I had my prostatectomy in late October '22. Adhering to Dr Hu's pre- and post-surgery guidelines, I was able to compete in rowing regattas within five months of my surgery! Dr Hu and his team were caring, clear in their explanations and responsive to the few post-surgery questions I had.

I am 74 and was diagnosed with 'high volume, high grade' prostate cancer six months ago and soon after had a consultation with Dr. Hu. That appointment was moderately helpful as he was dismissive of treatments other than a radical prostatectomy. After seeing other specialists, one in Boston who recommended Dr. Hu, I decided on a robot-assisted prostatectomy. Dr. Hu did the procedure and I am now cancer-free (PSA <.04), my continence has returned and while there are some ED issues they are improving. As I said to the Doctor, "I'm a happy patient."

If you have to go into this ring, he is the cut man you want in your corner. Dr. Hu is a master of the art of robotic prostate surgery and he is more. He will let you know what to expect, the good and the bad, and how to deal with it. He will answer your questions about comparing your options, i.e., surgery vs. radiology and newer techniques.

I visited Dr. Hu for a second opinion about my treatment options for early stage prostate cancer. I felt dismissed. The information he shared was focused more on discrediting my doctor's recommendation than discussing the treatment options available. Regardless of the level of cancer someone has, it is scary for the patient. A little empathy over ego would go a long way.

Following the initial diagnosis of prostate cancer in 2018, Dr. Hu performed two cryotherapy treatments, combined with active surveillance, which provided successful localized treatment of the cancer. After a biopsy of my prostate in 2022 revealed a reoccurrence of cancer, I elected robotic surgery and a prostatectomy under Dr. Hu’s care. I am grateful Dr. Hu offered both the cryotherapy and the robotic surgery, which enabled me to remain under his care. Dr. Hu and his support staff provided detailed oral and written pre- and post-op directions for the prostatectomy. In addition to the prostatectomy, I appreciated Dr. Hu’s willingness to include surgical removal and biopsy of several lymph nodes, which a preop PET CT scan indicated could be cancerous. Moreover, Dr. Hu provided post op oversight, including an office visit I scheduled on short notice to remediate urine flow. My recovery is going well and a low PSA indicates the prostatectomy was successful.

I have excellent experience seeing Dr. Hu from consultation to surgery. Notably, his skill in surgery is probably unmatched in the field. I feel great after surgery and recovering fast. He leads excellent doctor team, well respected by colleagues and by young resident doctors. In addition, he is Professor of Urologic Oncology and Chair of Quality and Patient Safety. Equipped with decades of experience and most updated academic medical information, I believe he could help every patient with great result.

Dr Hu is a leader in the field of minimally invasive robotically assisted surgical techniques. He performed a partial nephrectomy on me, and the recovery was an order of magnitude easier than from the surgery I had 12 years before using a more traditional approach. Though it is not quite an outpatient procedure, it required no more than an overnight stay. He admits to NY Presbyterian, which has amazing nursing care. I recommend Dr Hu enthusiastically and without reservation. And remember that when people ask "who's on first?" you should answer, "no Hu's a block over on York!"

A cancer diagnosis is scary, but Dr. Hu eased my concerns by explaining all the options and listening to my concerns. His experience and approach were comforting. Jim was my choice for my radical prostatectomy (almost 7 years ago) and I recently visited him for a checkup and review. He is very personable, easy to reach and communicate with, a real expert in the field, and I, and my family, owe him a great deal.

I had received a very high PSA result from a routine physical that put me in the alarming category for potential cancer. I sought out practices in the NY area and was recommended to visit Dr Hu's and the Cornell team. They were very methodical in taking a new PSA and then ordering an MRI and ultimately a biopsy. My second PSA was a lot less which was a relief however slightly above normal. They recommended the MRI and then those results led to a biopsy. In order to rule out cancer it was the right path. I preferred to know for sure even as my scores were borderline risk. The process was smooth, the staff is helpful and their portal has all the information you need and easily accessible. The biopsy was quick and painless with Dr Hu and I found him to be pleasant, and answered my questions honestly and thoroughly. If I had to go further I would have continued on with Dr Hu. Fortunately I received a good result and will monitor the number annually.

After receiving a notice of an elevated PSA reading and obtaining the results of an MRI which indicated prostate cancer, my urologist referred me to Dr. Jim Hu at NYP Weill Cornell Medical Center. I went to see Dr. Hu for my 3 month post prostate surgery visit. My PSA was below 0.02 which is normal . I feel good, walking about 20 miles per week. Dr. Jim Hu has provided detailed information since my diagnosis with prostate cancer. Three months after my prostate surgery, my PSA has dropped to the undetectable level (0.02), so it appears his care was highly effective.

I arrived at Dr. Hu's office rather fearful after my urologist referred me to him. He was very calming as he explained my condition and the care choices with their possible outcomes. He explained the pros and cons of less invasive approaches vs. a prostatectomy, given my advanced stage. I elected to have the prostatectomy and today five months after the procedure have experienced minimal discomfort and side effects. I don't have issues with incontinence. I’ve been a patient of Dr. Hu’s for over a year and a half. The most important take-away for me is that I feel confident I am getting the best care possible. The visits and procedures i have undergone have all been performed in the calmest, unhurried and least-threatening of conditions. I don’t think i could desire more than that for my health.

Dr. Hu removed my prostate four months ago. Cancer was Stage 3, Gleason 4+3=7. Thanks to Dr. Hu’s skill as a surgeon, all margins were negative for cancer and the nerves were spared. I went home from surgery the same day, and recovery has been speedy. Today my PSA is less than 0.02 - a convincing indicator that the cancer is gone. First, he is far more handsome than that picture, just saying. Not to the meat of the matter. I have been a surgeon for 30 years and remember assisting on prostate surgery during my training. I recently underwent prostate surgery under the care of Dr. Hu and he accomplished in 9 hours (from admission to surgery to discharge) what required 7-10 days during my training. What a gift. Dr. Hu and his staff are approachable and responsive to all of my concerns and questions. All of my post-operative questions were quickly answered and the follow-up care has been great.

When two PSA tests came back positive, my primary care physician sent me to Dr. Hu, who immediately sent me for an MRI and a biopsy. When the diagnosis of prostate cancer was confirmed, I looked at all Dr. Hu's videos on Youtube. I knew right away that I wanted the surgery, rather than another treatment. I was so pleased and relieved that Dr. Hu agreed to undertake my surgery. In my case, the surgery was challenging, since I have an ostomy (my colon was removed, and so my waste drains into a bag attached to my torso). I have no rectum anymore. In any case, Dr. Hu performed the surgery brilliantly, as I expected. I have had no problem with my urinary control. I wore diapers for a few days, but it was totally unnecessary, so I went back to wearing regular underwear. I am hopeful that my sexual function will gradually return, but it's not so important to me. What was most important to me was that the cancer was removed from my body, and that's exactly what Dr. Hu did for me.

I trust and appreciate Dr. Hu's care of me. It seems that so much of treating prostate cancer is in knowing the most recent information of what and how the cancer can progress. Dealing with cancer sucks, but Dr. Hu is the best surgeon you could ask for to go through that with. I am writing a review on behalf of my father, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer at the end of 2021. Dr. Hu and his staff have been nothing but thoughtful and professional with us during the entire span of my father’s treatment. He was extremely knowledgeable and patient, answering all the questions my family had (we had a lot) and frequently checked in after the surgery to make sure all was okay. Truthfully speaking, we had originally considered Memorial Sloan Kettering as they probably have better marketing, but we believe we made the best choice by choosing Dr. Hu. If we had to go through this process again (hopefully not, knock on wood) we would absolutely choose Dr. Hu again. If I could give 6 stars, I would, but instead I’ll just give the 5. Absolutely, Dr. Hu is one of the most knowledgeable professionals - he explains my conditions in detail, offering hopes and options for future treatment pending results of this fusion biopsy procedure. The transperineal biopsy procedure that he pioneered, developed and implemented in his Team is simply extraordinary because it does not associate with many of the unwanted side-effects associated with regular Fusion Biopsy. Dr. Jim Hu at Weill Cornell was my number #1 choice when I decided that surgery was the best option for me to treat prostate cancer. I was in denial initially having read stories saying that PSA was not a good biomarker for cancer, and that prostate cancer is overtreated and slow-growing anyway. (Don't believe everything you read.) I did every test available 5 PSA tests, ExoDx, 3T MRI, a transperineal biopsy, and a Decipher before deciding on surgery. While there were several credentialed surgeons I liked in New York, none impressed me as much as Dr. Hu who I entrusted with my life. I came with many questions, and he addressed all of them. He was genuine, straightforward, and meticulous in his explanations. I am truly grateful that Dr. Hu was available to perform my Prostatectomy. At 3.5 months out, my outcome has been great: post-surgical leakage ceased, and my "performance" is a 10/10 on 3 out of 7 days a week. Demand a PSA test. Early detection is the best solution.

I had heard about Dr. Hu and decided to consult with him about my Prostate cancer reoccurrence .During my first visit, he confidently suggested the CryoTherapy and stated that he performs this procedure while the patient is totally conscious during the whole process.
