I was injured while serving with the U.S. Army in Iraq in 2003. When I returned from overseas, I began to develop a tic in my left side eyelid. I initially discounted the condition as stress from being in a war zone, but over time it began to spread into my forehead and down into my face and ultimately into the neck. These tics never quit and they were 24/7. I spent eight years being bounced around from one doctor to another and having diagnosis of Bells Palsy among many others. After years of my own research and narrowing my condition down to one of just a couple of possibilities, I contacted the doctor in Pennsylvania that perfected the procedure that is called MicroVascular Decompression surgery that is performed on patients with Trigeminal Neuralgia, a condition very similar to mine. That doctor, due to his age, referred me to Dr. Field, who had been a student of his, and was within my area of the country. I sent my MRI and X-rays to his office and then made an appointment with Dr. Field. My wife and I drove to Winter Haven and met with Dr. Field the next morning. Within 10 minutes of his seeing me in his examination room, Dr. Field diagnosed me of having a condition hemifacial spasms caused by my facial nerve short circuiting against blood vessels to my ear drum and scheduled me for surgery the following month. He solved the riddle of my condition in 10 minutes that other doctors could not solve in over 8 years. This was my last hope for a cure as I was on my last nerve (no pun intended). Dr. Field performed the MVD surgery in 2012 and I have never had a recurrence since as of 2023. If not for Dr. Field, I don't know what would have ultimately happened to me. I only wish it had not taken eight years to find the answer. The man has a great gift from God and I pray he can use that gift to cure many, many more people!

My Dr Field is an excellent doctor. He explain my conditions and the pro and con of my medical surgery. He was explaining all the alternatives. The staff was very nice and friendly helping as much as they can.

Dr Field is a blessing I had trigeminal neuralgia he got rid off the aggravated nerve in my head causing terrible chronic pain for years! He performed decompressive vascular surgery in my brain. No more pain!

Dr Field is a gift from God and is an amazing neurologist who assisted in performing a successful surgery on me along with a ENT Dr. My operation is testimony and proof for anyone scared to undergo a procedure.

Had the Fields office recommended to me by family, they were quick to return calls but the front desk women, Crystal, was one of the rudest people I've ever spoken to on the phone in the medical field; interrupted me, insulted me, and hung up on me mid sentence. Hope the front desk isn't representative of the medical care!

I went to Dr. Field for a hemifacial spasm. My face twitched all the time and I could not go out or even sleep. He did a craniotomy and I am perfect now. I highly recommend him. He helped me so much.

The next month, I underwent the surgery, which involved boring a hole behind my left ear, moving my brain over, and repairing the nerve(s) which caused the uncontrollable tics in a procedure called Microvascular Decompression. It has now been nine years and I am still tic free. It is my belief, to this day, that Dr. Field was a Godsend and blessing who saved my sanity and my livelihood, if not my very life! He is truly a gifted dpctor and surgeon who I am so glad I trusted with my life.

Dr Field was kind, made my son feel comfortable about his surgery, and always explained things to us clearly and thoroughly. I feel lucky to have had him care for my son.

Dr Fields was absolutely amazing if you don't use him you really need your head checked !! I had a shunt placement and I came home and took care of myself and feel 25 years younger and do not forget hardly anything at all now my life is normal THANK YOU !! Dr Fields was everything I expected and much more he is a true rock star !! I have my life back because of him

I had 2 surgeries by this Dr, a few years back . Pretty much like Colleen Smith in below review ,I had problems after both . I knew something was wrong and it took many calls to get someones attention. I Was told after the 2nd surgery..and finally an x-ray it was just muscle . I could look at the x-ray and tell it was More than muscle. Took awhile to find another neuro -surgeon approx. 10 mths....First thing after looking at the very " same x-ray " was...when did your spine collapse ? The new Dr. tried to fix the problems. But this being my 3rd back surgery in less than 4 yrs. it was doubtful. This is why I say , be cautious , in my other review. Which I see is gone. Even with the surgeries , I have horrible pain and still affects my back , legs and feet. I went thru many surgeries for basically nothing. It's good I'm older because my life as I knew it is basically over .So , really think about it. I didn't want to do even 1 star. But it won't post unless you do one. My surgery was almos 4 yrs ago. Having 4 gadaba bones and discs replaced in my neck . I understand that nobody is 100% guaranteed the outcome. Before leaving the hospital I knew something was not correct. Trying to explain to the doctor or nurse what was wrong I was not listened to. My after care was horrible from Dr. Field. Never seen him after surgery. Everything went thru his nurse. I am now disabled and still in terrible pain. Hopefully I was just one out of many that went wrong. Saved my husband LIFE.

Dr Field performed an endoscopic endonasal surgery to remove a golf ball size mass that was pushing on my optic nerves ( making my vision blurry) and pituitary gland. After my initial visit with Dr Field I was relieved and confident that I had found the right Surgeon to remove the mass. Dr Field removed the mass and I was out of the hospital in two days. It has been a month now after surgery and my vision is restored 100%, and I have no pain. Dr Field, his staff, and the hospital were professional, courteous, informative, and a good overall experience. He is more than competent he is good

Amazing doctor great bedside manner a doctor who really cares. And his staff just as amazing a special thanks to teri, brandy, mandy and crystal thank you for being there when we needed you and for caring.

Dr. Melvin Field and Florida Hospital are the best at surgery very helpful and kind hearted staff my brain surgery was 7-1-2010. If i had to do it again i wouldn't change anything.

Wonderful, Dr. Total professional. I had a large brain tumor removed and was very concerned. The Dr is the best of the best. Also, his nurses and staff were great and a big help in after care.

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Field. I suffered from trigeminal neuralgia for years. Continual increases in meds and pain. Finally said enough. Dr. Field removed small benign tumor that was causing pain, double vision, and vertigo. I feel he saved my life. I'm back to eating, talking, golf, etc. Thank you Dr. Field. You looking for a neurosurgeon? See Dr. Field. The very best.

Today I met Dr Field , me being 73 years young I can honestly say he is the best doctor I have met!!!! So caring , very understanding, and explains everything to you, does not make you feel uncomfortable at all. His staff is just as nice and very efficient. I truly recommend seeing him for honest and caring medical needs.

Great experience. Doctor continued to show great care before and after acoustic neuroma/ facial schannoma. Is following up on any other ideas or surgeries that may be needed to finish repairs. Great staff. Highly recommended for any of your needs

I wouldn't recommend any other Neurosurgeon. Dr. Field was thorough and spent a good amount of time talking throug my concerns. He answered all of my questions and came up with a plan that I was very comfortable with.

Words can not express how grateful I am for Dr. Melvin Field. After a series of tests and a MRI, I was diagnosed with a rather large Pituitary Gland Tumor by my Neuro-Ophthalmologist and he referred me to Dr. Field. My consultation with Dr. Field was such a positive experience and he thoroughly explained everything regarding my tumor/surgery. He has the BEST Surgical Team (Dr. Spector is fantastic) and staff! A month later, I am tumor-free and able to resume normal activities! Praise Jesus!

My symptoms were lower back pain with numbness inside left leg from groin to ankle. Dr Field reviewed the MRI and diagnosed third disk herniation. After review of options I chose minimally invasive surgery. Dr Field found a very large vein just underneath the nerve root. Dr Field skillfully removed the vein and carefully determined no further action was necessary. Five weeks after surgery the back pain and numbness have gone away. His analysis and actions were spot on. Great job by Dr Field.

Ok My other review didn't show up. ?? Unfortunately , I can't and won't recommend Dr. Fields . Nice person . But didn't seem to care after my surgeries. I got the impression , He likes doing the surgeries.But wants no problems after .. I've suffered for over a year because of this. But I finally found a True Dr. that cared enough to fix the problem that Fields blew off .

Dr. Field is a very qualified neurosurgeon. He is kind, courteous and down to earth. He tells you like it is and allows you to make your own decisions. He cares for his patients and the quality of care they receive. When I was referred to him by my neurologist I was not aware he was the Chief of Neuro Surgery at Florida Hospital South, or that the Neuro Surgical Unit there was the Top Rated in the state of Florida Dr. Field is a very qualified neurosurgeon. I fractured my neck 10 years ago and luckily Dr. Field was there to treat me. He is the most wonderful person - kind and considerate and compassionate. I am a nurse and nurses don't make good patients. So, I was a difficult one for him from the very beginning. I cannot begin to tell you all the wonderful things he did for me. It has been 10 years now and I'm still doing well. I have my limitations with my neck, but thanks to him and the Lord, I'm still able to work as a nurse. Thanks!

My appointment was at 3:30 pm. I was told he was running late 45 min. I was put in a room and he finally came in at 5 pm. I was not happy because I knew now my time with him would be rushed, and it was. I was glad I do not need surgery but was hoping he would of had more time to inform me of potential issues I might face with my herniated disk.

When I met Dr. Field I had been having Trigeminal Neuralgia for 8 months continuously with medications only controlling it minimally with many side effects from the drugs.I could no longer drive & my balance was impaired. Dr. Field explained the causes & treatments of the disease. He ordered a special Trigeminal MRI, which showed where the problem was and what procedure would be the most aproprate. He was trained by the Dr. who developed the procedure, Dr Jannetta. We have 100% Success.
