I recently had the pleasure of visiting Dr. Jorge Alvarez's practice, and I couldn't have been more impressed with the level of care and expertise I received from both the doctor and the staff. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted warmly by the receptionist and made to feel at ease. The waiting area was clean and comfortable, and I was seen promptly at my scheduled appointment time. During my consultation with Dr. Alvarez, I was struck by their deep knowledge of cardiology and their ability to explain complex medical concepts in a way that was easy for me to understand. They took the time to listen to my concerns and answer all of my questions thoroughly, and I felt confident in their recommendations for my care. Throughout my visit, the staff were all incredibly friendly and professional, and they went out of their way to make sure that I felt comfortable and cared for. They were knowledgeable about the practice's procedures and policies, and they made the process of scheduling future appointments and getting my prescriptions filled as seamless as possible. Overall, I couldn't have had a better experience at Dr. Alvarez’s practice. The doctor and staff are truly exceptional, and I would recommend them to anyone looking for top-quality cardiology care. You couldn't dream of a doctor as incredible as Dr Alverez. For starters he treats everyone with respect and he cares deeply. His reputation is top notch and deservedly so. He's extremely knowledgeable and he's literally been one of the greatest blessings in my life, and in fact he performed a life saving procedure on me about 5 years ago, I have a second chance because of him, and I told home at my last visit, that I'm helping others and making it count. God bless this Man!

After receiving a problematic heart-cath report from my local cardiologist in Corpus Christi, I was referred to a local thoracic surgeon. A family member recommended Dr. Alvarez in San Antonio. After reviewing my case he found the recommendation for surgery to be unnecessary. He performed a second heart-cath procedure, inserted three stents and prescribed a statin med to regulate my cholesterol. He is personable, bright and down to earth. We were very impressed with the personal care we received as well. My advice is to “always seek a second opinion!” In our case that advice led us to Dr. Jorge Alvarez, my new cardiologist.

Dr. Alvarez is an AMAZING Cardiologist! My husband had numerous heart issues for several years and ended up having 8 surgeries in 18 months. The heart issues just never could get resolved. We made a huge life change and decided to move to San Antonio for better healthcare in 2007! We choose Dr. Alvarez and all heart issues were resolved very quickly! Dr. Alvarez is the TOTAL package - extremely intelligent, great decision maker, stays on top of new information, utilizes best practice and phenomenal bedside manners! Dr. Jorge Alvarez installed my Aortic Valve replacement and was a huge part in saving my life!!! There are not enough words to express the worth of this Cardiac Surgeon!!! I highly recommend him!!!

I am a new patient trying to make an initial appointment. I have left messages for 4 days and nobody returns my calls. Today I talked to a person answering the phone and was assured that Crystal, the secretary would call me as soon as she gets in. That was more than a hour ago and still no call back. I asked for the office manager's number but was told there was no alternate number and there was no way to speak with an office manager. So, today is Friday. I have been calling since Monday and have not been able to speak to anyone at the doctor's office. If I didn't need to see a cardiologist I wouldn't be calling. Terrible first experience . I had an appointment scheduled for May 23 for my mother as she has had high blood pressure for a while now . I had been In contact for the appointment and had been getting calls to confirm . My mother loves dr Alvarez, yet every appointment gets cancelled, every time we call we get these rude woman who just transfer don’t listen then do not answer the phone and the tell us to just call later. They have thee rudest answering people.

The staff informed me after I traveled 1.5 hrs for my appointment that the appointment was cancelled. I was not informed of the cancellation and they made no attempt to try to work me in despite the fact that I am experiencing symptoms. They told me to come back in 90 days. It seems like the staff is making medical decisions.

Met with Alfred Montgomery, PA-C. He is a very professional man, with great bed side manners. He was very knowledgeable and intelligent gentleman.

Introduced himself at beginning of stress test and never saw him during my stay at hospital. Didn't trouble himself to come by to do discharge or nothing.

1st visit was fine. After that I was ignored. Stress test scheduled for me with NO insurance was going to cost $15,000 so I informed the test provider that I could NOT pay $15,000 CASH. I've known Dr. Alvarez since he began his practice at the Cardiology Clinic of S.A. He is a wonderful, caring, and concerned physician and his knowledge in the field is surpassed by none.

My Father was a patient of Dr. Alvarez. Staff and Doctor both rude and unwilling to take time for patient and their spouse/caregiver so as to continue care during chemotherapy. Unfortunately, my father passed away recently and quite suddenly in his battle with cancer which weakened his heart. I would not recommend Dr. alvarez whatsoever, beware!! I recently started having chest pain that was worsening. I discussed treatment/testing options with Dr. Alvarez and we decided to do a catheterization. Unfortunately, I tested Covid positive and was going to be rescheduled. Dr. Alvarez was concerned enough about my story that he worked with Methodist Hosp Cath lab to ensure I got treated. Good thing. If not for his diligence I most likely would have had a heart attack during quarantine. Quick overnight stay and I feel great. He has a great bedside manner and is very empathetic with his patients and the staff.

His office is easily accessible and his staff is very pleasant. His nurse Mallory is one of the most caring and professional people you could hope to meet. Even though Dr. Alvarez is rated as one of the best interventional cardiologists he is very down to earth and easy to speak with. He truly saved me from having a heart attack. After he heard my symptoms, he knew exactly the right procedure for me and within hours I had stents placed to open a blocked artery. He accomplished all of this even though I was newly diagnosed with Covid19 as well. During the my entire experience he made my comfort and understanding a priority.

My wife and I recently consulted Dr. Alvarez. We found him to be very pleasant, professional and knowledgeable. His staff was as he was, efficient and pleasant. They followed Covid precautions without being burdensome. We would recommend him very highly.

Friendly front desk staff, short wait time, knowledgeable and friendly nurses, Dr always willing to take time to explain in detail what his findings are and the same in answering questions.

First apptmnt was as scheduled and on time. The nurse asked me numbers regarding my health situation, regarding my medic. Dr. asked me questions regarding my health, listened to my answers. it was very confortable environment, Dr. was very easy to communicate with, and very competent. I was doing very well. my stint was working as it should and as a result Dr. Alvarez informed me my next follow up will be in a year. He asked me if I need any medic refills. I fell like i am in the hand of the best Cardiologist and would refer him with no hesitation

Dr Alvarez is a 5 GOLDEN Star TAVR Surgeon! He is a wonderful caring person and this is so important in a Doctor. We highly recommend him if you have to have an Aorta Valve Replacement and qualify for the TVAR procedure.

It was my first visit. I had some testing done prior. It was great to get my results so quickly. There was a delay with the testing but the visit was quick once that was completed. Dr. Alvarez was great at explaining everything!

Dr. Alvarez saved my life. I had a cardiac arrest and a heart attack. He operated on my and literally saved my life. Great Doctor and a great person. My family and I are indebted to him.

During this COVID-19 pandemic, we did our visit on webcam and it worked out great! They send you a link and u answer a couple of health questions and you get connected once it’s time for face to face appt via webcam program they use. He didn’t rush me, which I love! He genuinely is interested in your health progress and any concerns you may have. Since going with Dr Alvarez, he’s totally saved my life as far as my blood pressure is concerned. He is awesome!!!

The care is prompt and professional. Dr. Alvarez is knowledgeable in his field and I have great confidence in him. Moreover, he is personable and makes you feel comfortable during your visit. Practically all of my immediate family sees him, which is comforting to me because I know they are receiving exceptional care. I have known Dr. Alvarez since he saved my life in 2010. I had a heart attack and was blessed to have him on duty at the time. He is wonderful and compassionate and always takes time to explain things to you and answer all your concerns. I highly recommend him. He is the best. He is also my husbands cardio doctor and my daughters cardio doctor.

If you want to know which doctor to go see, ask a nurse. Dr Alvarez came highly recommended and I am so glad I saw him. Very patient, explained all things to me. Always on time and pleasant. His history as a cardiologist is well know in the Methodist system and the care he provided was the best. His office staff are the same. Dr Alvarez is an outstanding cardiologist. He listens to your concerns and offers advice on procedures to remedy the problem. His office and support staff are also great. Appointments are on time. His advice is in layman's terms and easily understood.

I was immediately called by the nurse. Then Dr. Alvarez's Nurse came in to check with me to ask about my follow-up visit. Dr. Alvarez then came in right after that. I had all of my questions answered and he scheduled another appointment in Mid March to make sure everything was on track. I highly recommend Dr. Alvarez and his staff to take care of any heart problems. I was finished at 11:30.

My last visit was very pleasant & professional. I was checked in right after that I arrived. The next assistant got me ready to see the nurse & Dr. Alvarez. Had an informative visit with my Dr. Alvarez he did my evaluation & I was on my way to check out. Had a change in my meds.

Referred by Dr Bucay(another cardiologist) for bad aortic valve. During screening he discovered blockage and installed 2 stents and I never felt a THING! My understanding from other people and people in the medical field is that he is the top rated heart surgeon is San Antonio. He will do a valve replacement on me in January/2020 and he has my complete trust. He heads up the So TX Heart Valve Center as well as on staff at Cardiology Clinic of SA and I equally impressed with each and every member of his support team. Each and every one of his nurses excel and their knowledge in responding to a question is evident in their prompt and direct answer. He obviously has my highest recommendation for anyone considering a physician for cardiac care.

We are so happy to have come across Dr. Alvarez and his staff since 1995!!! My father ( Jose Martinez) is not the easiest patient to manage; today he is 81 years old, primarily Spanish speaking, has multiple medical conditions along with being a kidney transplanted patient to say the least. IF you are in need of staff that treats you like FAMILY- you will find that with Dr. Alvarez and his staff. Today, my dad showed up to his appointment one day early on accident and as busy as they are- Danielle, Denise Vega, and Leticia Llamas, LVN added him on the schedule so he didn't need to travel back to San Antonio again tomorrow. People reading this review- this accommodation meant the world to my family along with the care that is provided at every visit. Stop looking for another Cardiologist and call this group to schedule. I had a terrible experience with no sedation there was either none or it didn't worked ! I felt everything that was done to me & it was pretty bad! I would never do this again for a heart blockage which I didn't have! The dr spent a few minutes with me & when I complained the nurse tried to give me more sedation that still didn't work & I actually started to bleed out & she told me that what I felt wasn't blood because she walked away & didn't put long enough proper pressure on my artery in my vein! Dr. Alvarez is my new hero. He did an amazing job figuring out how to repair a large (24 mm or 1-inch) ASD (hole) in my heart and near my aortic valve via a cath procedure so I did not have to undergo open heart surgery. Although it was recent and I'm still being monitored for a few issues, I know that I'm in good hands. He has a good bedside manner and his staff is very responsive and kind. I waited about 1.5 hours for my initial consult, but being in the medical field myself I know how very busy he is, AND that he is one of the best in the city. In my opinion he is well worth the wait. He really cares and will figure out the problem. ALL of my other doctors missed my birth defect even though I had all of the symptoms.
