Dr. Joyce T Lee

Condescending when I had complications. Horrible experience.

Very short version- Another oral surgeon saved me from Dr. Lee's failures. Within a week of wisdom tooth extraction by Dr. Lee, I experienced an undiagnosed broken jaw. Despite contacting and visiting Dr. Lee on numerous occasions to have the ongoing pain and multiple infections remedied, all I would get from her are comments like you are just weird. Unbelievable. After several weeks of this, not in my right mind, I basically gave up. Thankfully, my wife forced me to see another surgeon- Dr. Maron. He diagnosed it within minutes and said he did not understand how I am on my feet. He ended up having to perform surgery due to bone infection, scoop out necrotized bone, and wire my jaw shut. In short, he saved my life from Dr. Lee's unfathomable failures that I still cannot reasonably explain. --------- Here is the longer version I initially posted- I wish i could give a zero. Several years ago, due to convenience of her office and referral from my dentist, I allowed Dr. Lee to remove three wisdom teeth she stated were posing a risk to my health. After removal, I felt a crack and experienced bleeding in my mouth. It occurred on a Friday evening. I immediately called her and she directed me to continue taking the prescribed medicine and come into her office on Monday. She took x-rays, and from that point on failed to ever diagnose that I had experienced a fracture of my jaw. I, belatedly, learned that I had placed too much faith in her professional judgment-- and I still wonder what other reasons could explain her almost total lack of responsiveness. I will shorten this to say, after returning to her office and speaking with her at least a dozen times after the procedure, over the course of almost two months, I continued to get infections, and told her my bite did not feel right. She would respond with comments like "your mouth is just weird," or "well, you have a cross-bite." To which I would respond, but I would always have had one, and my bite feels very different from how it always felt (I was over 40 years old). My wife finally forced me to pay out-of-pocket (I will admit that also influenced my continued faith and hope in her services-- I did not want to incur the costs of uninsured re-treatment). I proceeded to visit Dr. Glenn Maron, and he immediately diagnosed a fracture, said i should not be walking around based on the life-threatening bone infection I had experienced (which an independent reading of a CT scan had speculated about and Dr. Lee simply dismissed out-of-hand as an over-cautious diagnosis). Dr. Maron almost immediately scheduled me for surgery that he performed on May 16. He stated he "scooped" a portion of necrotic bone from my jaw "like a melon." He inserted a metal plate to secure the damage. I legitimately credit him with saving my life. Due to her extreme unresponsiveness and even worse, how she continued to dismiss all concerns, even of other doctors for over a month, Dr. Lee should no longer practice medicine. Seek her services at your own risk. I shudder to think of others who have received similar treatment from her.

I wish I had read the reviews that are posted here before I attempted to go to Dr. Lee. About 4 years ago Dr. Lee removed my husband's wisdom teeth and she was fantastic so when I needed a consult about an extraction for myself, I asked my primary care dentist to refer me to Dr. Lee. There must be a different front desk staff than the one I encountered today. The other reviews give them high marks, but my experience was nothing like that. In my 60 years of going to dentists, doctors, etc. this is the RUDEST office I have ever been to. When I arrived, the front desk attendant asked for my referral form. I told her that the referral was emailed from my primary care dentist three weeks ago and that Dr. Lee's office had called me when they received it to schedule my appointment. She repeatedly said, "well I can't find it", to which I replied, "it's 10:20, I have a 10:30 appt, what do you suggest I do about that?" She stomped away and asked someone else who must have told her to go ahead and check me in. I told her I felt like I was being treated like a criminal for showing up without a piece of paper - a piece of paper that they already have. Then she asked for my insurance information - which I gave her. She said that the card I gave her "probably wouldn't work". I responded that its the same card I gave to both my Endodontist and my primary care dentist, and it worked just fine for them. BTW - I had confirmed with my insurance provider weeks beforehand that Dr. Lee was "in-network". Finally, I was called into the office area where I was told that they needed an x-ray. I just paid $300 at my primary care dentist for a full 180 degree digital x-ray plus another $350 at my Endodontist for a 3-D digital x-ray, so I asked why we needed yet another x-ray. By this time, the office manager came around the corner and said that "I appeared to be unhappy", to which I said that the front desk check in experience was downright rude and I asked why I was going to pay for another x-ray when we already had two. He said the technology that the other two dentists used was "old technology". My primary dentist just installed his new x-ray equipment in December 2022, and my Endodontist just installed his new x-ray equipment in January 2023 - so that explanation did not set well with me. Both e-rays had been provided to Dr. Lee for review. At this point I was fed up, so I suggested that I may just find another Oral Surgeon, to which the office manager replied "BYE!". I walked out, and would NEVER EVER suggest anyone go to this practice!

PLEASE READ BEFORE SCHEDULING HERE!! I was referred here from my Doctor for my tmj issues. Tried to be seen for two months. My first appointment was cancelled because I didn’t confirm my appointment by text message. As I was crying and begging to keep my scheduled appointment that waited over a month for, Shari, The Patient Coordinator/ supervisor, began to berate me and talk to me in a condescending tone causing us to get into a argument because of her unprofessionalism and because of how she was treating me. After she kept pushing me She got exactly what she was looking for and I told her how I felt. I hope this phone call can be reviewed. I eventually Made another appointment with Shari at the end of the call which meant I had to wait another month! I received a confirmation text for my appointment immediately after our call. Although upset I waited for my next appointment. I called to confirm this appointment before I went and was told I didn’t have one! I was transferred to Shari again and she proceeded to lie and tell me I cancelled the appointment. I know that she cancelled my appointment on purpose because she disliked me after our first interaction. She has literally prevented me from receiving treatment and will not allow me to make a new appointment. Shari Even contacted my doctor and told them to give me another referral. She told me during the phone convo that she had contacted my doctor but after speaking with my doctors office they said the letter /email was supposedly from Dr. Joyce lee although Shari admitted to me that she was the one that contacted them. So it Looks like she also forged a letter in Dr. Lee’s name. This is the most unprofessional person I have ever come in contact with in all my life! She is going to hurt this business and I hope she gets fired. I’ve requested to be contacted my someone else and supposedly there is never anyone else to speak with after leaving multiple messages for someone else to call me. Since Shari wants to play schedule police I am now forced to write this review. I hope her karma finds her for preventing people for receiving treatment. Front desk...front desk....front desk.....my general dentist recommended this office so I made an appointment for a consultation. I arrived and they asked for X-rays and I mentioned that they were sent over previously. They were unable to locate them so I called my general dentist office and they immediately sent them over. After receiving the X-rays that they asked for, I was told that I needed more. I did ask why and of course they needed to take another view however they told me that it was FREEEEEEEE. Well they lied and sent me a bill for over $100 and pretty much said that no one said it was complimentary. Well I paid the consultation fee however they sent me an "I'm disappointed" email for only paying one fee. I sent them a disappointing email right back because they LIED. I will NEVER step foot in there again and yea Dr. Lee scared the hell out of me with all the what if's..... So I have to pay this damn fee even though they lied and will possibly send this $50 bill to a collection agency. It's so on principal right now and I do not recommend this office. Have never had such an unprofessional medical experience as we had today for my daughter's wisdom teeth extraction! The front receptionist was rude and confrontational. Dr Lee was mad and made no attempt to disguise her anger. She berated her office staff out loud in front of us. Told them that they were not acting like a team and that her day had not started off well because of them. When she walked into the room to start the IV on my daughter, she aggressively handled her and never introduced herself. The only positive thing I have to say about this place is that the nurses who worked with my daughter were very sweet and compassionate. Based on the way Dr. Lee treated her staff, I'm surprised anyone would choose to work for her. She may be a good surgeon, but her lack of manners and care make me wish we had gone elsewhere. Dr. Lee is the best of the best, her surgical assistants are amazing and so comforting!

Dr. Lee and her staff are the best! They were genuinely caring and made my son's teeth extraction anxiety-free for both of us. Every single person with whom we interacted (the receptionist, nurses, assistants, and the doctor), made us feel at ease and taken care of. Couldn't possibly ask for more.

I was referred to Dr. Lee as I was working downtown at the time and honestly was a little hesitant going to a doctor in the city (worked downtown, but live in the 'burbs). After the first few visits, I knew I had made the right choice to see her. She's straight forward, smart, pleasant to talk to about life and Asian food/cooking, and is a perfectionist (what more could you want when it comes to your teeth?). I needed an implant. Excellent experience. Was referred to her by a friend. Very professional. Prompt. Explained the process well. Very experienced and efficient. Great sense of humor and staff. Took good precautions during the Covid era. I would highly recommend.

AMAZING. My experience was amazing. I remember looking out of the windows and then I woke up and was sitting in the waiting area. The office had my medication, an ice pack, and some bomb chapstick (that I’m still using and smells better than my name brand). The team was also very friendly. Thank you!

I was referred to Dr. Lee by an endo due to a severe, difficult to localize, intermittent tooth pain, making it challenging to diagnose. After thorough imaging and clinical analysis, Dr. Lee worked in collaboration with my endo to get to the root cause of my pain. Once they determined that a wisdom tooth was the source of the pain, Dr. Lee expertly removed it, leading to a rapid recovery and a satisfactory resolution to my issue. i had all four wisdom teeth pulled in 2012 and I am STILL amazed at what a wonderful job Dr. Joyce did. Zero pain, two days down time and I was back to normal in no time. I would recommend her a million times if i could!

I was so nervous about having my severely impacted wisdom teeth removed, but Dr. Joyce made it a breeze! She had such a friendly staff, and was very understanding about making it as comfortable as possible (as this was the first time I went under). She was thorough and gave amazing after-care instructions.

Dr. Lee and her staff provided exceptional service and care throughout the entire process. I had put off getting my wisdom teeth pulled due to the horror stories I heard from others with their experience with their Doctor and awful recovery. Well, I am sooo glad my dentist Dr. J Baumrind referred me to Dr. Lee. This office runs like a well oiled machine. Everyone from the front desk staff to the nursing assists are not missing a beat. They are highly trained with great customer service. And Dr. Lee..wow, where do I begin? Super nice, friendly, great personality that makes you relax and trust her. The day of my surgery, I was in an out in what seemed like an hour. She greeted me, reviewed what I was getting done, I went to sleep and woke you chatting with my husband!!.. They checked on me and sent me home with post surgery instructions, pain meds and mouth rinse. My recovery was smooth sailing. Nothing like the horror stories I heard from others. I was back to 100% a week after surgery. Oh, and they schedule a follow up visit to ensure all is well. I am truly grateful to Dr. Lee and her staff for taking such good care of me. Dr. Joyce Lee and her staff were incredible! From booking the consultation to the surgery they were extremely thorough in what processes would be taking place. I had all four wisdom teeth being removed. The consultation was a brief 1 minute x-ray. Shortly after, Dr. Lee entered the room to explain that everything would be painless and they would make everything comfortable during the procedure. I explained to them my concerns for being prescribed heavy pain medication, they already take their own measures to give exactly what is needed (no hard stuff) however, offered to write a prescription Rx rather than supplying the drugs at their facility per my request. Awesome that they have the option! The front desk sent several follow up text messages and emails prior to my surgery with pre-surgery instructions and for the follow-up appointment. On the day of my surgery Dr. Lee and Mrs. Grant handled things very quick and professionally. I was sat down immediately and the rest is history. I was under for a grand total of 35 minutes for all four teeth. Woke up from the local anesthetic, assumed I would be in pain within 24-48 hours of surgery and have only been taking Amoxicillin and Advil. They supplied me ice packs, instructions for everything post-surgery and made sure I left the building safely with my designated driver. Dr Lee was recommended to me by my Dentist Dr.Williams for my wisdom teeth extraction and she is wonderful and funny...I have had three children and felt every bit of the IV the nurses poked in me,but when Dr Lee did it I felt nothing! I’m on day two of having 8 teeth pulled and besides the numbness of my jawline (which is normal) I feel fine. Dr. Joyce Lee is rude and impatient. Nurses are all very nice though.

I've been here twice & had no work done. I've been billed twice for services & still haven't had any work done. This dental office says it doesn't accept HMO. I had them check my coverage to make sure I would be covered & they told me I was covered. Now when I'm trying to schedule services, I have to pay in full because I'm not covered. Dr Lee is a terrific Surgeon! I have a bunch of complicated issues and every step of the way from the consult through to the surgery and recovery period...... everything exceeded my expectations! The entire team was knowledgable and genuinely helpful. 10 Thumbs up from me!

Dr Lee removed both of my teenagers wisdom within one month. Neither teen had swelling or bleeding nor pain. She was efficient, patient and she knows her stuff. My 17 yr old will have her wisdom teeth removed during spring break 2019 and Dr. Lee will perform hers too!!!!

I had 5 molars removed on NYE, completely forgetting that I made plans to host a small group of friends for THAT NIGHT. Other than a nap after the surgery, I had no needed down time and was right back on my feet doing normal things hours later. Nobody was able to tell that I had my wisdom teeth removed just 12 hours before. I had pretty much NO swelling and little to no pain. I could not believe it. I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed last week, and I can honestly say that Dr. Joyce Lee and her team are extraordinary. Getting my wisdom teeth out a bit later age than most, it was overall not that bad pain-wise. They think of everything for their patients. Once the procedure was done, we were sent home with ice packs, prescriptions from the office themselves and lip balm, etc. I've personally never seen a doctor go through the extra trouble to have prescriptions ready when you leave, and that's what really made them 5 stars for us. Dr. Lee is an amazing oral surgeon and person. She chose to help my daughter out while she was in a compromised health position having recently suffered a severe traumatic brain injury. Most of her peers probably wouldn't have touched the case. But Dr. Lee figured it out and quickly worked us into her schedule. She did a tremendous job pulling my daughter's 4 impacted wisdom teeth and Molly healed quickly with very little swelling and no complications. So grateful to Dr. Lee and her team! I recently had my wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Joyce Lee. The office is run effectively and most efficiently. I had one of the best dental experiences of my life. Her staff was phenomenal, especially her assistant, Lauren Lynn. Thank you for providing excellent dental care. the best part was the "goodie bag" that they prepare. In the bag, was pain medicine, ice pack, and mouth wash. Because of their care, no trip to the pharmacist was needed. This office would get my 100% recommendation. Dr. Lee and her team are fabulous! HIGHLY recommend!!! I was so scared when I came to her with my broken tooth root. She calmed me down, took care of me in a very efficient and professional way. I have had two extractions over the years by Dr. Joyce Lee, Metropolitan Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Associates in Midtown. I was amazed that Dr. Lee was able to perform each of the extraction using only a local anesthetic. And both visits were virtually pain free!! Each of my visits with Dr. Lee and her staff were great! I was greeted by her front office staff with a smile. Her assistants were professional and friendly, and helped me relax. Then before the procedure, Dr. Lee spent a lot of time discussing my health history, and thoroughly explaining the procedure to me. Her office helped me feel at ease and took all the anxiety out of the experience for me. Every staff member in the office contributes to patient care in some way. I also have family and friends who have seen Dr. Lee, and everyone seems to receive the same great care. This staff truly cares about each person they see!! If you are looking for excellence in Oral Surgeons, call Dr. Lee's office. They are simply the best!!! Wonderful staff & doctor, best dental experience of my life

Can't say much about the Doctor since I could never even get that far, but their support staff is rude and unhelpful. The confirmed my appt incorrectly TWICE - THEN I get a call that I'm late and figure out they confirmed the wrong time with me. I rushed out of work to accommodate their lunch schedule, gave them an ETA and was told it would be fine. I pay for expensive parking - walk all the way to their office only to be told the Dr. is with another appt and can't see me for 1.5 hours. AWFUL!

my experience with Dr. Lee and her staff was excellent! A very warm, welcoming environment with a very friendly staff was capped off by an easy to understand explanation from Dr. lee about my procedure. I would strongly recommend Dr. Lee!

Great office, staff, and Dr. Lee. They want to make sure you are prepared for surgery, no matter what you are getting done. They walk you through it, go over and steps and clarify anything you need, both the staff and Dr. Lee. Seen her twice and both times have been great!
