Dr. Merlin G. Butler

Horrible bedside manner. Both he and his office are very unprofessional. They never contacted me that they had my results, so I had the lab re-send them and they still didn't contact me. I had to reach out and they said that I didn't have to have the results resent because they received them the last time almost 2 months prior. He came to my appointment completely unprepared (even though they had had them for almost 2 months). He kept telling me that I was wrong about things that I had that were completely unrelated and that I was wrong about my symptoms. Oh and by the way if you meet the diagnostic criteria of an illness that they haven't found the gene that causes said illness and your genetic test comes back with a gene that hasn't been seen before and it matches one/some of the symptoms of the illness that has no known gene yet, you don't have said illness... at least according to him. He is very kind and courteous with the patients, and very knowledgeable.

I paid $2,000 for genetic testing. Made a follow up appointment and was cancelled because my genetic testing didn’t show anything abnormal. Instead of referring me to someone else, giving me any other information, pointing me in literally any other direction- I was ignored after leaving numerous voicemails. How can a medical professional just cancel you and never speak to you again after you hand him $2,000? I was later diagnosed by another MD with the EXACT mutation Dr. Butler was supposedly evaluating me for. Don’t go to him unless you want to waste thousands of dollars and be ignored with no further information or even a follow up call/email/write up. What happened to “do no harm”?

Dr. Butler is one of a kind in the Prader Willi Syndrome field. He finds out everything he can about you child and goes the extra mile to interact and run all test to determine and study what is going on and how to help. After 12 years of going to him we feel blessed that he is right in our home town, and at a wonderful hospital. I feel he takes pride in his work and he is very proud of each child he has the opportunity to work with And help in creating a positive future for all of his kids! I saw Dr. Butler for a genetics issue and he was very helpful! He took time to thoroughly explain everything to make sure I understood. He answered all of my questions. The fact that he was very thorough made me feel confident that I will get the care I need. His staff is also kind and responsive.

Left my wife a voicemail results are negative and said we can't do anything for you. Do visit to discuss other options or anything. Terrible bedside manner.
