Mark W. Zawadsky

Mark Zawadski is an amazing orthopedic surgeon. In 2014, after living with a trick knee my entire life and ruining both knees as a result, I met Mark through a colleague. I’d been to six really good knee guys who all said the same thing - I really needed both knees replaced, but they would have to fix the trick knee first - in a very iffy operation that works about half the time. If it did work I was, they said, looking at 2 additional major operations and about 18 months with very limited mobility. When Dr. Zawadski looked at my X-rays and MRI, he got a big smile on his face, told me what a mess my knees were, and then explained in really simple English a new way of fixing my trick knee that could be done during routine knee replacement. He had already performed a number of the new trick knee fixes. A couple of months later, he replaced both knees and repaired the trick knee in a single 3-hour operation. And he even did it with an epidural - no general anesthesia, and some drugs that sent me on a quick trip to Barbados. While it took about four months to be able to climb stairs with no pain, I was showing houses three weeks after the operation. My knees still are working perfectly, and I have to say that the results were life-altering for me. I no longer had to worry about dislocating my trick knee and falling on my face, and I can climb stairs and take my dog on very long walks with no pain.

We went through his online scheduling system. This began July 1. We received SEVERAL confirmation messages about the appointment. But when we arrived for the appointment, we were told that there was not an appointment for me and that there never was. This is despite the fact that the online system definitely shows an appointment was scheduled.

I met with Dr. Zawadsky this Spring. I had done research and knew I wanted the anterior approach which is easier to recover from. He explained the surgery/ the post surgery, and it was totally accurate. I spent one night at Georgetown and started walking the first day. Went home the day after. I started taking the pain meds but then I realized I was not in pain. After the 4th day, I stopped taking them. Everything went smoothly. I do regret not to have done it before.

Mark William Zawadsky, MD is a pro, a hip surgeons hip surgeon and on top of that he is also a superb intra-articular hip disease diagnostician, something that can be said for only a few hip replacement surgeons. His physical exam was brilliant. I was sitting upright on his exam table and he placed his hand on the inside of my left ankle and put my L-hip into internal rotation by swinging my lower leg outward which made me go owww!! Then it was off to a hip preservation doc. Thank you Dr Z.
