. I have never had difficulty scheduling an appointment and her staff is great.

Dr. BIRKENHAUER is an excellent and caring physician. Friendly, knowledgeable and professional. The supporting medical staff is great, always caring and friendly. I have never felt rushed, all questions answered and new meds explained clearly. Appointments were made and conducted in a timely manner. This Family Medicine office is a great asset to the community. I am glad Dr. BIRKENHAUER was recommended by a good friend.

Completely dissatisfied with this office. Unfortunately we never even got the chance to meet Dr. Birkenhauer because the front desk was rude and unhelpful in an emergency situation where we needed to get my family member in for an appointment ASAP. I spoke with Colby numerous times explaining that this situation was potentially life or death and he was short, snippy, and always told me he would call me back (which he never did). If you're ever in a situation where you need understanding and compassion staff to help you with a problem, choose another office. Completely dissatisfied with this office. Absolutely the best doctor, I have been seeing Doctor Birkenhauer for the last 16 years.

Dr. Birkenhauer is the best doctor I’ve met in years. Actually, I thought MD’s like this were a thing of the past. Personal attention and true care for each patient. My wife and I couldn’t be happier.

Love the personal touch we always get when seeing Dr. Birkenhauer. She always takes a practical look at non-prescription solutions before recommending prescription drugs. Through the approximately 5 years my wife and I have been going to her, we have seen excellent improvement in our health statistics even though we are now in our 70's. The staff here were all nice, I love my new physician. Dr.Birkenhauer! She is sooo awesome! And she actually cares! She doesn’t herd you like cattle’s she actually spends time with you and get to know you. I’ve never met any physician who really cared as much as she did! Again I love her! I just had my first visit with Dr. Birkenhauer. I am so incredibly impressed! She is so thorough and so caring. She was running pretty behind, but I totally understand why. She doesn't usher you in and out like cattle. If you are patient and want a doctor that really cares about the well-being of her patients, this is the doctor for you!!! And the staff is exceptional. Excellent first visit. Came to see her because 2 people I know spoke highly of her and my physician was leaving the area. My First impression is she listens to you, answers questions and makes suggestions and referrals if needed and recommends tests or xrays or scans if needed. Seems experienced and a calm demeanor which I love. I am glad I chose to let her be my md. Time will tell but I give her a 5 star rating for today!

Took my wife for an appointment as a new patient. My wife and I were extremely pleased and satisfied with the staff and the physician. They were all very professional, patient, and kind. We appreciated the time they took to take care of her.

Best Doctor in Alabama, Doctor Birkenhauer has treated my family for over 20 years, she is a great doctor. Doctor Birkenhauer is very friendly, takes time to listen to your problems and takes proper methods to treat you. There is no doctor I trust more.

The most professional and friendly Clinic I've ever been to.

This Dr. loves her patients and has taken exceptional care of my parents.. my mom until her passing and my dad still. You can call anytime and she responds quick and does whatever is needed to help them... gives me great piece of mind as I’m in another state. Thank you for caring and for being a great Dr.

Very impersonal. Poor follow up. Not just one time, either, I’ve spent at least 8 years as her patient. I must find a new doctor who is more professional and actually tries to communicate with me on a timely basis.

My wife and I have been lucky enough to have Dr. Birkenhauer as our family doctor, for almost a decade now. Dr. Birkenhauer, is the best around. My wife has a lot of medical issues; she requires a lot of specialized care; it's here, at her office where we receive that special care. She's a professional, thru, and thru. This is a busy office, and yet, we always receive amazing care. Dr. Birkenhauer is an amazing, caring, brilliant, and respectful person, with great bedside manners. She goes over, and much beyond our expectations EVERYTIME!!! The staff is fantastic, as well. This is a first rate medical office, where the entire staff, are like teammates, working hard with a common goal; providing a great healthcare experience.

The staff is incredibly rude. Every call I have with them they are pushy, short, inconsiderate and very matter of fact. No need to treat anyone this way.

I am military and was referred to Dr. Birkenhauer as a new patient from tricare due to Hurricane Michael’s evacuation from Panama City Florida. I have called their office multiple times to make an appointment only for them not to answer the phone. I have personally known Dr. Birkenhauer and several members of her staff for several years. Dr. B is someone you can trust and she extremely caring, friendly and knowledgeable.

I have personally seen the doctor and practitioners and staff work hard and diligently for my health. I’ve never felt like a burden nor have I ever seen anyone there be rude! Dr. Birkenhauer and her staff have given me amazing care since I have become a patient. It is a very busy office but they are very passionate and thorough with their work. I would recommend them 1000% for your primary care needs.

Dr. Birkenhauer is a class act and true professional. Last year I had irregular health issues for my age and her and her staff made me feel comfortable, were very informative and found quick results for my problem. Dr. Birkenhauer personally sat down with me, went over the results and also cared enough to make me understand that I need to make some changes. I was just not another number, I was a person she cared about, that is hard to find these days especially a doctor who does Primary Care. If Dr.B can’t fix you she will find someone who can until the problem is solved. Her staff is always friendly and even when I run into them outside of work they are always friendly and polite. I’m a new patient and bc she does a meet and greet with all new patients, you have the opportunity to share all your health concerns and family history directly with her, not a medical assistant. You also get to know her as well. She addresses every concern immediately and gives sound medical and nutritional advice.

I got to see her the first time. Then all I saw were nurse practioners. I requested to see her a couple of visits ago and got an appt with her. When I got there they said I would have to reschedule to see her, or see the nurse practitioner. Dr. B is great, but not if you don't get to see her.

The doctor is lovely and seems to care. I wish I could say the same for their front desk staff. Spent 5 months trying to be seen as a new patient, and after 2 or 3 cancellations on their part I finally was seen. The doctor ordered labs to be drawn at an offsite location in Foley. No big deal. I call TWICE, one the day after my appointment and one the day before my labs were to be drawn at quest. Your office assured me both times quest would have all of my information and lab orders. I went out of my way to ensure this would be a smooth process because I had never been to that lab before, or an office that required me to go elsewhere to get my labs drawn. I even told the lady I spoke with that I have an appointment at 9:15am at quest tomorrow and she assured me I didn’t need to do anything further. I starve myself the night before, stress about how many pokes it’s going to take, get everyone in tow (husband and kid), and off we go. I get to the quest office early and they state they do not have my order form. Okay. Why not? So the lady very kindly calls your office for me to inform you I’m there for my blood draw, need to know which tests... an hour later still nothing. By now I have long missed my appointment, have had to watch screaming children run through the lobby by overwhelmed parents, and for what? I had to leave quest and physically go to your office ($$/gas/time/sanity/still starving) to get my lab order form. Spent 20 minutes in your office just waiting on that. It took half an hour to get to your office from quest due to traffic. By the time i refueled and looked at the time I just didn’t have the time to go back today, I have other obligations. Best bedside manner. She's very engaging. Always end my visits with a hug. Don't know what we would do without her.

I live in Arizona and part time in Alabama. Dr. Birkenhauer is far superior than most of the doctors I've had in AZ. She is kind, patient and does a comprehensive medical exam. I would highly recommend her.

As a patient of Dr. Birkenhauer's for over 12 years I never get to see her anymore. Nurse Practitioners handle all my office visits. Office help changes constantly. Information sent to Insurance to pay claims is incorrect. This used to be a wonderful caring practice towards patients and the office staff was reliable and friendly but no more . I can't believe she is still accepting new patients. The survey is hard to fill out because I never get to see Dr. B anymore.

Been her patient for over 10 years. The quality of care has definitely declined. There is constant turnover in staff. Dr. B seems robotic and not the same warm, caring individual she was a few years back. I recently was in and told her of two issues I had. She dealt with only one, and I am still dealing with the other. I will be finding another doctor who listens better.
