**If you are in the market for an Orthodontist, I highly recommend you seek treatment elsewhere. **If you are currently a patient of this Orthodontist, I highly recommend that you seek the advice/opinion of another Orthodontist practice. When I was young, I receive care from this provider. This care included braces, as well as rubber bands. At the end of the treatment, my bite was still not corrected. Mary Burns recommended that I either have a jaw surgery or wear a specially made retainer. The Jaw surgery would not be 100% covered by insurance and it would result in eating no solids for approximately 6 months. My parents at the time did not seek the opinion of another Orthodontist, instead they believed Mary Burns at her word. They opted for the hand crafted retainer. This hand-crafted specially made retainer was priced at over 2,000$. I do believe Mary Burns to be very cunning to offer this option because once you buy this retainer, you will be stuck/indebted to her. If this retainer breaks, the only way you can get another one is by going to her. The alternative would be to enter re-treatment and receiving the initial price tag of going through braces and what not all over again. In other words, you either pay up to $7,000 for braces all over again, or pay $2,000 to Mary Burns when your retainer breaks or wears down. Most Orthodontist will not make the handcrafted specially made retainer because they see it as the chance to put braces back on you. Its also just for liability reasons given that they can’t just make a retainer because another Orthodontist did. There was a 3rd option that Mary Burns did not offer, which was continuing treatment.
