I am a retired but very active M.D,.The right sided hip pain has been my issue that the local orthos could not diagnose the cause of or treat.My P.T ,in response to my question he recommended Dr Safran in Stanford.I was utterly excited a good surgeon in Stanford .his staff requested all X-rays and lab reports or any medical records that I instantly complied with they kept telling me as I was calling to find the appt., date that he has not received the CD yet.The Radiology Medical records dept.,showed the proof that it was sent ,to his name and address . I once again sent him the X-rays registered.In spite of an appointment date I was told that he refuses to see me! what in hell there are quite a few other surgeons with the same interest of whom I mention Dr. Phillipon a Steadman MD partner and Dr. Jamali I got an appointment with him the same day his staffwhere simply human angels.What beats me is Dr Safrans arrogance,over what? Hi google review was only 3 stars yet Jamali was 5 stars and the worst was the testimony of an MD o the google review! .I am not interested in the opinion of an inferior surgeon and the Shumway Stinson Stanford is not the same as they had to resort to employing such a failure to the professorial level shame where did this prestigious Stanford en up being. Dr. Safran misdiagnosed me and crippled me. Due to him I have lost my job and my ability to walk. He caused severe nerve damage and denied it. I was a high performing athlete and now reduced to a walker. Stanford didn’t help me try to get network coverage for the care that could help me. Don’t trust a well know institution based on a name. I had my 4th hip arthroscopy with Dr Safran. I felt that doing a 4 hip arthroscopy after 3 failed attempts was insane, but he talked me into doing it. The arthrogram showed a diminutive labrum. I had severe instability and pain. He made no attempt to fix the labrum and came up with a bogus AAIS diagnosis. It did not work at all, and I chose to have THR ASAP after his failed surgery. THR gave great results. I skipped revision arthroscopy on the other hip as I knew the results would be unsatisfactory. With THR in both hips life is back to normal. The THR results would have been even better if it were not for the damage done in arthroscopy.

Dr. Safran changed my life. I spent 5+ years trying to figure out what was wrong with my leg. I went to physical therapy for years under the wrong diagnoses. I couldn't walk without copious amounts of pain killers. Other doctors chastised me because I couldn't pin-point my pain. Dr. Safran saw me for literally less than 5 minutes before he determined the source of my pain was my hip and recommended surgery. He fixed my problem where no-one else could.
