Rude staff. Good doctor? Not so kind with seniors.

I have fractures on my sacrum area and staff demanded that I waited standing outside when the waiting room was empty. My husband and I were both patients but only he had the appointment that day. The staff was extremely rude. I requested to speak to the doctor to tell that I could not stand but nothing. I will never come back there.

Dr. Petal goes above and beyond to try to provide the best service to his patients. He devotes a lot of his time and effort to make sure he has the best skills and techniques available to help his patients. He is very passionate about his profession and a great listener! He is the best!

Dr. Patal has one the best "bedside manner" of any physician that has treated me. He's not only passionate about his profession, he's extremely detail oriented in identifying the best treatment plan. He a wonderful listener and has an infectious personality. I've made several recommendations to family and friends.

Dr. Patel is one of the best doctors I've ever known. He has a great bedside manner and is very knowledgeable in his field. Wait times are unreasonable. 1hour plus for every appointment.

I’ve been taking my client to see Dr.patel for almost 6mths. We’ve only seen him once and everything else has been handled by his assistances. The first appt we made in Jan was never entered into there appt calendar. The second was canceled at the last minute. Our forth visit we were a couple minutes “late” due to the fact that my client is in a wheelchair and getting her around is hard on her. Please note we were not late for the actual appointment they ask you to be there 15 minutes early. So I get her to the office, get her settled and check her in. This was meet with rude comments by the staff. They were going to try to cancel her appointment. I told the woman our appt is at 9am we are not late and reminded her that my client is in a wheelchair !!!! So we go back to the room and the office manager comes in to reprimand us for getting there 5 minutes before appt. and that in the future they would cancel the appts. I said no your not and explained again our issues with the staff. So then covid came along and we’ve been doing Tela health and every third appt we have to go into the office. So last month we went to the office.., no problem. When we are done we made the June appointment that was supposed to be a tela appt. no problem right?!?!?! Nope got a call the evening before saying she has to be in the office as they don’t see the notes on there end that this was a tela appt... I was there.. I made the appt... I am so done with this office staff. Will be looking for a new Dr for her. I’ve been taking my client to see Dr.patel for almost 6mths. I’ve been to four different doctors with excruciating back pain no one would help me just ran me through hoops talked about PT couldn’t get an MRI from anybody then I met Dr. Patel. This doctor is the most caring patient doctor I’ve ever encountered he listens with passion and takes charge of the problem I recommend him to anyone and everyone with any kind of back pain he truly is wonderful I’m very thankful I found him. I was having an acute muscle spasm and Dr. Patel was able to fit me in same day for trigger point injections. My only complaint is that I didn’t call the office sooner, I suffered in pain all weekend bc I thought it might go away. I felt immediate relief after the injections. Dr. Patel is a fantastic physician and I would recommend him/the office to my immediate family members! I have been a Patient of Dr Patel since 2017. I was diagnosed with a Herniated disc on my L5 and the epidural injection has been a HUGE relief for excrutiating pain. Physical therapy and more stretching helped as well. Dr Patel is a compassionate and kind Doctor. He is respectful and very knowledgable in Pain Management. I highly recommend him if you suffer from back pain. I have been a Patient of Dr Patel since 2017. Dr. Patel is the best. He was able to diagnose my problem quickly and came up with a plan. I’m happy to say that I am now pain free. Dr. Patel is ABSOLUTELY amazing at what he does!! I have suffered with pain for many years and had given up any hope of a life without it until I became a patient of his practice. The front office staff is ALWAYS courteous, attentive, thorough, and professional whether I am in the office or on the phone. Dr. Patel's clinical team work as his left and right hand, which gives me peace of mind in knowing that my care is their top priority at every visit!! Being local to the area, I had heard great feedback from my friends and neighbors about Dr. Patel since they too had success stories while being under his care. Dr. Patel is the only doctor I will allow to get me shots in my lumbar spine. I have been getting shots on and off since 1996 and from a few different offices/doctors but now after 23 years he is the doctor I will let touch me since 2017......my PCP sent me to him and I can't find anyone I will trust!

I have been a patient of the Fair Lakes location Dr. Protopapas for over 3 years. I have RA. I recently had the onset of acute lower back pain(not upper as before). I can not walk in an upright position. I have home treated and am getting worse. I have missed two days of work and can not miss more. I went online and saw that National Pain and Spine has a new location 5 minutes away. Given my back situation- this is so much better than an hours drive(which I couldn’t do now if I tried). I set up an appointment online (wasn’t sure about new or existing), so made a new for 8:30am tomorrow morning. Tried calling this morning at 8:30 to clarify and verify insurance- never could get through. Waited on hold for 30mins. Thought I would try back at noon (lunchtime). Received a call at 9:36am and was told I was an existing customer so my appt was canceled. Apparently my old dr. (Protopapas) needed to transfer me to a new Doctor (Dr. Patel). Dr. Patel wasn’t in today Monday Feb 3rd(he is in Haymarket). But had appts Tuesday Feb. 4th in Aldie. (Caveat those appts are for new patients apparently Or follow ups, not existing acute pain patients). Dr. Protoppas transferred my account(?)To Dr. Patel at 11:36 am. I waited in immense pain for hours for a return phone call. The office closes at 4:00pm (and my previous 8:30am appt was cancelled due to practice procedures). I called at 3:10 and the automated or the receptionist kept hanging up on me once I got through the phone tree to speak to the office. It happened 3 times for a total of 36 minutes. I was in pain and desperate to hear back from the doctors office about an appointment for the next day. ER is too expensive right now and would have been unnecessary with a physicians appointment-I can’t seem to get as an existing not new but new to the location patient. I finally got through and spoke to a receptionist that told me she was alone in the office and did not hang up on me three times before. My iPhone record shows otherwise. She finally transferred me to the office manager after saying the doctor had not reviewed my file. The record they had since 11:30 am for a patient in severe pain (they are a pain management practice. It is there specialty- they should not be leaving patients in pain for hours over process). So for over 4 hours the dr was unable(too busy I was told) to accept a patient transfer from another office location. My file is unremarkable- 43 year old with minor herniation of a disc in my neck causing pinched nerve(which Dr. Protoppas managed as a consummate professional). No issues since. I finally got transferred over to office manager Cassidy. She looked for excuses at to how the system(their office system phones may have hung up on me- not their receptionist’s fault). I cared more about why I didn’t have a new appt to see the doctor the next day. Not why their system didn’t work(human error or otherwise). She was looking to displace blame and justify why I didn’t have an appointment yet after waiting all day. I have never had a medical practice show such blatant disregard for a patients pain over their protocol before- especially since it was the same practice. They prefer I go to the ER and spend thousands instead of getting the treatment they(the practice) as my pain management specialist could provide. I received a call at 5:18 pm from Cassidy to let me know that Dr. Patel has reviewed my chart and based on her conversation with him, Dr Patel would be unable (rather) unwilling to take me on. I guess expecting help after waiting hours while in pain makes me a difficult patient. I think they saved me long term pain because I am off to the ER instead. A physician and office that treats their patients that way would not have made my pain a priority. Word of caution to anyone transferring or going as a new patient. To existing patients- you deserve better, best of luck. There are more doctors out there. Perhaps they will learn from this experience, I certainly have. Thanks for listening. I saw Dr. Patel for my knee pain. He has helped me out tremendously! His staff is always so polite. It’s great knowing that Dr. Patel is always willing to hear all my questions and concerns.

Dr. Patel takes time to listen and is intent on offering the best plan for treatment of pain. He cares and is caring. Generally, I’ve gotten good relief from my pain. When it returns, he is always willing to re-assess and do further treatment without delay. In a word, Dr. Patel is exceptional. I highly recommend him!

A+ doc that continually strives to find the source and treat the problem, and not the symptom.

Dr Patel had full knowledge of what I was dealing with after I had complications from my fibula bone Not healing after a orif surgery of my right ankle. He was able to answer questions I had about the serious pain I was having explaining the difference between nerve damage and pain from the nonunion. He understood that I would need relief until I went back to my surgeon to find out if I would need another surgery and assured me that he would manage my pain throughout my ordeal. I am thankful

Dr. Patel and Physician Assistant Favi are the most compassionate and caring medical providers I have ever encountered. I have a complicated genetic condition, and they are determined to make sure I have the best treatment options available and am not in a lot of pain.

I was referred by two doctors to Dr. Patel, one of them the surgeon who performed my last spinal operation. Previously, I was quite nervous about getting epidurals. I found Dr. Patel very knowledgeable and easy to talk to...the best of any bedside manners I've found. He put my worries at ease. The office is friendly and very helpful. Very happy patient.

Great doctor. I had an injection in my elbow and back pain from powerlifting and division 1 football. Dr. Patel quickly fixed my problems. He is very knowledage and I highly recommend.

I started seeing Dr. Patel a little over a year ago when I developed severe neck pain. He was wonderful. He took time to answer all of my questions and put my mind at ease. After only a few treatments my neck is 100% better. If you are looking for a doctor with a good bedside manner, truly cares about his patients and will give 110% to your care, then Dr. Patel is for you. I have recommended him to friends and family and they have all had the same experience. Wonderful physician.

I have seen Dr. Patel several times for shoulder and elbow pain. He has always been extremely responsive and talks through all my options with me. He has always provided an immediate solution and always does this with extreme care and importance. I highly recommend him! The staff is also amazing!

Dr. Patel is simply amazing. I have had back pain for years even after 3 surgeries. He is the only Dr. that has been able to remedy this issue and get me normal again. Highly recommend. Staff at the office is the best!

This guy's ads say "Failed back surgery syndrome ? " I went to see him, having constant severe back pain following back surgery 2 years ago. After waiting an hour after, i got to see him. I explained my issue. His response was, verbatim, "what do you expect me to do about it?" I'm not sure why he would advertise this way if he doesn't want to try to help. My conclusion is that it's purely money driven. Pros: None Cons: long waits, zero empathy, waste of time, terrible bedside manner, etc.

Dr. Patel is outstanding. He has excellent bedside manner. He truly cares about your well being. I arrived on my first visit with #7 level pain. I am virtually pain free!! He's very thorough & patient while explaining & discussing all aspects of your problem. He exudes compassion with expertise. In addition, Hasna his assistant, Is outstanding as well.....caring, compassionate, & knowledgeable.

Dr. Patel is positive, knowledgeable, and willing to spend time with you. I have been suffering from chronic, debilitating back pain for over 6 years. He continued to think of possible ways to treat my pain when it felt like every other doctor gave up or just kept doing the same thing. The staff is friendly & top notch as well!

Due to degenerative disc disease, arthritis and stenosis in L4, L5, Dr. Patel recommended 2 cortisone injections. It was actually a nearly painless experience as I felt only little pin pricks when he injected lidocaine to numb the area. I barely felt the actual cortisone injections and the results were 100% improvement within 48 hours. I returned 2 weeks later and when I expressed how pleased I was and that I had minor pain only on the right side, he did 1 injection only on that side. THE BEST!!

I have been a patient of Dr. Patel's for a little over a year now. I saw him originally for hip pain that has been crippling at times. After an exam and sending me for a MRI he quickly determined that it was a lumbar issue that was causing my pain. My treatment plan was fairly straight forward, he recommended PT and a series of injections. I have a somewhat irrational fear of needles, Dr. Patel was great at listing to my concerns, and fears. I had my first injection and felt better than ever. In
