Dr. Rouse can be tough, but she is extremely realistic and practical. You're not always going to like what she says...I think at my first appointment with her I told her we had differing opinions on my condition, something sarcastic like that. Dr. Rouse is smart, knows teens, and will absolutely call you on your stuff. If you work hard, or at least show effort, she will hang right with you. Her job is literally to save our lives. She built Charis and has saved so many lives of young, adult, and older men and women. Her team is phenomenal to the desk to practitioners. She helped me through some tough times in the middle of the night several times. Please give her a chance. You likely won't like her the first few times you see her, even all the times you see her. Dr. Rouse is a wonderful doctor and saved the life of my daughter. She does wonderful work. I only found her to be extremely professional and caring for our daughter and for our family as we all were managing through this terrible disease.

Worst doctor ever. I went there about a year ago now and it was the worst experience of my life. The whole staff there is horrible. They lack compassion in every way. Doctor Rouse was always rude to me whenever I would go to my weekly check ups. Once she even made a smirk comment about how ridiculous it was that my mom could not come in for our weekly meetings. My mom deals with a very serious ill nous that makes it hard for her to go to many public places. After I told my mom she confronted her and Dr. Rouse lied about the whole incident claiming she never said that and how she was just concerned. One time I was going to be sent to inpatient but my mom and dad did not feel comfortable sending me to a unit under her control so they gave me another chance and then when I came back for my weekly check up she told me that no matter what if it is ever talked about me going again she will make sure of it I go no matter if my parents like it or not. Now the therapists suck there as well. I went to two. The first one was a family therapist and all she would do was tell my parents they needed to send me away whenever we went as well as show my dad chock hold for when I would not eat my food. The second one was an individual therapist. She was horrible never wanted me to talk about anything other than food and did not take into consideration the other tragic events that had happened in my life. Which could had been playing a role in my mental health issues. She would move around constantly while we would be talking and by the time I left I was more nervous then when we started. I wanted to change to the other therapist but they told me she was my only option because the other therapist which was a bit better from what I heard was all booked up. The dietitian yet again sucks. She really does nothing. I dont even know why she even works there. All she does is hand you 6 papers and says every so many days you need to move up and eat more. They dont help make a personalized diet for you as an individual. so finally I ended up leaving because I was in such a bad mental place I told my family I would rather be dead then be a success story for her. My pediatrician agreed to try and meet me eat week and would try and set small goals instead of impossible unrealistic ones. My doctor was so nice so encouraging and never threatened me with the hospital, but would give a firm warning to what would happen if I did not continue to progress. Now going on a year later I am back to a healthy weight and doing much better. Just showing a little compassion and empathy works wonders and sadly that is what Dr. Rouse lacks. NEVER EVER SEND YOUR CHILD TO THIS PLACE. I fear this may be the death of so many people struggling with eating disorders and sadly feel there is no other place but her. trust me you are better off doing it alone. I was discharged from this terrible place today after about a year and a half of “treatment.” Mary Rouse is the worst person I have ever met. I have no idea how she has a job as a doctor when she is rude and inconsiderate. I don’t even call her Dr. Rouse because she does not deserve that title. When I was in the hospital, Mary came to visit a couple times a week for a meeting to see how I (and other patients) were doing. During one of these visits she proceeded to tell me that it was all my fault that I was in the hospital and criticized me for struggling with such a basic human function. I stormed out of the room because if I didn’t I would have punched her in the face and cussed her out. This is the exact opposite of what one would want to hear out of their own doctor while at one of the lowest points in their entire life. She made my life worse than it already was. The therapists at the institution she works at were bad, too. I went to an individual and family therapist. The individual therapist made statements that caused me to change my behavior when in reality there was nothing wrong with it (like making direct eye contact). She also only wanted to focus on my eating disorder rather than other things I was struggling with. The family therapist offered absolutely no help at all. She told us things that we had already heard a million times and repeated herself. The only good people at Mary’s office were the psychiatrist (Dr. Litwiller) and the guy who worked at the front desk (James). I continue to see the psychiatrist at his other office that is much closer to my house. As for therapy, I go to a different person (Jennie Campbell) who is extremely nice and has been through an eating disorder before under the care of Mary. I highly recommend anyone with an eating disorder to go to her for help. She agrees that Mary is not a good doctor. If anyone has even read this far, please DO NOT send your child to Mary Rouse for treatment. She made my recovery living hell. I tried to convince my parents to send me to a different doctor but they didn’t. Save your child or loved one from this doctor and do not go to her. She was very helpful to my family after a tragic loss. I can’t say enough great things about her and her team.

I’m my opinion, Dr Rouse is vengeful. She has bad mouthed people and ostracizes others to “get back at them”. I don’t trust someone who enjoys bad mouthing others. I was disappointed to hear her bad mouth prior coworkers & employees, other treatment centers, as well as patients She appears to think she’s the only one who knows how to treat eating disorders and if you struggle, it’s because youre incompetent. If she’s really that great,why does she need to reject patients or bad mouth anyone

Dr. Rouse is a rude, poorly educated doctor who uses guilt as a mean of treatment. Do not recommend.

Dr. Rouse has helped my daughter deal with ED (eating disorder). She is loving and keeps you accountable. She helpes set goals and makes them attainable to help fight this disorder. I highly recommend her and the Charis Center.

Dr. Rouse and her staff have been compassionate advocates for eating disorder recovery. At times, I have slipped up with behaviors, she has held me accountable and taken appropriate medical action. She did a wonderful job helping me explain and provide psychomedical information to my family. I expressly trust her and am grateful to be under the care of such a competent, passionate, powerhouse of a doctor.

Rude, makes you feel guilty, discouraging, will NEVER be back

Dr. Rouse runs a program of guilt and blame. She is negative about recovery. She gave up on my young daughter who immediately got wonderful treatment elsewhere in the state. She is now free of the disease and has been for many years. Dr. Rouse is not knowledgeable about eating disorders.

Dr. Rouse is a horrible dr. She is ill-informed on current ed treatments. She uses guilt, blame and shame. Even medically, she is severely lacking. She told us, and our child, that she would never recover and there was nothing more that could be done. The following day, our child was enrolled in another program. The new doctor found medical issues that needed to be addressed immediately. Our child emerged from the new program healthy and free. She remains so 15 years later.

She is so thinks so perfect and so right that she costs my Granddaughter two years of pain and not getting the right medical care she needed. Sometimes Dr's need to look out side the box and be more of caring to find out what is wrong. We took my Granddaughter to a hospital out of the state and they could not believe what had been done to her.

I definitely would not go back to see her. She is rude and self absorbed. She is never wrong in HER opinion. Very defensive and unable to be sympathetic. Unfortunately she is the administrator at the Charis Center. With the recent influx of new patients she made the administrative decision to have all therapists at the Charis Center who currently see their clients on a weekly basis change to bi-weekly. How effective is that? For example, if you had 6 people who needed antibiotics and had only enough for 3, it certainly would do no good to give all 6 half of the dose! Just my opinion.

It's been several years since we saw Dr. Rouse, but she was extremely rude to both my husband and I,and our daughter. Surely a doctor would know that no one chooses to be anorexic. Sadly, she obviously has not kept up on eating disorder research, and even the therapists in our area don't send their patients there. Their day program has breaks where the girls are not monitored. Any ED clinic that knows anything should know that the girls will purge and exercise when not watched. Sad - we desperately need a good ED clinic in the area.

Her bed side manner tends to be very harsh.

I found Dr Rouse to be rude and self absorbed. she wouldn't listen to what was going on with me and told me I was choosing to be ill.
