Dr. Max G Deshaw

Dr DeShaw is very knowledgeable, compassionate and very down to earth. I am seeing him for Bartonella and sadly my first round of antibiotics didn't go so well. I have many health problems and was afraid he'd give up on me, but quite the opposite. Dr DeShaw told me he will not give up working on helping me to feel better. I feel so confident in his care and so relieved too. I know I have a lot going on and am not ashamed of it, like other ID doctors made me feel. Thank you Dr DeShaw and thank you to his very caring staff. CJK

I am a very complex patient. I suffer from many autoimmune diseases and now Bartonella and Lymes. The first bout of antibiotics made me sick and I thought Dr DeShaw would give up, but he told me he always has ideas. I was so relieved and totally trust him because when I'm with him, he listens and cares. He is also very knowledgeable about my Gastroparesis.

Dr DeShaw is very smart, responsible and kind. Explained my husbands infectious process and provided the goals that were met. Infusion center nurses were great and courteous. Front desk staff helpful and respectful. An all around great experience with the best outcome. I’m most appreciative of the total team.

Office staff is beyond horrendous and unprofessional. We’ve been trying to get in for a year. Finally was able to make an appointment in September for January. The day before they called with a reminder and a different doctor we had never heard of. The office manager claimed us she told us it would be with other doctor in September, but she did not. We have documented emails of her ONLY discussing Deshaw with us She continued to lie snd say she told us while simultaneously saying the other doctor we are scheduled with “doesn’t even do Lyme.” Then why would you allegedly set us up with them in the first place???? We’re in DESPERATE need of help and an ID expert opinion to pit against disability insurance’s ID doctor who told us a CDC positive test was a false positive and entirely disregarded a documented bullseye rash. Waited 3 months thinking Deshaw would be the beginning of ending that fight with insurance. Now we have lost 3 months we could have been working on this problem

After 2 docs missed the Lyme diagnosis, the 3rd advised me to find an infectious disease expert. The 1st prescribed doxycycline for 30 days & pronounced me cured. I wasn't. So I found Max DeShaw by cross-referencing lists of NJ's best docs & distance runners (I'm a marathoner). He judged I still had an active infection & worked with me for almost 9 mos.--with antibiotics courses, other meds & 8 weeks on IV antibiotics--before getting results. At every stage, he was focused, open to my input (data on running performance vs. different drug courses), caring, competent, and undiscouraged by the initially slow progress. I could write a book about how Max DeShaw epitomizes my vision of what a great doctor should be. Yes, appts. are tough. Yes, he's often late (patients like me want more of his time). No, he's not perfect (we tried a lot of things before it finally clicked). But I owe him the quality of life I have today and trust him more than any other doctor I've seen in years.

Dr. DeShaw has been my doctor for 10 years! He is the true definition of what a “Doctor”’should always be! Incredibly brilliant, listens, never rushes you, always compassionate but most important knows his patients and their history and understands the complexities of his specializations. Every doctor should take a page from him.

Dr. Deshaw is treating me for late stage Lyme disease and has been absolutely phenomenal every step of the way. He possesses a vast knowledge of the disease and tailored a treatment specific for my symptoms and needs. Everyone I deal with at the practice has been beyond helpful, friendly, accommodating and exceeded any and all expectations I had. The office manager Johanna, is absolutely amazing =)!! The infusion team has been the absolute best also!!! Couldn't be happier with Dr. Deshaw and his team!!

Dr deshaw was the only one that can find I had Lyme disease and spend time answering all of your questions. He listens to everything you describe to him and is innovated, up to date, and spends time with you.

After being clumsily misdiagnosed by many different doctors, I was recommended to Max Deshaw by Howard Weiss (an amazing doctor in Morristown NJ).Howard Weiss referred me to a genius. After 6.5 years of dealing with neurological issues, phantom, Afib, severe neck pain, fatigue, fevers, weakness, I was put on a picc for 6 months. After that time, I was miraculously, miraculously back. The exhaustion was gone. My kids realized I was different days after the first treatment. Amazing lyme doc

It's not easy to get an appointment, but it's worth it. Dr. Deshaw was the only one to diagnose and make a precise plan for me after seeing many doctors, and going through many tests. He's well versed yet down to earth.

I've never met a doctor in my experience as a patient and an RN who cares so deeply about his patients. He is very educated and keeps up with new research always thinking of what can help his patients get well. He is easy to talk to, takes his time with you and listens to every word. Yes, he may run late to his scheduled appointments but that's because he doesn't rush anyone and that makes him worth the wait for me each time. I believe he helped save my life.

Dr. DeShaw took the time to find out what I had where I was dismissed by many other Doctors. His care and compassion was something that gave me hope. It's been a long road but I am feeling like a normal person again!
