My parents, senior citizens, were referred to Dr. Polito by their previous physician when they moved to this area many years ago. He is an excellent clinician and takes time during appointments to listen and inform and discuss options. We always feel "heard." The staff is professional, kind and supportive. I do not recommend the services provided here, and leave this review disappointed and frustrated by my experience as a guide to those considering working with this office. I saw Melanie Van LieShout in June 2021 for my annual well-woman checkup - a routine preventative checkup- and chose the office because it was in-network with my insurance and recommended to me by friends in the medical community in Santa Barbara. While the staff was kind at my visit, I was surprised by a bill over $1000 for routine diagnostic tests (part of my annual wellness exam). My insurance stated that Dr VanLieShout used lab codes deemed "experimental" and "unnecessary" and that they would not be covered. The insurance company sent me a booklet containing thousands of codes and suggested I ask the doctor before they run any tests next time. I would expect a competent and honest medical provider to know these codes as part of representing that they operate in-network. I expect a worthy medical provider to protect their patients from serious financial consequences when it could easily be avoided. Dr VanLieShout and Dr Polito broke this trust and put me in a bad situation. What's worse, is that when I reached out for assistance through Dr. Polito's office, which required me to fax paperwork to and play phone tag for weeks to get a hold of, they failed to return my calls and have failed completely to help resolve this. It's hugely frustrating and I wouldn't wish this experience on anyone. I went to Dr politos office and it went well but that lady who Does there book keeping Wow! She called me being very rude saying my insurance was being declined I gave her my new insurance number and she said rudely to me “I’ve put it in so many times it’s not going through.” “There nothing more that I can do for u.” She gave me paper work in the mail. she had all my insurance wrong she wasn't even listening to what I was saying when I told her I had new insurance. She kept calling me telling me it was declined I would call my insurance over and over they kept telling me they had no claim. And that it would be covered. In the end she said I had to deal with it myself she proceeded to tell me how she’s doing everything right and how I’m doing everything wrong. She said And I quote “ I have it down recorded I’m doing everything I can and your doing nothing at all” I definitely will never be back I’m not alone in this problem with the billing if you read the Yelp reviews so so many people have talked about the rudeness and other people have said they switched insurance and you did the same to them and made them pay out of pocket. Everyone be warned if your going to use this doctors office read Yelp first. I gave u the correct insurance since the beginning you just neglected to look at it. Dr. Polito has been Amazing! I'm a new patient to him and he helped diagnose my condition during the pandemic and got my mobility back from being unable to get up from the bed. He is extremely knowledgeable and he not only communicates well, but he listens to you. The office staff is equally as Amazing, They have helped me with my prescriptions and scheduling with great professionalism. I'm so thankful that he's my Doctor! Dr. Polito has been Amazing! Dr. Polito has been my primary doctor for 12 years. He is a world-class physician, provides the very best level of care available, and his staff is excellent. I agree 100% with the 5 star reviews here.

Dr. Polito is perhaps the most conscientious physician that me and my husband has ever had. He spends quality time with us and his diagnostic competencies have helped us immensely on a number of occasions. He runs his office like a clock. Patients are seen promptly and with cheerfulness and courtesy. His consistent office staff is an indication that he is a fair and pleasant person to work with. His assistant physician Melanie is also a wonderful doctor and they work well together. We are very grateful that Dr. Polito retained us when we initially established with him and he comes highly recommended.

Absolutely unprofessional office staff. Around 2016 I became very ill suddenly developed asthma symptoms, Rash all over my body, extreme fatigue. around the same time loads of black mold had been found in our house. when I asked if it could be related he said there is no such thing as mold illness its just contractors looking to scare people and rip them off. Turns out I was allergic to mold. this man kept me sick for 2 yrs. And his billing department is the worst.

Here is a physician who really cares about his patients. My former physician Dr. Garcia was excellent, but got greedy and decided not to accept Medicare any longer. Dr. Polito is straightforward with his analysis and is always personable. The two ladies who schedule his appointments are extremely efficient and pleasant. Add in Melanie, his associate, and you have four great folks who are superb. I would recommend Dr. Polito to anyone who is seeking superior medical care.

I have been seeing Dr. Polito for two years. He stays current with all of the latest health guidelines from the major organizations (ACS, AHA, NIH, etc.). He provides excellent care without ordering needless procedures or tests. He always takes plenty of time to answer questions. I also love that I can get in to see him or the PA usually within 24 hours. His office staff are friendly and responsive.

Attentive, knowledgeable and Interested

LOVE this guy! Dr. Polito has been my doctor (and my wife's) for a few years now. He is friendly, easy to talk to, and will go above and beyond to help you. I highly recommend Dr. Polito to anyone in the area.

He is simply the best doctor I have ever had (and I've had 70 years of experience). Detail oriented, he takes the time to personally review my blood work with me writing down all of the concerns and corrective measures I need to take to stay healthy. When I have needed referrals, the process has always been prompt and professional. As a result of his study and recommendations I have switched my CPAP provider from Apria to another provider who has given me excellent equipment and outstanding service. I couldn't be happier. I had a horrible experience with the intake coordinator. She called me to schedule my first appointment and was astonishingly rude. I do not understand why. I had a few basic questions, all of which were responded to in a condescending, snappish manner. I asked to schedule my appointment a couple of months out so it would be closer to summer, and she iinterpreted my request as not wanting to see the doctor ever. I have no idea what Dr. Polito is like because I can’t navigate beyond the vitriol of his staff person. Ultimately, I canceled my appointment deciding that it wasn’t worth the aggravation.

Excellent and I really appreciate his ability to diagnose and help me through my medical challenges over the past few years.

Office organization is a mess, as others have documented. 1) Electronic health information system is extremely difficult to navigate - I'm very computer literate and wasted a lot of time trying to fill it out 2) Because of the above, I arrived "only" 10 min early and was told that the provider was busy with someone else and they couldn't guarantee I could be seen

I had two sleep studies and over three years of seeing two other physicians without finding any relief. Then I found Dr Polito and my life changed...I actually started getting some sleep again. Highly recommend and his office staff are great#

Fantastic physician: straight-forward, always willing to make an appointment, and polite. I've had several appointments, and I can honestly say Dr. Polito is one of the better if not best GPs available in Santa Barbara.

I have been with Dr. Polito for 3 years now and consider him to be the finest Internist I have ever had the good fortune to be with. My last Dr.'s desire to keep costs down and inept handling of my care has cost me a lifetime of medical issues. Dr Polito was recommended to me in an emergency room. I took my family to him. Would I recommend Dr Polito? If you and your family are perfectly healthy, Dr Polito will serve you well. If you think that you or anybody in your family may have health problems, seek another doctor.
