John Christopher Strunk

Dr. John has been a game changer for me! We clicked instantly and he has taught me so many valuable skills. There is no one else I would recommend. Very professional, reliable and a delight to work with.

Dr. Strunk is very professional and patient. My teen and preteen always look forward to their next visit. The visits did not start this way but communication has gotten better and better one visit at a time. We all are thankful for him.

Terrible experience. All staff was rude during the visit to myself and other patients, I never even got to meet with Dr Strunk. Two of his staff saw to me, during which they asked me what illness *I* thought I had and then left me to take an online test. I could literally hear staff in the hallway speaking about patients in a rude manner as though they were objects rather than people. The two staff members came back, told me they would start me on Buspirone & Effexor and rushed me out on my way with little explanation. I was having mental health issues and came to speak with someone that could actually diagnose me and help me with it, NOT tell someone what I think is wrong, be given meds, and rushed out quickly. My anxiety was absolutely horrible after that experience. I had to make a second appointment when I was in the office waiting to be seen but I never went back for that appointment as I dreaded going back in to deal with the staff.

Dr Strunk was understanding and professional, never giving me the notion that he was not more than able to provide exactly what I needed today. He came highly recommended, and I was not disappointed. My circumstances for seeing Dr Strunk today were probably not the same as someone else, but I would still highly recommend him.

I have referred several clients to Dr. John C. Strunk for med management and am so pleased by the very competent and professional help they have received. An invaluable resource. Thank you!

The place is weird.. weird atmosphere… they’re very short staffed… they will prescribe you anything and won’t ask if you’ve even taken the medication before. As soon as you explain how you’re feeling. Whom ever you’re talking to leaves and next thing you know you have a prescription they haven’t explained or educated you on nor will they tell you what the prescribed .

Dr.Strunk is great, very empathetic, knowledgeable, and experienced. I know that he has great understanding of what I am going through. This is the 1st doc I feel completely safe with as he is unconditional and non-judgmental.

This is the worst psychiatrist I’ve ever dealt with. His staff is hateful and not helpful in any way. They forget to call your meds into your pharmacy and they lied to me on the phone and would hang up on my phone calls. He terminated me as a patient for an issue with someone at the front desk and I didn’t receive a letter or anything. He left me in the middle of treatment with no medication refills and no other mental health recommendations. I had a panic attack at his clinic upon finding out this information

Honestly, this was the best care I've ever had with a phsyciatrist. I would recommend Dr. John 100%. He was thorough and helps you find a long term solution for any issues. Super caring, sincere, and has you leaving knowing you're on the right path. I definitely felt cared for and valued by everyone.

Dr. Strunk has been my all time favorite mental health professional I've ever worked with. He is a phenomenal listener, but also can skillfully interject exactly the thing you need to hear exactly when you should hear it. I'm incredibly grateful for the time I've spent with him and cannot more highly suggest him.

I see on here that someone that has access to the reviews are breaking HIPPA laws by saying what kinda of medicine their patients are being prescribed.. If a patience is having trouble following a treatment plan maybe the doctor should see what is going on with that patience that they are having trouble following it. Amazing experience!! I’ve seen a few doctors for the issue I was having and came across Dr. Strunk. They are quick and available right away and the Dr. knew exactly what I needed when other Dr. could not help. I would definitely recommend him 100 percent!!

Dr. and his staff were very rude. Considering they are dealing with mental health they should have some compassion. Would not recommend to anyone as i was unfortunately. Not at all concerned about my well being. Plus they talk about you and laugh. Good luck.

We drove from tallahasse to dothan for appt,got there to talk to him about the tremors from meds he gave her,he said How are you? She said ok,he said ok here's your refill and walked out I said what about these tremors,he said oh i will get her something, handed the meds no education about med at all,he started her on high dose a few days later she got so sick had to take her to hospital,we made several calls to him none were returned,I left another message saying she's in a desperate situation ease help,calls never were returned not even from answering service,er had to do cat scan,chest xray and labwork,labor, he didn't care,and I don't need a reply back supporting wrongdoing.

Most uncompassionate dr. I've ever had. After being a patient for a year I've yet to meet this man but for 2 minutes. Most incompetent office my wife and I ever had to deal with. They call to confirm appt. then never call you. You call them and they tell you your not on the list. My wife got a call and a message. Doctor Strunk has been my mental Health Doctor for several years. He was my last ray of hope. Not one Dr. even listened to my problem. That goes for several Drs. in the Dothan area. Very bad Anxiety and depression. I got a small booklet in the Sunday Eagle. I found the Dr. in that booklet. I was on my last few weeks. He took me in and fixed my problems, and I sleep all night whereas I did not before. Dr. Strunk saved my life. I owe my life to him. For 10 years.

Dr strunk and his staff went above and beyond to accommodate My mother , to keep her on her correct meds the whole time she had pneumonia , and was recovering from a week on a ventilator . I want to say a big thank you

I was a patient of his for years and had me on a concoction of medicine that has lead to health issues later in life.

Very rude front office staff. And when you address that someone was rude to you with another member of the staff, they don’t care either. I have been using this office for about a year but after this experience I will be moving somewhere with staff that actually cares.

My first visit and They just thought I wanted to come in for Substance abuse and then denied me a treatment. Not the place to go if your looking for help. I have a lot of things going on and not much clarification on anything with the nurse practitioners and doctor Strunk himself. I had an appointment with them at 11 this morning and they called me a week ago to reschedule to 2:20 pm today because of some family emergency but then I found out that they were having a pizza party because my husband delivered to them this morning.I had to wait over 2 hours to even be seen by someone. None of them explained to me any of the processes and it was only my first time going back. Didn’t know I had to choose between getting a tooth pulled and taking the pain killers or stop taking my xanax but no one said anything about it until afterwards. Wait times are always over an hour. Waited 2 hours and was seen by a medical student but billed for a physician visit. Staff does not wear masks. They are very unprofessional and treatment is poor.

I just tried to schedule an appointment with Dr. Strunk. I was placed on hold for 11 minutes and when the receptionist came back on the line she was laughing and kept saying "I'm so sorry!" while laughing. OK, whatever. As we were scheduling she kept telling me dates and then saying, "Oh, no. That's not a good day." We finally came up with a date and time and I asked if we could do it over video. She told me no because I am a new patient, I needed to come in to fill out paperwork. So I asked her if I could fill it out online or come in on an earlier day to fill it out and still do video, and she very rudely yelled in the phone, "YOU HAVE TO FILL OUT PAPERWORK!" while someone else was loudly laughing in the background. I told her "I understand I need to fill out paperwork, that's fine." She started giggling again and asked me for my name. At that point I just said thanks, never mind. We've been on hold and unable to speak to even a nurse for a week after several attempts. They seem to be unwilling to put my spouse on any medication actually covered by our insurance. I go to a different psychiatrist and now so will my spouse. I suggest avoiding this place. It is unorganized, unfriendly, messy, and in a bad location for traffic. It was a very expensive mistake to try them out and I hope nobody actually needing medical care makes the same mistake. Edit: if I experience any sort of the retaliatory behavior outlined by other customers you will hear from the family lawyer Edit: post response. We were never told any of this information. Would that not A. be private medical info that you are revealing on a public forum? and B. Something a patient should know? Only gave a 1 star because you have give one to leave a review. Our family moved to AL with our daughter having metal health issues. We have been dealing with these issues for 7yrs. Upon her admission to the facility in AL. Dr Strunk , was assigned to her team. The encounter with this Dr and team has been so unprofessional, unkind, medical staff we have encounter. He spoke in a very un-ethnical way and was very hostile during a "treatment team meeting via zoom and faced the camera to a wall and would not allow access to him as he screamed very hostile and demeaning comments". Working with families is not a concern for this Dr, he just speaks and DEMANDS that we will do as he says as he said " it doesn't matter what you want, this is how I say it will be like or not nothing you can do". It is a very difficult place to be as a parent as this Dr seems to be "protected" behind the walls of the facility and can speak and act out how ever he wish with no consequences. no matter how hostile, un-ethnical, unprofessional he is being. The staff is no better to not report this behavior as the whole team seems to be very toxic as we can't move away soon enough. And this Dr will not step down as our daughters provider after we asked for a different Dr, he feels "Entitled" to do as he wishes and has not once taken a minute to speak with the family, only taking the word of a toxic therapist whom has created this toxic relationship with our family and facility. This Dr is very much using his position of "Power" and is a bully. As a new patient, this guy spent about 5 minutes with me. Total waste of time and money. I won't be going back. Staff was nice. The wait time is about 2 hours, and then you get 5 minutes with him. He got paid plenty of money for his 5 minutes. He doesn't enjoy his work, doesn't like people. I would not recommend him to anyone.

I was grateful for years- I even used to travel hundreds of miles at one point- for Dr Strunk's guidance and willingness (unlike any of the 12+ psychiatrists I've seen before or since) to use stronger (including controlled) meds, off-label/experimental options, and combinations when the conventional/approved options had failed. Unfortunately, when he had me on several strong/controlled meds (may have been the stimulants combined with Xanax that contributed to my lack of inhibition?, Hard to recall) I said something rude about how short/abrupt follow up appointments are, and wishing I could speak a bit more. Although I guess it was mentioning an online review that called him a "pill pusher" that did it.. even though I didn't think that, if anything was grateful for the access to effective meds.. but whatever it was he refused to ever see me again. I didn't even know until months later when calling to make a follow up appt only to be told I was dropped and no further refills would be provided. They claimed to have mailed a letter about this earlier I never received. So I came off almost all of it cold turkey, as every other doc and facility in the area either wouldn't accept my case or wouldn't/couldn't prescribe anything close. Suffice it to say, it took years of hard work, prayer, discipline, and extensively studying the medical literature myself to forge my own recovery. I learned to live largely without decent insurance, paid time off, access to competent doctors, affordable/local therapists, and (conventional) meds. Maybe it was all for the best- thanks to an alternative practitioner in FL, I was finally able to find lasting, near perfect relief of all my issues- including quitting drinking within 2 weeks, smoking within another month and and all prescription medication (including for asthma/allergies, blood pressure, sugar, and triglycerides) in less than a year. *Btw- very long waits as many others said and don't expect to ever get records transferred anywhere- if they even exist- my 4-5 other psychiatrists and a disability lawyer certainly couldn't. If you are pleased with him, just be extremely careful and respectful whenever you speak to him directly or you could lose everything without notice as I did. Dr. Strunk is extremely intelligent and the staff have always been exceedingly helpful. He does have a large clientele so you may have to wait.

For the first time in many years... facing Bipolar II and all the obstacles I face... I was able to connect to my doctor to the point of tears. If you need help and face mental illness...there is help. Keep praying and don't give up. God will see you through.

I've been seeing Dr strunk since he was in Ozark ala he's always been on top of my mental health,you think he's not really paying attention to you but he is,it's just his mild manners, he's always been nothing but a caring physician! He knows me by name and has always been pleasent to me!!! Thanks to his Wonderful,friendly, staff I've ALWAYS felt comfortable with him! He does have a long waiting time but usually if you're a little early to your appointment he will get you in and out of office, quickly but officiant!!! Do NOT use this man, I repeat do NOT use this man. I have no idea how he comes up with his assessments and conclusions. He wrote completely false statements in an assessment which has caused our family a ton of hassle and unnecessary paperwork. He saw our family member for only a few minutes and made erroneous claims in her report that are completely untrue. BEWARE

Oh, and also, his staff is amazing. Considering the patient load that they have to deal with everyday, I give them full marks. And at no point have they ever been rude to me, at most, they seem like they get overwhelmed at times but that is understandable. A lot of people go to Dr Strunk because he is such a good doctor so yeah, you're going to have to wait a while and you're going to have to be patient. People don't seem to understand that his staff is doing the best they can. Yes, you might get disconnected on a call once in a while, give it a few minutes and call back. And if they seem irritated, I can imagine so! Think of what they have to deal with on a daily basis! But it is my personal experience that you get what you give. I'm always very patient and kind to them and I get it back in return. Those ladies work hard, and I have never heard them say a bad thing about anyone while signing in or out getting my appointment schedule. They work hard for their money, trust me.

Complete breakdown of patient doctor relationship. My prescription was running out so I called and said I needed a refill until I saw Dr. strunk again a couple of weeks later. I was informed that they can’t do refills by phone, that I had to see dr. Strunk and could make an earlier appointment to see him. I was going through a kidney stone that had blocked my only kidney so I didn’t know when I would be able to see him. Understandable except my prescription was for thirty days and no refills and they schedule my next appointment in 45 days. I go to my original scheduled appointment in 45 days and waited for over an hour in a room full of other people until I finally got fed up with the disrespect and told them to give me a refund on my copay and cancel any further appointments. Now I’m stuck without a psychiatrist, and without medications that I need. I’m just hoping my internal medicine doctor will start treating me again like he did before I lost my mind and asked to see Dr. Strunk

I was screamed at laughed at and downright treaed like a dog. This man and his staff are unprofessional and I wish to God I'd never walked into this joke of a Dr office.

This is the worst Dr you could possibly see. He and his staff are pure trash. If you or a loved one are thinking of seeing this man please don't. His nurse flat out lied about me and my regular doctor. She came in my room screaming and acting like a maniac when I asked her to calm down she proceeded to open the door telling other staff I was the one yelling at her. The doctor and the staff laughing the whole time. They treat people like human cattle. Stay away!!!!

This doctor is a pill pusher. He does not care about his patients. He will not even spend two minutes in the room with you. I had a specific incident where he was standing outside the door of the room that I was in and read my description of why I was there that day and started laughing at it. He then preceded to walk over to the other staff that was in the hallway and read my description to them and they all started laughing. This is just one of the major violations that this office has done. I have experienced multiple bad visits going there. They do not care about you or your mental health. All he cares about is a paycheck. Please go talk to all of the doctors and trained medical professional staff around and get their opinion of him. I have not met one medical professional that has anything good to say about him.

Horrible service. I walked in and signed in and saw 4 people above me with appointments and the same time. Waited for an hour to be called back and was then asked if I was a new patient. Had appointment at 2pm I arrived at 130pm so I would have time to do the new patient papers work. I sat till 330pm. I went to the front desk to ask why so long. Well , they did not like the tone of my voice. I was asked had I ever been seen by this Dr Strunk. I said No I am a new patient. I was asked to leave and not come back. Boy did God saved me. If you take ANY CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE stay away from Dr. Strunk. I just moved back to Dothan from Houston, TX and have been taking the same meds for over 10 years. I've been prescribed the same meds by 3 different doctor's over those 10 years and never had one single issue. The last doctor I've had in Houston I used for 4 years and is VERY well respected. Again, never one issue. Years ago, I had elbow surgery and got addicted to pain medicine. It was a long hard battle getting over that addiction, but I've been clean and sober now for 4 years (by the grace of God and working a recovery program). When I visited Dr Strunk the other day I was told that the DEA was cracking down on doctor's prescribing these drugs (very common controlled substances) and that he wouldn't prescribe them to me... The real kicker was he told me I needed to focus on my recovery... Again, I work VERY hard on my recovery and took his comment as quite an insult! My mother also goes (or should I say went) to Strunk for years and never had any issues until his office was recently raided by the DEA. In my opinion Strunk needs to just shut the doors. Some of us need a controlled substance to help us and MOST of us don't abuse these drugs... Stay away from Dr Strunk unless all you need is prozac or similar meds... He apparently doesn't prescribe controlled substances any longer. I need to also add that I truly believe Dr Strunk USED to be a great doctor and still has the capabilities... I'm not sure if the DEA raid was for legitimate reasons or not (I imagine it was not, because I think psych docs get unnecessary scrutiny from regulations and such)... Whatever the reason may be it has apparently put too much fear into Dr Strunk and he is scared to prescribe medications that people actually need to live a normal life. It's really a shame, because I reiterate that I believe Dr Strunk is great at what he does... he's obviously just afraid of the DEA. I Had the worst patient experience with a Doctor. In my opinion, the past DEA raid has Dr. Shrunk rattled. He was affordable but you get what you pay for here. The Staff is nice, and welcoming, but Dr. Shrunk is short winded, and never really took anytime with me to see what my underlying problem was. I would suggest researching the practice, and the doctor, before you let anyone recommend meds to you. I went where my insurance said was in my network. If you have to pay more out of pocket to see a good doctor, I would suggest you do just that. Dr. Shrunk really let me down and made me feel he did not want to help me. My first visit, he met with me, after an hour and ten minute wait past my appointment time, he was with me for not even 1- minutes. Prescribed me a different RX for depression, changed my prescription for anxiety. I asked his staff and him if they wanted my records from previous doctor I'd been seeing for years before my move to Alabama. All refused said they "didn't need them". No one asked me for blood test or urine test to check my system for drugs. Second visit was changed to sooner one as I was having bad reaction to new one he'd prescribed. One of his staff came in, after 48 minutes past appointment time, and accused me very harshly of being a drug addict. Then I heard her and doctor talking outside the door of office I was in. He entered and was harsh, retelling me what 'she' had stated. I told him I was given 5 pills to hold over until I could get in to see him first time as I would have been out cold-turkey. He left in a huff. Next staffer opened door about 10 minutes later and said I could head up front. I told first one who saw me I had to stop meds he prescribed as bad reaction. Nothing was said by her or him to try a different one. I asked about DNA test given me on first visit, no answer at all about it. I asked him in hall why I was up front. He said to check out.
