Dr. Jeffrey Scott Kanel

We left the doctor's office and the last thing he said was to please reach out if we had any follow up questions. The phone number was answered by a staff member who stated that Dr. Kanel has no email and no phone number. We could only be transferred to an assistant. Once transferred, the next staff member said that the assistant has no email and no phone number. Once again, we could only be transferred. In a world where many doctors welcome numerous avenues of communication, the refusal of anyone to give us any phone number to any person at all is cryptic and unprofessional.

Dr. Kanel answered my questions and gave me good direction.

Kanal was curt and arrogant. Both I could’ve coped with if he was thorough and made me feel confident regarding my son’s care. He did not. My child’s radius fracture was casted below the elbow. I didn’t think that was sufficient especially since his first fracture two years ago was casted over the elbow —providing much better coverage. When we came in for a follow up Kanal even questioned out loud why he didn’t ask for an over the elbow cast. When I simply asked him and mentioned I had the same concerns he was dismissive and did not answer. My son continued to experience pain. Not confident in Kanal’s assessment I took my son to our pediatrician instead. A follow up x-ray revealed he also had an ulnar styloid fracture—-something Kanal never mentioned. Not acceptable. Now my is being seen by an ortho doc who is thorough, professional and demonstrates exceptional bedside manner. We are proceeding to an MRI to ascertain any ligament and tendon damage. covering all bases which is important especially when kids are still growing. I would not recommend Kanal. Great availability, didn’t have to wait too long & Dr. Kanel was efficient. He gave us the lowdown & understood my son’s desire to get back to playing baseball quickly & addressed how to accomplish that. Very satisfied.

Dr. Kanel has performed 2 surgeries for my son (age 15) to fix his slipped epiphysis. He has been a patient of Dr. Kanel's for 4 years now and we recently seen him on 3/15/2022 for a routine exam and to continue treatment for my son. Dr. Kanel is very "Present" and knowledgeable about my son's condition and "listens" to my sons concerns.

My appointment was at 10:50. I didn’t see the doctor until 12:00, so frustrating. We waited 30 minutes in the waiting room and then another 30 minutes in the room. I was very disappointed because the actual doctor visit lasted 10 minutes. I was not happy with any of it!!!

Excellent, organized, prompt - terrific visit. Friendly staff. Awesome web check in and forms. We were so relieved to be dealing with a sprain instead of a break! Thank you Dr. Kanel!

He needs to work on his people skills. Start off with learning to look at the patient and saying Hello my name is../Goodbye it was nice meeting you.

Clean environment, professional, fast and friendly service.

He set my femur incorrectly. My leg is now crooked and my knee is at a weird angle. I have constant pain 4 weeks post op.

The visit was brief. The staff took care of everything effortlessly. Dr Kanel read my x-ray and diagnosed me healed.

Awesome experience with Dr. Kanel and his support staff at his practice . My 6 years old sprained his ankle and I was able to get the same day appointment. The care and efficiency at this place was top class , from the front desk to the technical staff and of course Dr Kanel !

Dr Kanel lacked good bedside manners. He walked into the room and proceeded to examine my son without a proper introduction. I didn’t even know who was.

Dr. Kanel is knowledgeable, confident and trustworthy.

Dr. Kanel can take a bit to warm up, but he listens and makes appropriate care plans.

Dr. K is excellent! We have been going to him for 21 years and he has diagnosed, casted and surgically straightened my 4 boys bones more than 15 times. When 2 other orthos told me that my son's bone was healed and looked fine but could not explain why he was still feeling pain, my Pediatrician recommended Dr. K because he is a Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon. That means two degrees and I believe also two residencies, one in Peds and the other in Ortho. Dr. K was able to spot the tiniest fracture on the xray that neither of the other two could see and that knowledge kept me going back for the next 21 years. Bedside manner - I have always found his personality to be jovial and fun and he has always taken the time to explain everything to me and my boys. Why would you denigrate his skill as a doctor because YOU didn't care for his personality. Consider that If you seeing Dr. K it's because you or your child is in pain and that situation can make YOU less tolerant, a little short tempered, demanding and even rude. Also, with ANY Doctor, consider the time of day that you are going in to see them. What have they been dealing with all day long? As a parent, how are your nerves at the end of a day with your children? Consider that Peds Doctors have to deal with possibly up to 12 or more children each day, who are scared and in pain. Very friendly staff from front office, to nurse, and radiology. The doctor was also kind and explained things in a way my 8 y/o son was able to understand.

Horrible experience to say the least. I went in with a meta-carpal shaft fracture on my right hand. Dr. Kanel added a brace around my hand in a wrong position (the fingers were bent at 45 deg w.r.t to the hand), because of which the the fractured bone started healing in a bent position and my knuckle became permanently depressed. When I asked him if this is temporary and would affect the strength/functionality of the hand, he was continuously distracted with his phone and his answers were unsatisfactory and along the lines of it might/ might not come back to its original position His lack of attention irritated me the most, in addition to, of course the wrong treatment that he made me undergo. Fortunately, I went to another orthopedic at the right time and could revert some of the damage and restore aesthetics of the hand. Horrible experience to say the least. Busy office, but organized front end staff and there was no extensive waiting past out appt time. Friendly and competent medical assistants and other support staff to the physician in the back working with him. Dr. Kanel was kind and thorough, answered our questions, and provided good care.

We really like Dr. Kanel and think that he is very knowledgeable. His follow up practices after procedures could be improved.

Dr Kanel is my first ever doctor in the state, I feel safe and watched after quiet carefully with him. He is a good person as well, friendly and a good listener.I would strongly recommend him to my family.

Quick - detailed - told me what I needed to know - and had me on my way...His nurse was great as well.

He was fine, not the greatest bedside manners. Came with my 4 yr old and he definitely is not for children.. probably better for adults!

Doctor was very personable! He addressed my problem With a lot of knowledge and suggested a moderate approach that was very reassuring to me. I had talked to other Ortho Drs that had suggested toe fusion as a solution but Dr Kanel wants to remove bone spur and cysts first. This has an 80% success rate for pain relief, a short recovery, and doesn’t cause a condition that can’t be reversed. We were so relieved when the staff with Dr. Kanel were able to see my son on very short notice. The entire process was a breeze and Dr. Kanel and his staff were wonderful.

Dr. Kanel was great. He listened to all the symptoms my son had, and then checked him out and knew right away what was wrong with him. He had x-rays done in office so he could confirm immediately and get him the right care my son needed. Very thankful to have been recommended to Dr. Kanel.

Dr Kanel was very friendly. He explained my condition clearly and gave me a detailed description of the recovery.

Dr. Kanel was awesome! Very kind and great with my daughter. I appreciated his confidence when looking at the xrays and deciding on how to help her with her hurt elbow. Also the staff was very friendly as well as his assistant.

Dr Kanel has been the surgeon for my daughter's full spinal fusion (and revision 6 years later) as well as for my son's ACL surgery. I trust him implicitly with my children's lives and I don't think there can be a more glowing recommendation than that. He is kind, thorough, cares about the kids, makes them feel a part of their treatment, and deals with parents like myself: absolutely freaked out about my 12 year old being in surgery for 10+ hours straight, and made me feel calm, confident and at peace.

I have always liked my visits to this office. The staff is always friendly, and the office itself is. large and comfortable.

My younger son has been having foot problems and so I thought Dr Kanel's office would be the place to visit. He has seen my older son in the past and has always done a great job. Dr. Kanel examined his feet and made great suggestions. Thank you Dr Kanel!

Very thorough.....and very honest in his recommendation and diagnosis.

Visited the doctor for kid's elbow pain due to an accidental fall while playing. The doctor checked the x-ray and the kid's elbow and told that there was no fracture and suggested for a splint for 5 days. After 5 days, we went for the follow up appointment and got the x-ray done and kid was fine. His analysis was quick and was spot on. He did not explain anything about why the kid had pain if the x-ray was good for the first time which a patient or parents generally expects. Otherwise, everything was good.

I hear he's a great MD, but bedside manner and general interactions are pretty poor. my 1st meeting with him (attending an appt with my son who did see him before) and he didn't even introduce himself. Just walked in, said xrays were ok, and left. MAYBE four (4) minutes in the room.
