Dr. Joanna L. Vanvleet

My husband passed away after he suffered a long illness and I was deeply grieving and sad but decided to finally get out and travel to see my mother. My little dog was all I had left and wanted to take her with me as she was my only comfort. I politely asked her for a support animal note which the airline required to take her with me and not store her away. For some reason she took offense to this and started ranting in which I let out a sigh. A soft sigh is not allowed in her office where emotions should be safe to be expressed. I’ve never ever been anything but agreeable, thankful and pleasant to that dr. She became so mean and angry and made my cry how she treated me. I was shocked and It traumatized me. Then had the nerve to terminate me. Over a sigh. Years later it has me traumatized and have never gone back to any mental health dr or therapist since and still suffer from grieving. I should have reported it but maybe writing this will help. Joanna is a lovely person, and the best psychiatrist I've ever had. She is very personable, patient, kind, and actually listens when you talk to her. You'd think these are pretty basic traits most psychiatrists would possess, but you'd be surprised. Been seeing her for more than a year now and the thing I like most about her is that she advocates for supplements and more natural alternatives over just endlessly pill pushing like many other mental health professionals. Also like that she does video appointments now, too, which saves me more than an hour of driving, which is super convenient. I will continue to see Joanna as long as I live in this area. Just terrible, Dr Vanvleet would not listen to me or my concerns. Attempting to just medicate me with horrible medications that made me ill. Still she would not listen. Dr. Vanvleet thinks she "knows it all". Shame on her and her medication pushing. All about that money ????

A very enjoyable place

Dr. Van Vleet is a great doctor, and knows what's up! I've been seeing her for over 3 years re: my mental health. She's a psychiatrist who has a loyal/robust patient load, and genuinely wants the best for each of those patient's. About prescribing medications, it's her line of work, and she endorses therapy with psychologists alongside medication very strongly. As far as office staff they are a small group of lovely ladies. If something doesnt seem right with your insurance coverage or you have any issue at all - they will work with you through it. Dr. Van Vleet is a great doctor, and knows what's up! Dr. Vanvleet is a awesome doctor. My first visit which was over a year ago, was great. She listened to my issues and addressed everything that was going on in my life. I have been doing very well since seeing her, I do not understand the negative reviews from the other people. The doctor herself was a pleasant experience. The staff member at the front counter was an absolute nightmare to talk to. Ill-informed on how to properly and efficiently do her job. I had an appointment set up for yesterday but never recieved a courtesy call (even though I had given my number several times). They called my mother's phone number, and NEVER contacted me. I called to ask when my appointment was told it was yesterday. Asked if they did courtesy calls she said yes, informed her I never got a call, and was told "It's not my responsibility to know when your appointment is. You should know." ABSOLUTE DISGRACE. Let me start by saying that I Had my reservations about going to see a psychiatrist to improve my mental health. I took a big first step in setting up an appointment with Dr Vanvleet’s office. The first visit wasn’t bad. I wasn’t super happy that she went straight to medication despite the fact that I had told her I wasn’t a big fan of meds and wanted to avoid them if possible. However, she is the doctor so I followed her recommendation. Between my first appointment and my second my partner had lost her job and I was struggling financially. I was contemplating cancelling the appointment, but I wanted to work on improving my mental health. I called the office before my appointment to ask how much the visit was going to cost me. When they told me it would be $56 I decided I had enough to go in. After my appointment one of the girls up front told me that the visit was going to be $107. I told her I had specifically asked prior to coming to my appointment how much it was going to be so I knew whether or not I could come in. The girl up front told me that she had told me that over the phone before they had looked into my insurance so she would write of the remainder. I thanked her and went about my business not knowing what was to come. About a month later I get a letter telling me I owed $50. I called and explained what had happened and that I was confused as to why there was a balance on my account. The lady on the phone said that no one in the office would ever say that and that in all her time working there she has never heard any of the girls up front promise that because they don’t have the say so to do that. I told her that had I known that my portion was around $100 I would not have gone in. She said that it was my portion to pay and acted as if I was making everything up because “no one here would say that” and “I sit next to them when they are on the phone And I have never heard that.” She was really rude on the phone. She didn’t even try to hide the fact that she thought I was lying to get out of paying my portion. She said the only thing she could do is ask the doctor if she could write it off but the doctor deserves to get paid for her time (I was in her office for 10-15 min mind you). A couple of days later I get a letter saying they are terminating me as a patient and that I need to call to set up a payment plan. Dr. Vanvleet was nice enough but her office staff is in complete shambles. Significant miscommunication within the office, including providing my information to another person unauthorized to access my account, caused major problems, including the need to find alternative housing due to confusion between myself, the office, and my landlord. A referral to another office resulted in no phone call in over 2 weeks. The therapist said they received none of my information and they require new patients to fill out a form online before they will accept the appointment. I was informed of none of this. Cutting to the chase: Severe office miscommunication Spoke to an unauthorized person about my appointment. Need to find new housing because of their gross errors Referral that was not just incomplete, but non-existent. God forbid you should need their help. We really love her.

Let me start off by saying, if I could give zero stars, I would. This establishment is an absolute atrocity in every way. The blatant disrespect, nasty attitudes and lack of compassion that I received from the front desk employees was extremely disappointing. It's clear from the first visit that Dr. VanVleet does not hold any form of compassion or kindness towards her patients. It's very disheartening to see someone in this field, a field that is focused solely on helping people, not give a damn about the people they took an oath to help when they obtained their degree. Dr. VanVleet and her staff have also made it very apparent that she is in this field strictly for the paycheck and not to help people better themselves. It goes without saying that I will not be returning to this disgrace of a medical practice and will be encouraging everyone I know to not step foot anywhere near this doctor or her team.

Dr.VanVleet is knowledgeable about medications. Dr. V really should work on hiring competent staff.

Gave false information on court documents. Failed to properly write prescriptions and then blamed the patient. Consistently has a horrible attitude toward the people she is supposed to be helping. A complete disgrace to her profession.

Dr. Vanvleet treats my boyfriend and she is amazing! She sat with him to find out what was troubling him and finding the right ways to help him. She is a very motherly woman and we are very lucky she is here to help us! Thank you!

I was referred to Dr. VanVleet by a friend. She is the only doctor that I ever had that seriously takes the time to listen to the patient and come up with a plan that will help the patient. If the plan is not helping, she will continue to help the patient with a new plan all the way until one works. She is amazing and caring and compassionate and very patient with her patiences. Vanvleet is one of the best doctors I have ever had the pleasure of seeing. She listens and will work with you to reach a healthy, balanced and safe outcome.. When I talked to her about my weight she worked with me and changed my medication so I could loose weight and still be mentally healthy.

She has given me excellent care. I’ve been seen her for a few months, and I am feeling and doing much better since.

She is just awesome !!!

Dr. Van Vleet is just amazing! She's patient, she listens, and she's willing to try things that other doctors might not. She understands that each patient is unique- that some of us are 'zebras' not 'horses.' Her support staff is just as kind and compassionate as Dr. Van Vleet is. Dr Vanvleet is no longer taking patients. I see her nurse practitioner. The only issue I have is that it is very difficult to reach this office by phone. Why, I have no idea. No one picks up the phone.

I first saw Kim in May of this year. I was very panicky and was not able to live my life. She talked me through her medication route for me and I've been on them since then. I've been seeing Dr. Vanvleet for a year and a half, and I have never received less than an outstanding care. Turning for help when I did and choosing Dr. Vanvleet as my provider has been the decision that made it possible for me to work through some taxing issues and excel in my personal and professional life. I value understanding and respect I am treated with every time I come in for my appointment, and I wholeheartedly trust Dr. Vanvleet's expertise.

Dr. Vanvleet was recommended through a very dear friend and I was lucky enough she was still accepting new patients. I went in with a good idea of what my deal was and she agreed. She helped me further understand and treated me like a human. The last time I stepped foot in a similar type of office to see a similar type of doctor, the human part was not the case. Vanvleet made me feel comfortable and I have been seeing her ever since (almost two yrs). Great staff, great doctor. Life is good!

Dr. Van Vleet is very good at diagnosing issues and prescribing the proper medication needed for successful recovery.

Filled out a new patient application through their website several weeks ago while going through an emotionally disturbing time in my life. Followed up by leaving a voicemail expressing my need to see a psychiatrist as soon as possible. My call was never returned and my application was never processed. When I called today, I was told that the Doctor had changed her schedule and was no longer accepting new patients even though the website clearly states accepting new patients. Unprofessional.
